Laura in MI
Curious about others rules regarding texting during "school" hours. Hopefully I can get the poll to work :001_smile:
Tohru
I said no, although ds doesn't even have his own phone, nor does he want one, nor would we let him even if he did want one. And for me, no texting during school. It's too distracting. You know, disconnect to connect :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vI8pIUmRn_E Edited January 10, 2012 by jadedone80 correct grammar, add link
Myeightkiddies
My children are allowed; however, keep in mind that the only people texting them during the day is their dad or others in the family who had to leave the house for some reason. elegantlion
No, but the only people he would text are either working or in school themselves. He is allowed to get on the computer on lunch break, but that does not interrupt someone who should probably be doing something else besides texting. Lolly
They are allowed to text anytime as long as it isn't disruptive. Disruptive would be while I am working with them. If they are working on their own, I don't mind.
Audrey
Ds is not allowed to have a cell phone, so texting is not in his realm of possibility.
TheAutumnOak
I had to vote "other" because my kids don't have phones and my phone doesn't text...It just makes calls ;)...DH's phone can text, but they don't use it...
Jennifer in MI
I voted yes, but it is with restrictions. They may not have their phones with them when doing schoolwork. We tried that for a while and school was taking WAY too long! Took the phones away and suddenly it got done much faster. Hmmmmm . . . Anyway, the rule is that they can have the phones for 30 minutes during lunch and then again after they complete their schoolwork for the day. regentrude
DD is allowed to text for specific information, for example to arrange a ride out to the barn. During school time, she is not supposed to text for idle chatting - but then, her best friend attends ps and her other friends are all in college, so nobody has time to text much anyway; it is not a problem. higginszoo
They're not allowed to text during their school day (shorter than standard), and they're not allowed to text friends who are in school while they're in school.

Pretty in Pink
My ds got a phone for Christmas. I told him no texting during school. He didn't listen. He's now grounded from the phone. :tongue_smilie:
Tutor
I voted that they're allowed, however it really isn't an issue. All four kids share one phone, and three of them do not have friends who text. The one who does text occasionally only texts her friends in the evenings because the only friends who text are in public school and they aren't allowed to text in school. :001_smile: Most of her friends prefer Facebook to texting. angela in ohio
Yes, my 15 yo can text when she wants. But she is extremely responsible, gets all her work done, and doesn't text unless it is necessary (making arrangements for events, discussing robotics team plans, etc.) If that wasn't the case, I would have restrictions. ChiMomNP
My son is allowed, but he is only texting with his dad who lives back East.
Sukale
She is allowed, as long as it doesn't become a problem. I hate to text so sometimes I will have her send a text to her dad or my sister for me during the day.
Elizabeth in WA
My teens are allowed, but ds16 doesn't text anyway. Ds14 has friends in school who can only text during lunch or between classes which keeps it from becoming an issue when public school is in session. On the rare occasions we have school and his friends don't it has become a problem, but those occasions are, at least, rare.
MamaT
If they text, it is to their dad or oldest brother for some specific reason. Everyone else they know is either in school or doing schoolwork at home. My 18yo will sometimes text me a question from the basement because he doesn't want to walk upstairs. :001_smile: if it became a problem, I would take their phones during school. Splinter
My son doesn't text during his school day. He gets his work done in 2-3 hours in the morning and doesn't take any breaks, even to text.
SweetMissMagnolia
not during schoolwork but during the day yes-but he's only allowed to text to like 3 people...
missmoe
My kids can text during lunchtime. They share a phone though, so texting is usually purposeful and not just chatting.
Based on Faith Academy
My kids don't have cell phones. I don't see the need for them to have one until they spend more time away from either their dad or myself. So I voted no..
jhschool
He is only allowed to text his Grandfather. And only if he just got a text from Grandfather. He can text his dad whenever he wants. But not friends or anyone like that. (His friends either have no cellphones or they don't text--it is not an issue).
