Mrs Tiggywinkle Again
My almost 14 year old asked last night if we could watch some mystery movies. I barely watch anything these days and I don’t even know what might be good. I prefer limited sexual content as he is struggling with appropriate talk in school and I don’t want to add to that. Also no gratuitous and super graphic violence, but some is okay. thanks!
Katy
One of my kids loves Hallmark mysteries. No content concerns there at all.
gardenmom5
would he be willing to do some older movies? Lord Peter Whimsey is hysterical while he's solving crimes . . .

Poirot was a favorite here at that age. The shorter ones were less gory (and all are minimally so, we just had a very very limited tolerance for scary stuff). Dh and I enjoy Miss Marple, but Poirot was more popular with the kids.
Katy
Oh, you might try the Hardy Boys books. Don’t get the originals, get the ones that are either updated or published on or after 1968. I think that’s when they got rid of dated offensive language and made an effort to make them as exciting as tv & movies. I don’t remember anything offensive in the ones we did as family read-alouds. The Alex Rider books & movies are pretty good too. Though I think my kids preferred the books. And the Spy Kids series.
saraha
Oh! The Hardy boys and Nancy drew series from the seventies! 70s Parker Stevenson was my girls first crush 😆 Murdoch Mysteries
Emba
I think Colombo is not too bad. My kids have asked to watch Murder She Wrote because their great-grandpa watches it. People often have affairs, I think, but there’s nothing explicit.
Harriet Vane
Psych It's hilarious and ridiculous but also fun to figure out the crimes. Not graphic. Our teens loved it.
Porridge
We just watched an old episode of Sherlock Holmes on YouTube - The Red Headed League. It was fun for my teens.

ScoutTN
The Branagh version of Murder on the Orient Express does have some gory shots that several of us found disturbing. Enola Holmes was fun. We like many of the older PBS/BBC series. New ones are mostly way too gritty. Though we like Miss Scarlett and the Duke.

Oh yeah, the most conservative Christian I know loved Psych. On his recommendation alone it must be tame.
CindyH in NC
Rear Window is a great way to begin Hitchcock. Both of the Enola Holmes movies were fun - as are the books they are based on.
history-fan
Mr. Monk is a tv series that is a fun watch
HomeAgain
Knives Out and Glass Onion are top of our list. Enola Holmes is second. DS has feels uncomfortable watching movies/shows that can be graphic or dive into seedy situations, so Monk, Psych, and a few other are often out unless we know what the episode is about. You may want to pre-screen, but Now You See Me hit a target sweet spot here. Mystery, but a magic thriller as well.
KungFuPanda
You might try Miss Fisher or Death in Paradise. They’re series, not movies but it’s worth a shot. We also liked the Sherlock Holmes with cumberbatch.
mmasc
If he’d like older movies, Vertigo and North by Northwest are good.
