Hilltopmom
80s ladies- On ABC at 8 tonight, Dirty Dancing remake. Hoping it's online tomorrow, cause I'm out tonight. My parents are going to record in on their VCR for me, using my old black n white TV, just in case, lol.
Annie G
I'm bummed that it's airing at the same time as the Survivor finale! We'll dvd Dirty Dancing and watch this weekend. Unless the reviews are as bad as they were for the live Sound of Music, which we ended up deleting without watching after reading how bad it was. The original was cheesy, but I did love Dirty Dancing when it came out.
Garga
I babysat two little girls (aged 8 and 10) all day long during the summer between my sophmore and junior year of high school. We watched (at their request) Dirty Dancing every single day of that summer. I look back and think, "Why were their parents ok with that!" but whatever. I know every line and inflection of that movie. At this point, I'm not sure if I hate the movie or love the movie after watching it 50 times. I hadn't heard about it at all. Is it going to be a live version like The Sound of Music? If so, I'll probably skip it too. I agree that the original was cheesy but fun.

I agree that the original was cheesy but fun. No, not a live version. But there are enough changes that make me willing to wait for viewer reviews before I invest three hours in it. Plus I can fast forward through commercials with a dvd version. Not sure how I feel about it being set in the 70's. Or whether I can accept a Swayze substitute. It might be fun. Or I might spend the whole time yelling at the screen that they're ruining it. g
antsam
"I carried a watermelon." EVERY SINGLE TIME I carry a watermelon, I say this... and wait for someone to get it. Lol! Jodie
Katy
There's not a Hulu page for it yet. :glare:
Hilltopmom
In know it won't be as good as the original.. Just like the remakes of Footloose & Red Dawn, but still fun, I hope. My teen & I like to watch the old then the new back to back to compare :)
itsheresomewhere
Anyone watching this? I am not sure but the sound of music live version might be better. This is just bad.
Word Nerd
All the feedback I've seen so far from people watching it is that it's terrible.
itsheresomewhere
All the feedback I've seen so far from people watching it is that it's terrible. It is. I tuned in after 9 and it is just bad, really bad.

Guest
I'll be honest, I don't get it. I NEVER watch remakes. What if it ruins the original for me?? And, if I like the original, how can it compare??
Scarlett
I was interested in it. And then a commercial for it came on and I saw someone not Patric Swayze say "Nobody Puts Baby In A Corner." And it just looked Wrong. So, I probably won't be watching it. I know right. I didn't even watch it when it was released because it was rated R. But I am a Patric Swayze fan......and it is impossible to see someone else in that role. I did watch though....still watching....,not bad. hopskipjump
My girls & I started it and then pulled out the original DVD and watched it instead. The remake was so, so, so, SOOOOOO bad. The casting department should never be in charge of such decisions again. Baby was laughably wrong. And they cast Sarah Hyland as Baby's older sister? The adorable Sarah Hyland who never ages and looks forever-twelve? It was odd. I barely noticed the guy playing Johnny. There was zero chemistry between Baby and him, so he wasn't worth noting by the time we turned it off. lol Watching the original set things to right. 😊 Edited May 25, 2017 by hopskipjump

If you need to waste time and laugh, google the reviews and comments. Some of those were hysterical.

Some of those were hysterical. YES! The dancing!!! :scared: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! I feel kind of awful for Abigail Breslin, tbh. Some of the memes I've seen (while hilarious) made me cringe on her behalf. On no planet should she have been chosen for such an iconic role as this. Poor girl. :/ I hope she was paid really well, at least.
sassenach
https://www.google.com/amp/people.com/tv/dirty-dancing-remake-twitter-reacts/amp/ These are funny. Also, I love the office.
HSmomof2
I tried to watch it. I tried. I really tried. I'll never get that time back. I tried, too. Just no.
Bluegoat
It is amazing in a way that the original worked. It seems like it shouldn't have, but I think it really did on many levels. Dance movies are hard to do well. I don't know why anyone would think it needs a remake - it isn't like it could go out of date, and it was actually pretty perfect. ktgrok
First Anne of Green Gables, now Dirty Dancing. It is like the entertainment powers that be are trying to ruin my childhood.
ktgrok
Also, there was a showing of Dirty Dancing at a local super posh movie theater a few months ago. The kind with motorized recliners for seats, etc. I went with some girlfriends when I was very pregnant, and it was FANTASTIC! I'd never seen it on the big screen, and it was wonderful. I had my popcorn, my soda, and friends, and my favorite movie :) Oh, and they showed a bunch of behind the scenes making of stuff before hand.

kewb
Didn't watch. I don't watch remakes of things I love. One of my friends was on facebook last night saying how absolutely awful it was. This opened up a thread of comments from other friends bemoaning how awful it was. I didn't understand why they just didn't turn it off. Hilltopmom
I have not watched it yet, but m going to give it a go, if all else, my dd & I can just make fun of it ;) Total aside, in college, a couple friends & I worked some temp childcare gigs at one of those old (way past their prime) Jewish resorts in the Catskills... It was just like Dirty Dancing, but whole sections of the big hotel were closed off to guests due to un use, so that part was more like The Shining, lol... It was an few interesting weekends, for sure.
zoobie
It was so bad that I had to keep watching. SO bad. DH came in for the last 30 minutes and was laughing hysterically. He said it was so bad that it made him want to watch the original. The dancing. The chemistry. Did these people lose bets? It was Little Miss Sunshine goes to adult dance camp.
itsheresomewhere
Someone said if it was tweaked a bit, it would be a Mel brooks movie. MST3K needs to review this version.
