  1. I order as needed, it's part of the reward of finishing a book. 'Oh, look how close you are to the end! I better order the next one for you!' Then they are excited when a package arrives in the mail just for them. :) I also found the opposite in pacing. My 6yo first grader does two pages per day, usually 3-4 days a week. He is working at just the right level, learning his phonics, and that's the right amount for him. When my oldest was completing the later books and it was just reinforcement rather than learning phonics, he was doing four pages per day. He also had the huge jump in reading ability (as described by another poster above).
  2. Oh, I sound like I'm complaining. I don't mean to. You adjust. It's just one of those funny things. The way the toilets flush, though, is brilliant. Two buttons- a half flush or full flush. And a power-house of water that flushes it all in one powerful go. No plungers. No swirl-swirl-swirl-swirl. :D
  3. Exactly!!!! My toilet is through the laundry, and I can wash my hands there, but the kids can't reach. We tried a stool, but even then their little hands can't turn the tap on. So for us it's a long, long walk to the bathroom to wash hands. With many, many things for little hands to touch on the way.
  4. But see, the toilets here don't have the sink. Just the toilet, in a room by itself. In older houses it might be miles away from the rest of the bathroom. In newer houses it's usually right next door.
  5. In America the toilet is nearly always in the same room as the bath so it is just all referred to as the bathroom. No finding the toilet in a room by itself on the other side of the house. :) When we were looking at rental houses here I always gave my kids the job of finding the toilet in whatever house we were looking at. Sometimes they were in strange places. The first (so far only) time I went to a footy game in Melbourne I remember noticing that the signs all said 'toilets'. In America the signs would say 'restrooms'. I don't know that it would be considered rude, just a bit...crude, maybe?
  6. I used to buy it at a Mexican market as a treat for my husband. They laughed at me for pronouncing it M-eye-lo, spanish speakers say it Meelo. :)
  7. I was glad to see this thread pop up again, I just saw that the new one is due out in April (in Australia, anyway...not sure about US). http://educationreformation.net/content/science-ancient-world-available-april-2014 There's even a picture of the cover! :)
  8. I'm guessing you don't mean the hair band... :D
  9. I've been wondering about these as well. Are the tunes well-known songs? Nursery songs or kids songs? Or completely new tunes? I couldn't get the samples on their site to work. I have the cards and we memorise using hand motions, I'm just not sure if I want to add the music.
  10. I'm going to guess it has something to so with the site redesign. I've just purchased some new things and the download links for the new products look different than I remember for past purchases. :)
  11. If you do it, have it ready in three separate files so there is no room for error. :) You can use a program like pdf creator to combine pdf's into one file.
  12. This. It's not about willpower. :grouphug:
  13. You can track it using camelcamelcamel and get an email alert... http://camelcamelcamel.com/Snap-Circuits-SC-750R-Student-Training/product/B000IXMP6Q I chose to go for it at $119. According to their price tracking it has gone lower than that, but not for several months. It depends how long you are willing to wait. ;)
  14. I just ordered this recently but it hasn't arrived yet. I went with this kit thinking it had all the books, I didn't see that optional part in the description. I've had this on my wishlist for some time so I don't remember the details now, but I had searched the forums and there was enough info in various threads to make me choose this one. Hopefully someone will chime in, but in the meantime try searching the forums. :). BTW, that's a good price for this kit!
  15. Wow! I love this idea! Really, really love this! I have several things we never get to and I feel guilty about it. I'm definitely going to do some variation of this. Such a simple thing that seems totally obvious now that I've read your idea. See? Trendy already! :D
  16. A hard level that has taken many tries...it would be nice if that were somehow acknowledged. Instead of 'Wonderful! You have completed the level!' How about...'Wonderful! That only took you 43 tries! You're awesome!' And then when you pass the very next level in just one try...'See! We knew you could do it! You rock!' :D
  17. Mensa for Kids? It's a good starting place, anyway. Links to pdf's are at the bottom. http://www.mensaforkids.org/content/school_readeraward.cfm
  18. From Amazon? I have no idea if they are nicely formatted. :) http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?rh=n%3A133140011%2Ck%3AFamous+five&keywords=Famous+five&ie=UTF8
  19. For more hands-on activities try Ancient Egyptians and Their Neighbors, there are other books that are similar...Classical Kids, Old Testament Days. I supplement with other books where I can, but I don't worry about having something for every chapter.
  20. So happy to hear this is on Currclick now! :hurray: For me that means I don't have to order from overseas. Plus I can print them out for each of my kids rather than having to re-purchase. I'd definitely be purchasing the pdf's! When I tried the intermediate pages with my oldest last year at 8yo it was a struggle for him to do it independently, which meant that it was too hard for me to do with him at the same time as the beginner with my (then) 5yo. We were doing both sides, it probably would have been better to do one side per day. My 5yo would end up bored while waiting for me to help the 8yo. We ended up putting it aside and are happily using Grapevine. I've thought about trying BSGFAA again, and thanks to the pdf option I'm more likely to.
  21. I just ordered one of these a few days ago, it hasn't arrived yet. I got the one with the pink stripes. For under $10 I'm not worried if I don't end up loving it. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Hybrid-Colorful-Apple-iPad-2-3-4-PU-Leather-Wallet-Flip-Pouch-Stand-Case-Cover-/400570832253?pt=AU_TabletAccessories&hash=item5d43e1d57d&_uhb=1
