My 6th grader does:

Math

Spelling

Writing

grammar

History (CLE)

Science (CLE)

Reading (CLE)

Bible

Not as much as the other, but my son struggles with spelling and writing. Those are are two main subjects that we are focusing on this year.

When my dd is in 6th grade she will be doing same as above but adding in The Latin Road and her History would be OM or MFW.

Ds is doing:

History (including lots of writing, WTM style)

Literature (including both history-oriented reading and a mix of genres, a little writing and some lessons on literary terms and concepts)

Math

Science

Latin

Greek

Biblical literacy

Logic

Geography (this is just an hour a week, plus map work in history)

Art (very basic)

Memory

We don't do spelling as a formal subject any more, though he does study some vocabulary as part of his literature program and I'll correct any misspellings in his writing. He's a natural speller and it just isn't necessary for him. His Latin grammar study is fairly advanced by now, and we also cover some grammar (though still at a more basic level) in Greek, and grammar comes up regularly in writing. We no longer cover it as a separate subject, though he does occasionally do Editor in Chief exercises, mostly as some very light test prep.

Outside of school he takes ballet three days a week, does Boy Scouts, participates in Math Olympiad, and goes to a very informal little children's choir thing once a week.

Daily (six days a week):

Italian language & literature (native language, using native materials from Italy)

Latin language & literature (a daily chunk of translation/analysis; we've covered grammar though we brush up on it from time to time)

Mathematics (approx. 9th grade level)

Biology/Chemistry (merged together, following an Italian curriculum) - maybe not every single out of six days, but most days she does them because that's where her interests lie

2 or 3 times a week:

English (language & literature, but not so focused on literature)

Greek (work on the text, mostly)

Physics/Geography (merged together because she's studying topics which cover both)

History

Something in Hebrew related to her studies (simply for the sake of developing higher fluency in Hebrew + working on vocabulary)

Once a week:

Judaics + parsha (in Hebrew)

Music

There are other things we do informally - such as Art - but not as a school subject.

this was the year we decided to ramp up writing ability, so our program is heavily weighted towards the language arts. we also added in more history. previously, we've had a heavy math/science focus, and that seems to be carrying on as well. we looked at where dd wanted to be entering high school, and then added things in this year to make that possible.

language arts (teach your children to read well, individual reading each day)

writing (writeathome.com, writing for a weekly newsletter)

spelling (AVKO)

math (singapore)

science (chemistry, natural history)

history (history at our house)

french (using rosetta + muzzy)

music (violin, choir)

dance (5 classes worth + nutcracker)

art (using dick blick's art videos as instruction, art history portion of history at our house)

phys ed. (currently soccer)

ann
