  1. Definitely get RideMax. It is a scheduled plan to get on the rides you like and it is very affordable. I know, I know, a schedule at Disneyland seems awful, but trust me. We did it for some of the days we were there and didn't for some of the days. We were wishing we had it for the unscheduled days. You can always NOT follow it. On the days we had it, we didn't wait for more than 5-15 minutes on ANY ride and this was during Christmas. http://www.ridemax.com/features.php
  2. Sounds like things are going well. I also use MFW and have lots of littles. I actually have 9, their ages are 13, 11, 9, 7, 6, 4, 3, 2, and 3 weeks. One way that I've learned to manage littles' time is through rotating activities. I do a combination of blanket time, workboxes, and tot trays. Here's an example http://1plus1plus1equals1.blogspot.com/2009/02/behind-scenes-tot-trays.html If I am having a particularly rough day I will put all of my youngers on a blanket or at the table with one restaurant style tray each. I give them each an activity like playdough or Lauri puzzles. Then I set the timer for 10 to 15 minutes. They must play with that activity until the timer goes off. I then switch their activities and reset the timer. This gives me time to work with the olders and keeps them occupied for a period of time. To answer specific questions. Yes, rotate. Although I've never done Adventures, I have done MFW. Last year we did a week's worth of science one day, history the next, etc. I agree with the pp who said get in the three R's. The rest is just gravy. You certainly do need to fulfull your state's requirements, but some of those things, like health, should be pretty easy to fulfill. I can't imagine you would need a full on text book for that in second grade. If you do or if you already have one, then do it. If I had a requirement like that I probably would do an extra term like previously mentioned or in a unit study.
  3. How long per day would it take to do Henle I in 1 year? Are there any schedules out there for this? Would I be crazy to try it with my dds next year?
  4. Okay, after reading your signature line I am feeling really silly for giving you advice. My oldest is only 13. What are your opinions?
  5. I read the on your own to my daughters and make them answer orally because I like to know their comprehension along the way. I also have them write out the answers to the study guide because I think it is a good practice for them. The one test they failed I had them write the paragraph study guide. They have passed every test since then, and not complained about the work. It is my opinion that the study guide, looking up, and writing the answers are a good skill for my daughters to learn. You might pose this question on the high school board. You would probably get more answers.
  6. Here's a link to the drink in question. http://www.usatoday.com/yourlife/parenting-family/teen-ya/2010-11-10-alcoholic-energy-drinks_N.htm
  7. I haven't read any of the responses, so I don't know if I am repeating. I am from Oklahoma and I think the beverage in question is marketed to children in a round about way and 1 can contains the same amount of alcohol as a 6 pack of beer and enough caffine to equal 2 cups of coffee. There have been many instances of minors under drinking age being hospitalized because of them. I am not arguing one way or the other, just stating the facts as I know them.
  8. I really thought that nothing in printed material suprised me anymore. I. was. wrong.
  9. This is exactly why I switched from VP to MFW. I love VP and purchased all of the cards and songs, but MFW fit the bill for us much better. That said we learned A LOT the year we did Ancient Egypt!
  10. Well, probably not the answer you are looking for, but neither. Since I found the WTM and started hs I have pretty much stuck with all the same curriculum from the beginning, except for spelling. SWO didn't work for my daughter. The proof reading sections were brutal for her. They showed you incorrectly written words and sentences. She NEEDS to see it written correctly NOT incorrectly. I love Rod and Staff grammar and even considered their math, but didn't care for their spelling. The spaces and lines were too close together at the level we purchased (4th I think). I think it may have been updated since then, though. We went with Spelling Power and couldn't be happier. It's a one time purchase and you can use it for all of your spelling age dc.
  11. :grouphug: I'm due this month. My Dr. told me I was starting to dilate and then went on vacation. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone.
  12. I generally don't. I do have these grand plans of having some type of holiday themed center piece for the table each month and maybe a wreath for the door, but honestly it doesn't happen. The extent of my decorations.... In October, fabric covered toilet paper pumpkins on top of rafia and fake fall leaves (much cuter than it sounds, I promise!); in November, a Thanksgiving pilgrim and indian set that someone gave me last year; in December, a set of wooden hand carved Twelve Days of Christmas onaments and a 3 foot Christmas tree that we mailed back from doing Christmas in Disney one year. Yep, that's about it. We do have several traditions, though.
  13. I'll bet you'll make it where he won't forget next time.
  14. I voted Rod and Staff. I love FLL, but the 3rd grade version was not available when I started hs so I purchased R&S. Since it's hardback, thorough, and I already have it, that's what I use.
  15. Christmas Eve we have egg nog and cookies and read The Night Before Christmas. Christmas Day you get your stocking upon waking and before breakfast. Presents wait until after breakfast and everyone is gathered around. I've always wanted to do the matchy-matchy Christmas pajamas that everyone opens Christmas Eve. It would make for really cute Christmas Day photos! Shouldn't this thread be in general?
  16. I haven't read all of the threads, so forgive me if I'm repeating. According to what I've read (we're not there yet) some children struggle with Algebra due to not having fractions, decimals, and fractions down. You might check that he gets all of these concepts well before proceeding. I ditto what the pp poster said about Saxon 8/7. I would then move on to Pre-Algebra from there if he is still just not ready.
  17. That would only leave 8 hours of wake time. How could they possibly complete a 6 hourish school work load a day, eat, have free time, chores, etc.? Nope, mine get 8 and on a good day 10.
  18. I have never been a vegan, but I have heard this information before. My blood type is O, and I know that if I don't eat meat occasionally, specifically red meat, I don't feel well. I don't know if it is related to my blood type or just the way I eat, though.
  19. Would you like an unqualified answer? My dd is in 8th, but will be doing MFW in 9th next year. From what I hear it is 3 hours a day for history, English, and Bible. So I would say 1 hour a day per history and English is about right.
  20. :iagree: Those are some of the reasons we haven't joined any of those things. Frustrating, isn't it?
