What do you use to wash your hardwood floor?

My new wood floor says to only use their cleaning products. The pamphlet states that I should not use oil based cleaners or detergent based.

 

What do you use?

I used to just use plain water. Then I switched to water and vinegar. That worked well for us. Now, I use the new steam mop my dh bought me. :D It's easy enough to use that even dh will help and do some of the mopping... the best part of it all. ;)

Just water, in a steam mop. I heard vinegar was a no no.

My steam cleaner says not to use on hardwood floor so I didn't think I could :confused:

Water and a rag. About once every five years. Except in the kitchen. Where it is about once a year.

Just a bit of water every few months. You really shouldn't have to wash them that often-and defiantly not steam. That will eventually take the finish right off.

 

I dust mop/vacuum with parquet head almost every day. Even though we don't wash it, our socks are still white. :-)

 

 

Anything with oil-including Murphy's Oil Soap will eventually darken the floors. And you should never use that on your antiques, either.

Everything except Bona leaves streaks on my dark-stained oak floors. :glare: But Bona is great.

Bona. I bought a big jug of it at Costco for an amazing price and it will last me for years. I sweep every day (just about every meal!), spot clean with Bona as needed, and probably go over the whole floor with Bona and a microfiber mop once a month or so.

I use the hardwood floor cleaner or vinegar and water. The floor cleaner works well and doesn't smell like vinegar;).

We had oak floors installed a few years ago. I use water and vinegar in a Swiffer Wet Jet. I'll have to look for Bona :)

I usually just use hot water and a microfiber mop. If needed, I'll use a homemade all purpose cleaner that has a little bit of dish soap and alcohol in it.

I have a large dog who is in and out of the house so my dark wood floors get filthy. I use a regular mop and a half bucket of water with about a 1/4 cup of Mr. Clean Febreze Multi Surface Cleaner (the Lavender scent is wonderful). To really shine them up I'll use a flat mop with Bruce Hardwood Floor Cleaner Spray.

Water in a steam cleaner. Never had an issue with it losing the shine!

 

Occasionally, when I want it REALLY clean, I'll get down on hands and knees and spray vinegar and water and scrub.

I mostly sweep and vacuum regularly. In the kitchen area, I use water as needed. Every so often, do a deeper clean with Bona.

Thanks everyone! I've never heard of Bona but I am now on a quest to find some :)

 

With one big dog and two little boys, my floors are already looking ready for a good cleaning. I sweep or vacuum every day or so, but there are little footprints etc. that don't come off :)
