  1. Slipper socks! Year round. I have to put on house shoes or my wool lined Ug boots in our school room until we lay down wood. Right now it is cement. Not the best on you feet!
  2. WTMindy, you can just set a ziploc bag inside a mug or jar, open, and fold down the sides over the lip of the mug. It works perfectly!
  3. People still buy kitchen trash bags?:p We have a thing that attaches to my cabinet door. Basically you just cram the bags inside, and pull one out at a time. I just line a small can under the sink. It does need to be dumped a few times a day, but it works great. I've seen people take a dish towel and sew up the long end leaving a tube. Then attach a cloth handle or ribbon to the top. You can put the handle over a nail inside a pantry or cabinet door. Cram the bags in and pull out one at a time from the bottom. If you are not domestically inclined (hee, hee) then you can probably find these at a crafter's mall.
  4. We do Rod and Staff daily. We try to do composition exercises on a regular basis. I do require some writing every day. Some days it is dictation and copywork, and their history assignments. We use Veritas Press and they include writing in some of their assignments. Other times we do book reports, reports, or free writing. My oldest is working on a book. The older two like to write lyrics and sing them. I require all of their writing at a separate time from grammar mainly to stay on track for the book. I've noticed that Rod and Staff does include some outlining, book reports, and note taking assignments. I think those count, as well.
  5. I just reread your post and realized you didn't ask for math, sorry!:o For spelling you could try Phonetic Zoo. I think it's kinda pricey, but I've heard people rave over it. I know you can order it from Veritas Press and probaby(?) Rainbow Resource.
  6. History is easy! Just get STOW on CDs. For math you could use DIVE CDs for Saxon curriculum. I am not sure about English unless you do a program like Abeka, but I know that you can get Latin ones from Memoria Press. HTH!
  7. 1 doz eggs 1 container cottage cheese 1 package shredded cheddar cheese Crack eggs into a bowl. Fluff with a fork. Add other ingrediants and mix well. Pour into a well greased crockpot. Put on low 5-8 hours. We only eat 1/2. So I put the other half into english muffins and have them for breakfast the next day! Easy!
  8. 1 container cool whip 1 can crushed pineapple, drained 1 small package strawberry or cherry jello 1 container cottage cheese Mix all together and refridgerate until set. You can do this the day before, it is actually better this way! Yummy!
  9. You can always buy the STOW CDs to listen in the car or during quiet times. Then just fold in the activity guide when you have time. This would be really simple for a 1st grader!
  10. How hard is it to read along with your dc? Is it something that needs to be done ahead to stay in the loop?
  11. We used to have a church group that got together once a month and just cooked for the freezer. I still make many of those recipes!
  12. We keep our thermostat set to 68ish. It will vary between 65 and 69. If it were up to me we would keep it a toasty 72-75. But since I don't pay the bill I take hot baths, lay under blankets, and sip hot coffee.
  13. We use chorepacks from Titus2.com. They are great. My 4yo has picture cards and can get up, make her bed, dress herself, brush her teeth, get me for hair, feed the dog, and take out the trash (her choice), with little help from me. We do have a read your Bible one, but she just listens for that one. It is amazing how much time it helps in the morning. Yes, I have to remind ocassionally, "Are you doing your chorepack?" But I think this would be true with any chore system! She is just 4! I do have each child have specific chores that are "theirs." I feel it gives them time to master them and sure helps with my memory! The 4yo always feeds the dog, the 8yo always sweeps the bathroom floor, etc. The jobs that are a little more involved like rinsing dishes are done by more than one child at different times of days. I've timed their chorepacks and they take about 1/2 hour in the morning and even less at night. I can give a run down of our chores if that helps. Our dc are 4, 6, 8, and 11.
