  1. Just remembered ... you can watch clips of Jiminy Glick on youtube. Hilarious! Screaming laughter hilarious. If you have Roku, there is a Youtube channel you can use for free to watch youtube on your TV. By the way, I mentioned all these shows because I think we have similar taste. Oh, 30 Rock is on Amazon Prime and Hulu, if I recall correctly.
  2. Kath and Kim on Netflix Portlandia (I want to say Netflix) Black Books is on Hulu This Country on Hulu Derry Girls on Netflix
  3. I am feeling very much like "you can get used to anything" (I only mean this in regards to being home with dh and dd 24/7 and no alone time ever), and "this too shall pass" and I hope we're all alive and well when it does. Plus I have bought cloth napkins and never again paper napkins, and we're back to using the Brita to filter our tap water rather than buying bottle water. So I guess I'm being more environmentally friendly since there's no paper in the store anyway. (I am feeling a little concerned on the tp situation.)
  4. Staggered deadlines. School resumed online this week, and I am not exaggerating that my dd has about 50 things due by Sunday night, the 29th. Also, one platform would be good. Pick one. They already use Blackboard and Connect. This weekend, my dd had to download and install Zoom, WebEx (required IT assistance to do that), Jump, and make a Facebook account to join a private group.
  5. Okay, Bath and Body Works makes those little hand sanitizers in fun flavors. They were out last week, but have since totally restocked at our local Navy Exchange (who carries Bath and Body Works stuff among many other things). That's my secret stash. (Actually, I only needed one to put in my purse since I gave dd my purse bottle.)
  6. My IT brother recommended a Dell XPS 13 for my dd to start college with this year. She has been very happy with it.
  7. I think we may start skipping church. We go to a fairly large church and there are A LOT of elderly people. I suspect that soon enough, the church itself is going to cancel services for a bit. No known cases in town yet, but a nurse is being tested and a few people who traveled internationally are self-monitoring at home. My dd's university *just* extended spring break by a week and I suspect will move to online classes after that.
  8. I did find that for much of MUS for high school, I needed to supplement lessons. My degree is in math so that wasn't a problem, but it won't be a good fit for everyone.
  9. I bought a bunch of stuff from Lakeshore Learning when we did high school geometry. Here are a few: https://www.lakeshorelearning.com/products/math/shapes-geometry/build-learn-geometric-shapes-kit/p/GG458 https://www.lakeshorelearning.com/products/math/math-manipulatives/giant-magnetic-geometric-shapes/p/EE924 https://www.lakeshorelearning.com/products/math/shapes-geometry/build-learn-volume-kit/p/TT567 https://www.lakeshorelearning.com/products/math/shapes-geometry/angles-hands-on-measurement-center/p/TT491 https://www.lakeshorelearning.com/products/math/shapes-geometry/build-learn-area-perimeter-kit/p/TT566
  10. We belong to the YWCA. It's technically geared for seniors, but anybody can join. It's not loud. They have lots of classes, which I like, although they are mainly week day mornings so wouldn't work for a person with an 8 to 5 job. They also have a weight room and a cardio room (like with treadmills and stair steppers and all those different things). Those are open til 7pm or so. They have a heated pool, too and various water-based exercise classes. Everybody is super nice and no judging at all. Not sure of the exact free weight situation.
  11. Worked well for us. You may want to get through PreCal before taking the SATs. (My dd did her last SAT Fall of senior year.)
  12. Read your other posts from SN board. Sounds like he maybe needs to live at home and have more support (emotional, whatever) to continue moving forward. Nothing wrong with that. I think Community College would fit the bill nicely. Cross the transfer bridge when you're closer to it.
  13. Yes, your fight is with Kohls, not some random person who was in your house. I will almost guarantee you that either they screwed up or someone stole the number in Kohls at some time prior. I'll bet if you all had checked the balance as soon as you got the card, it would have been $0. Your mom can fight this with them if she wants. You go up the chain and don't take no for an answer.
  14. I don't ask about stuff because I don't want to pry. That's literally what phrase goes in my head as I don't ask: "I don't want to pry." Probably different scenario than you are dealing with though.
  15. I'm not revising anything. I am speaking about the male soloists in JLo's and Shakira's show. They wore long clothes and overcoats. Yes, they did.
  16. Here's what I would do... I would think, "oh it should be fine," and then I would crockpot it all day, and then I would say, "you know what? I'm not comfortable with this," and I would throw it out. I know because I've done that before. So while I think it's still okay at the moment, if I really was planning on eating it tonight and not throwing it out, I would pop that baby in the oven and roast it done. Then refrigerate it until dinner and nuke it.
  17. Yes! I couldn't help but notice the male singers were fully dressed in shirts, long pants and overcoats. As talented and powerful as JLo and Shakira are, I wish that they would show little girls that you don't have to look like you're naked to showcase your talent.
  18. Salvation Army thrift store -- got three barstools for $56, and didn't even have to recover them. Just took off the fabric, stain sticked it in places, threw it in the wash, and it was great. Staple-gunned it back into place. Also Salvation Army thrift store -- bought a beautiful queen headboard for $20 for dd's room and spray painted it white. Lovely.
  19. Bumping this thread because I just now bought two of the recommended blazers for dd from J Crew. Thanks, Hive! Also, someone mentioned waterproofing their Birdies (also bought)... what did they use for that?
  20. My dh can make most electronic devices work just by touching them. When the tv is being difficult, I ask him to touch the remote control, and voila everything works again. I am absolutely convinced he has some sort of magical emf power or frequency that instantly resonates with tech. My dd recognizes all faces and remembers them forever. This has caused some hurt feelings until she realized that not everyone has that superpower and does not remember her from meeting her that one time many years ago. I find things. It's what I do. If I don't find it, it can't be found.
  21. My dd is second semester freshman year. This semester the learning curve is shorter and she is staying very nicely caught up and even ahead of her work. She has friends in all of her classes, and she has time this semester to attend a club that she is really enjoying. So everything is good so far.
  22. Vertical blinds were the answer for us. They don't hold the dust like horizontal blinds. You can get them cut to fit any size window. Air purifiers, especially in the bedroom. Really great air filters for the a/c/heater. Like Allergan brand expensive ones.
