Trish
I guess I've ordered so much and so often, and searched so widely and so far, that I never imagined Amazon had any titles that would be considered p*orn. Well I was looking for a supplementary book on seed plants (for children) and I came across a book that was subtitled "high definition p*orn) and was about a young wife watering plants, and well, I probably shouldn't mention the title, but it also mentioned teen s*x etc. It was a Kindle edition, and it seemed that it was $3.99 to download, but if you were an Amazon Prime member it was free? I've never encountered anything like this with Amazon, and basically if you had a kid doing this search it seems they could download it on Kindle for free. Has anyone else seen anything like this? Just wanted to warn people it's out there. Egads.  :scared:
Tap
Yes, I have ran across many things over the years. It doesn't really bother me as I expect it to search for every item that Amazon sells that matches my description. It doesn't happen as much if you search by department (unless you are looking for books). Sometimes, it makes me wonder why certain items come up though...the search parameters seem skewed sometimes. Butter
Yes, that stuff is out there. Some people, for whatever reason, enjoy reading that sort of thing. As far as being free for Kindle, that just means it's part of the Kindle Lending Library. With that Prime members get to download up to one book per month for free on their Kindle device. So it doesn't mean your kid could just download it after searching. It's actually kind of a pain in the butt to find and download lending library books on the Kindle and if you've downloaded a lending library book that month you are locked out until the beginning of the next month. Wabi Sabi
It doesn't bother me. If you don't want your kids to download Kindle books just stay logged out of your account and don't let them have the password.
Catwoman
I don't think there is much that Amazon doesn't sell, but I have to admit that the first time I came across something really hardcore, I was quite surprised... because I wasn't shopping for that kind of toy... :tongue_smilie: I check the "top 100 free Kindle books" list on Amazon pretty frequently, and let's just say that some of the titles aren't always exactly kid-friendly. MomatHWTK
I was exposed to a VERY offensive book title when looking for coloring books for the children one year. I sent an e-mail expressing concern about the fact that the item came up in a search for coloring books (it was a coloring book of images that most would consider best kept unseen). I thought that despite being a coloring book it should not come up in a general search. The title itself was so offensive that it wasn't as if you could avoid being aware of it, even if you didn't click through. I got a canned response back basically implying that not forcing parents looking for Christmas presents for their toddlers to view nasty words would be "censorship." I have boycotted Amazon ever since. It is one thing if you want to sell everything to everyone. It's quite another when you can't even design your search engine so that only people who want to view adult material are exposed to it.
thefragile7393
Doesn't bother me...book stores sell all sorts of stuff I don't like...but they are for everyone, not just me. I just ignore icky stuff and if my kids are old enough to do search engines then I sit with them while they search.

We don't do amazon at all anymore - we never really did (stopped buying from them pre-homeschool).
regentrude
I never encountered anything , even though I use amazon a lot - but of course I know stuff like that exists, and if it exists, amazon will most likely have it. Not a problem for me.
Mynyel
The only way it would bother me is if the search term is benign and it comes up on the first page or it ended up in the line of results on the product page for a benign product. Otherwise.. meh. I don't usually search much on Amazon persae, I usually know exactly what I want :D
Mommy22alyns
I come across things farily frequently in looking for free Kindle books. They're either Christian or rather explicit.

Parrothead
I've come across stuff like that. Not often. I'm more bothered by the soft porn (photo of man on top of woman from the waist up, etc.) titles/images right by the bathroom door at our local BAM. Farrar
Yes, but I can't say that it bothers me in the least. :iagree: I do think that as a reputable business, there are some things Amazon could try to do (like not have inappropriate material come up in searches that are clearly intended to be children's materials or allowing merchants to price gauge at the holidays) to be more responsible and it would make me like and trust them more... but whatever. I'm not bothered by the material's existence or that people want to buy it... and while I loathe the Pearls, I'll include their works in that statement too. KirstenH
Amazon sells EVERYTHING. They really ought to offer a "safe search" filter like Google does, though.

DianeW88
Yes, but I can't say that it bothers me in the least. :iagree: It's Amazon. They sell everything...to every conceivable target market that exists. It doesn't bother me at all.
Trish
I guess we as a society have become relatively indifferent to The Bad. Myself included, but I'm still occasionally shocked. All part of the Pornification of our culture.
Excelsior! Academy
I guess I am in the minority. It bothers me. I've never come across anything like this on Amazon, but if I did it would really bother me. I am not naive, I know the stuff is out there, but if I was searching for coloring books and something like that came up, yeah I would be irritated. If something pornographic or even illegal (yes Amazon has sold at least one book that was describing a certain illegal activity, just do a search) I would be pretty angry to say the least. http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/pedophilia-book-amazon-sparks-outrage/t/story?id=12111987
