mazakaal
I thought I had made up my mind. Then I changed my mind. Now I don't know what to think. So what has your 8th grader done this year, or what will he do next year? Â ETA: Thanks for all the responses so far. A question... for those of you who will be doing American history, what will you be using for that? Or are you putting it all together on your own? What is a good spine for that age other than Hakim? Thanks. Edited June 5, 2009 by MeganP

Mama Lynx
Here's our 8th grade plan:  Latin Prep 2/3  Perhaps Greek - maybe Elementary Greek again, or perhaps we'll try Athenaze  Dolciana algebra: He got through about half the algebra I book this year, so we'll continue with that next year.  Classical Writing Diogenes Chreia  TOG Y3 Units 3&4, Y4 Units 1&2 (history and geography, and parts of the literature)  Literature pulled from WTM, LCC, TOG  Classical Studies - The Odyssey, The Aeneid  Boy Scouts  Piano  possibly First Lego League  Soccer   We plan to spend a great deal of time on history, as he loves modern history. We may also be part of a co-op, and so that may modify these plans.  Whoops, science - I'm not sure. Possibly Conceptual Physics. (Hewitt) Possibly a science overview using Robert Hazen's "Science Matters," his Teaching Company lecture, and "The Day the Universe Changed." Brindee
I can't really plan, because it will most likely drastically change by the times she's in 8th grade and actually starting. But, here's what I've sketched out as a possible 8th grade year for dd (she'll be in 7th next year): Â Math: LoF Advanced Algebra, maybe some CLE math to supplement? teacalm
Here's what I have in planning stage:  Henle Latin/Lingua - continue  ALEKS/ A-Plus Notes for Beginning Algebra (working currently) then deciding whether to Chalkdust Algebra I or Jacobs Alg. or LOF Beginning Algebra  SWI B (with sisters) and continue with Home2Teach  TOG3 with K12 The Human Odyssey vol.3.  Smarr Intro. to Lit. or Quine's Starting Points - I'm torn on this one. I love both, really love both. (currently going through LLTLOTR)  RS4K Chemistry II(coop), finishing Rainbow Science with Runkle's Geography  Intro./Intermediate Logic by Nance (with DVDs)  VFCR/Rod Staff Spelling - continue   There's so many I want to cover. There's art history, Put That In Writing, Signs and Seasons. But for now, I'll continue to stick with what's getting done in a regular basis, and continue to dream that I will get to my "wish" subjects.  Scary time for me. Beth in Central TX
What is Intro/Intermediate Logic? Who is the author or publisher? Â My plan was to use Traditional Logic I & II by Cothran (Memoria Press) in 8th & 9th grades, but after looking through the material, I thought it would be better to do both books in one year in 9th grade. However, my oldest son really wants to continue Logic next year, so I opted to include the Intro/Intermediate Logic by Nance (Canon Press). For some reason, I already have the older editions with tests, but sans DVD. I think I bought them when I was collecting all of the recommended material from the 1st edition of TWTM. After 6 years, I feel more comfortable with homeschooling, and I can branch out on my own without following SWB's suggestions to the "T". I've come a long way... Â Just FYI...my son has already done both Bluedorn books (Thinking Toolbox & Fallacy Detective), as well as, The Art of Argument and all of the Mindbender CDs. Beth in IN
Do you have a curriculum you do this with, or is it your own thing? Â Hi Brindee, Â I do picture studies as described here from Simply Charlotte Mason. Unfortunately, I have tried different "art" curriculum and I am a failure at them, so this has been a good substitution. I would like my kids to learn more mechanics of art but right now it does not get done. So this helps alleviate my guilt from not following through with actually teaching "art". Sometimes we have classes in town and we do those. But I really like the pictures studies. If I can't teach my kids to draw or paint better, I am hoping to instill an appreciation for art.
