  1. I can honestly say I haven't experienced "mean girl" drama since high school. I never understand when grown women complain of this -- I think some people are just jerks and that includes men and women.
  2. I've read that niacinamide helps reduce pore size. I use The Ordinary's version.
  3. We have to replace a part of our living room floor due to a sagging/water damaged subfloor. (This is part of an ongoing saga; we've already done the kitchen and the master bath.) We figure we'll replace the LR carpet since its old and stained and we have to pull it up anyway to fix the subfloor. But once we do that, I'm wondering if I should have the bedroom carpets replaced as well. (We have a very small, 1-level home with same carpet throughout the LR and BRs.) The thing is, I can't bear the thought of the work it'll require. Each bedroom has a full-wall bookshelf (anchored to wall), full of books, and tons of stuff in each room. (My kids and DH are pack rats.) We have no garage, so where does it all go?? Do we do one room at a time and just shift it all from from to room? Get a POD/storage thing and put everything outside and do it all in one huge disruption? Leave the bedrooms as they are (they're not *that* bad...but the carpet has wrinkled a bit, plus would that be an eyesore? To have different carpets, one new and some old adjacent?) Have you replaced carpet in an occupied home? What was your strategy? Was it super terrible?
  4. Handsome young man. Why is it boys always seem to have the loveliest hair? 😂
  5. I generally do satin for woodwork and eggshell for walls -- even with kids. (But I'm also known to tell my family to "stop touching the wall!" so there is that...)
  6. My 13 yr old has some limits for her cell phone: No phone in the bedroom . (When she's home, it's generally on an end table). She's aware that I am allowed to look through her texts/discord whenever, with no warning. (I haven't yet but I can.) She's not to give her phone # out to anyone she doesn't know fairly well. Never open any links someone sends you. No google searching without permission. Other than that, I don't regulate screen time. If I think she's been chatting (texting) for too long, I'll drop a none-to-subtle hint to wrap it up.
  7. Yes. A good pediatric dentist is worth their weight in gold. My girls see one because I was terrified of the dentist as a child (...and adult). And -- as someone with genetically bad teeth and a mouthful of work (and no dental insurance -- yikes!) -- hugs to your DD. Teeth probs suck.
  8. If the bead board backing is navy, I'd go ahead and make the entire space the same. Then it'll look like a single built in piece of furniture. And instead of new (mismatched to the entry way) flooring, I'd just have navy wood along the bottom, to make it look built in. So like the photo below, but instead of the flooring running up under, the cubby material/color as the "floor" of those shelves/cubbies.(Unless you're worried about wet boots...then vinyl plank of some sort, not laminate unless it's water resistant.)
  9. We have a similar recipe. My kids call it The Pink Stuff. The differences: I cut the chicken into bite-sized chunks, use 1 can of corn and 1 can beans (drained), and I add a jar of mushrooms (plus the aforementioned salsa and cream cheese)! (The mushrooms are great -- they soak up sooo much flavor.) We like ours over egg noodles.
  10. Interesting thread. Born and raised teetotaler here and just never developed the taste for it. I also just sub in broth sometimes for alcohol in recipes. Going to save some of these suggestions in case I feel like expanding my cooking repertoire.
  11. Some of our favorite food spots at Disney were out of the parks (at resorts). Ohana (at the Polynesian) was super yummy and fun. Like...soooo much food, seriously. Sanaa (AKL) was wonderful and the view is amazing, especially if you get a window table. Yay giraffes!
  12. Yes. This is worded so nicely, lol. I left this aspect out of my above reply because I struggled to phrase it. (I guess "colloquially known as a "wife beater" would have sufficed.) Also the stereotype of the "Cousin Eddie" type (from National Lampoon Christmas Vacation). But like I said, my grandfather wore them and he was neither... 😉
  13. I'm assuming singlet is what we call a tank top in the US? I believe those are not as common now -- maybe in old men? (My grandfather wore those under his work shirts.) By undershirt, I think most of us are referring to a thin, usually white, t-shirt.
  14. It's a terrible situation, but I think they should move. The community shouldn't have to change to fit this one family's new needs. And I agree that it could become a slippery slope.
  15. And while I just said I prefer the walnut, I'm wondering: would it look too "tiger strip" to have a whole kitchen with that much distinct grain?
  16. Yeah, I'm kinda with this. Of the two samples, I prefer the walnut though (the other color looks a bit muddied, at least in the photo). I like the look of the cup pulls (a little vintage, farm-house looking) but they aren't my favorite to use. I don't like the other pulls at all. (I'm not anti-brass; I remodeled my kitchen last year and used "aged brass" knobs/pulls.)
  17. My DH wears undershirts with tshirts, too. He says it's because he tucks in the undershirt but leaves the outer loose. Also, tees are so thin these days -- undershirts are kind of like spanx-lite for men, lol. (Only in the camouflaging of flaws, not compression...)
  18. DH always wears an undershirt under a button down shirt. He's in his early 40s, if that matters. So does my dad (always has, and we live in a part of the country with hot humid summers).
  19. We didn't. Both of my girls were pretty young for the event...but still well prepared so it wasn't a big deal. Maybe we went and got donuts or something, I can't remember. I got them the Clue app and taught them how to use it.
  20. Goodness. I'm a coffee drinker but those sound like High Maintenance Coffee Drinkers, lol. Also, I would never expect someone to have coffee on hand just to suit me. Yikes.
