  1. We are doing Truth in the Tinsel also. I am extremely proud of myself for doing it, I've wanted to do it in the past but felt too overwhelmed by the holidays. I didn't think I'd be able to handle it this year with a baby but when I had a look at it again and realised I had nearly everything we'd need I decided to go for it. Sometimes we skip days and do two the next day, but we're doing it and the kids are enjoying it. With three kids all making ornaments everyday our tree is going to be very full! I also got a gingerbread house kit this year. I've always wanted to do one with the kids, last year I looked up gingerbread recipes but didn't get any further than that. This year I decided if it's ever going to happen we need a pre-made kit! I'm looking forward to doing it this week.
  2. This sounds brilliant to use with my 6yo! It drives me crazy when he guesses, then I become less patient with him. He is totally motivated by chocolate, I'm going to try this! B)
  3. Sounds like this baby just needs to be held right now. I hope for your sake it's a phase. Can you borrow an Ergo from someone? It's the most comfortable carrier I've tried. There's someone on the boards that had dozens of foster babies and has a tried-and-true method for getting them to sleep. Hopefully she'll post her method for you. It included making the room very dark. :grouphug:
  4. UO: I have the best baby ever. Seriously. He's fabulous. You may think your baby is the best, but you're wrong. Mine is. Best baby ever. (I just wanted to post in the gigantic thread!) :D
  5. I was going to say exactly this! No way would I build a house that I didn't love the floor plan. For me, that means a dedicated schoolroom and storage for homeschool materials. Definitely main floor and part of the main living area, and large enough that I don't have to wonder if it will be big enough. ;)
  6. Paula's Archives...looks like it's the first link. :) ETA: link... http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/SOTWmenu.htm
  7. Here's a thread discussing Christmas in warmer climates... http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/495605-a-question-for-our-friends-down-under/ :D One of the weird things (to me) is going to look at Christmas lights...it's not dark until nine or so, makes for a very late evening. The kids sometimes fall asleep while we're out, so we put them in their pj's before we go.
  8. Their new website looks so much nicer! I've got GSWL, but I've been looking at this for awhile also.
  9. Art projects. Unit studies. Building/designing like Junk Drawer Robotics or Mini Weapons of Mass Destruction. What subjects do you never get to? I'd be tempted to work some of those in- like working on a composer lapbook for part of time.
  10. There's a 2-hr overview dvd for $10. I'd start there and see what you think about their program. :) ETA: Link... http://iew.com/shop/products/structure-and-style-overview-dvd
  11. New activity guide, separate from the book? I'm looking at their site and don't see it, can you link? Do you mean the new version has the cd-rom? And what's on it? The cd-rom is just a copy of the various notebooking pages in the text, making it easy to print rather than photocopy from the book. I hope that helps, not sure I'm answering the question you asked. :D
  12. I've tried both and much, much, much prefer OneNote. I found it waaaay easier to use, but then I'm used to Office so it was much more intuitive for me. I use it on a pc and on my iPad. (Software was already on my pc, free app on my iPad. I wouldn't pay a subscription fee.) I click to make it sync if I want to see something immediately. Not sure how long it takes otherwise as I don't need it to do that very often.
  13. I have the Green Apple one also!!! We recently got a blender to match. ;)
  14. I had this problem on my iPad...the For Fun and Samples tabs at the top wrapped around to form a second row. When I would click History and then try to click Story of the World, it would keep taking me either to the For Fun page or the Samples. Eventually I got it to work, but it took many tries. The tabs that wrap around are interfering with the sub-menus. Just FYI for the powers that be.
  15. 40% off downloads? Yikes, my wallet is going to need a band-aid.
  16. I thought she was searching for a thread titled 'Where's Toto?' :D Is there a like button for siggys? Cute. :)
  17. Grapevine/Stick Figuring. Straight Bible stories. Has suggested memory verses. 10-15 minutes per day, unless you choose to do more. I use the traceables for my youngers. Now would be a perfect time of year to try it by doing their Birth of Jesus study. You'd only need the Multilevel book- teacher and student. We're doing the individual lessons first, then we'll cover the timeline as review closer to Christmas. Hunter, Grapevine sells printed materials also. ETA: I see now that I misunderstood your question!
  18. We enjoy it here. I agree, the occasional mild language and innuendo which goes right over my kids' heads. ;) ETA: This is also how I'd describe Mythbusters, another one we enjoy.
  19. Yes, I'm sure you can, it would be a backup copy. You should. I remember when I bought the MM set they encouraged it so you'd have a backup. I save things to Dropbox for backup, and we backup our whole PC every once in awhile. I just bought something where I only get one download and it warned me to be sure to back it up because I couldn't download it again!
  20. Hugs to you, Bean. So much advice/opinions here. You are in a tough place right now, but at some point you will be through it and be giving your own advice to others who are struggling. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: Hoping your next session will be better.
