Thanks for sharing. As much as I don't fully rely on tests, I also like testing so I at least know where my kids are. I have been surprised sometimes with the results.

Like most of the pp has said, maybe you need to plan it out for the next couple of years then you Dh will know what you like and hopefully take over. It is hard sometimes to lower our expecting but that might be what you need to do for now

I use SOTW Nd love it. I supplement for my dd1 as we are doing the second go around but even dd2 is learning a lot from it. They both love doing the activities in it. I tend to finish early and then do about 9 months of American history. They have done state history at coop so I haven't covered it at home

Some of my friends kids have done this with their veterinarians and also one boy on our local yahoo group is shadowing their dentist. He has been dong it for 4 hrs a week since he was 12.

We are done with our days but still have music performance and science project to be all done. We will start our summer lite program in 2 weeks.

If you eat beans you can make a bean casserole with them. You cook the beans till tender, then add peeled plantains, seasoning, oil and tomatoes with some pepper and onion and cook further for about 15 mins until the plantains are cooked through, you can freeze them and use as sides with rice.

For subjects like math, we just keep going and it is more of a do the next thing. Science and history are my main ones that I need to schedule out so I can get the supplies ready. My kids like doing the activities in SOTW so I make sure that I have most of the supplies in the summer ready to go. For literature, I kind of plan out the books we want to read and then make sure we have them ready. I sometimes do vocabulary words so I need to work ahead and cull those from the books before we get to the book but I don't have to do everyone one in the summer.

How do you know for certainty what your child's calling is ? Unless you have a child that has shown outstanding gift in something, sometimes you don't know. So it is a parents responsibility to prepare their child for what ever their calling might be. I have a degree in computer systems engineering but have never worked a day as a systems engineer. My degree has however served me well in being able to teach my kids at home. If nothing else, it is saving us money that we might be using to pay science and math teachers right now. A knowledge of algebra and biology might not help her in her career but will help her in being a more informed citizen of her society and might even come in handy when she has kids of her own and wants to educate them
