Moxie
DD wakes up if one of the kids uses the upstairs bathroom during her nap. I think a white noise machine might help. Does anyone have a Marpac Dohm? Is it really better then the cheaper electronic machines?
HomeschoolMamaOfTwo
We have two, have used them for years (7) , they still work great, we love them.
pink&bluemommy
We've had a cheap $15 conair for gosh maybe 6 years. Used every day for the kids!
*********
Well, we never got a white noise machine, but we did use white noise a lot for naps. The boys had a clock radio in their room, and I just set the radio on a static station. :D Worked pretty well. Now we just turn on either our fan our air purifier if we want white noise. chiguirre
I'd try the air purifier idea too. Mine sits on my bedside table and I do find it very restful, although I use it to help with my allergies. It's nice to get a 2 in 1 from an appliance.
Amy in NH
We use a humidifier, but an air purifier might work better if you live in a hot/humid climate.
PinkyandtheBrains.
We use an air filter/purifier for white noise and cleaner air to help with allergies.
jen3kids
My dd has a small desk fan on in her room all night. She has always been a light sleeper and it allows her to get a full night's sleep.
delaney
I wouldn't spend much money on something to make noise. Conair alarm clocks come with noise options and a simple $15 fan will work
NotSoObvious
We buy the cheapest small fans available. I think we own 5 of them. We all sleep with one and we take them wherever we go!

Robin M
We have an air purifier in our bedroom. I can't sleep without it on. Otherwise I hear every single noise in the house, plus the ringing in my ears from tinnitus.
jelbe5
I sleep with a small fan running in my room - have for years. If you have a smartphone or iPod Touch there are lite (free) versions of white noise sounds. That is what I use when we travel.
wapiti
We've used this one for years: http://www.amazon.com/DEX-Products-Sound-Sleeper-SS-01/dp/B00008439C/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1365356435&sr=8-17&keywords=baby+white+noise Usually we keep it on "ocean" sounds. It has a one-hour timer (what we use) or can be kept on all the time. One of my ds10s uses one and the other one is in the room with ds4 and dd3. DaffodilDreams
We use small fans for white noise in all of the bedrooms. Upside is they mask other noises. Downside is we can't sleep w/o them now.
Jeannie in NJ
I have used a fan for white noise all my life. When I was in the hospital for 5 days, I took it with me and when we went on a family cruise, everyone made fun of me taking my fan UNTIL the ship was traveling thru fog and the fog horn sounded all night but we never heard it in our room thanks to my fan. LucyStoner
My husband uses a white noise app while studying that will play pretty much any sort of soothing or neutral noise. I will have to ask him what it is.
DawnM
We have Marpac machines. We have tried other white noise machines and even apps, but they don't compare. I love the Marpac machines. I don't particularly like the lowest end that you mentioned because it doesn't have a volume dial on it and sometimes I want it quieter or louder depending on the need. I had a Marpac/Marsona machine I got from my mom. She had used it since 1973 and it finally died in 2008. And I used it nightly.
skeeterbug
Like many others we use a fan. Much of the time it is pointed at the wall, during the summer it is pointed at us. I did not grow up sleeping with one but gradually got used to it since dh sleeps with one. We have them in the kids room too.
blessed3x
This... I had a thread like this about a year ago and the HIVE showed me this machine. I sleep so well now. :hurray:
Orthodox6
Electric fan. For forty years have been unable to sleep without one running, because I am hyper-sensitive to sound.
Moxie
Well, we tried the fan last night. She still woke up several times. Maybe it will help at nap time.
