Good morning! This cute book is free today. My kids and my music students enjoy these. http://www.amazon.com/Classical-Composers-Musical-Masters-Palaces-ebook/dp/B00M3PB41O/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1429099681&sr=8-2&keywords=desiree+scarambone And this one is new - it's much bigger and full of colorful pictures. I think I'll use it as a history supplement. http://www.amazon.com/Sticks-Stones-Hammers-Bows-Antiquity-ebook/dp/B00W42OLBG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429099681&sr=8-1&keywords=desiree+scarambone

Cognitive disabilities often include a difficulty with memorization. For those of you who have children with cognitive disabilities do you change your expectations? Or do you just work on mastery longer? My son struggles with memory issues, and while we can work through a book/level, that doesn't mean he remembers everything by the time we reach the end. Should I go back to the beginning? How much mastery/memory is enough?

Once, some time ago, I posted about a really FUN and helpful book for learning classical composers, their eras and some of their famous compositions. The book covers (best of all?) how to construct memory palaces to apply to any other kind of learning. The ebook is on sale today and thought I would share again. http://www.amazon.com/Classical-Composers-Musical-Masters-Palaces-ebook/dp/B00M3PB41O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408972141&sr=8-1&keywords=classical+composers

I know that kids learn a lot through song. But I find songs that I learned to be annoying and I hate recalling information through song. For instance a Bible verse to music is from Jeremiah, "The heart is deceitful above ALL THINGS!!! Who can knO W IIIIT!!!" Do you enjoy the Veritas songs? Are they helpful?

Especially as they relate to learning & retaining math concepts & skills. I've read how people choose a spiral curriculum otherwise their dc forget what they previously learned. So then I read how others choose a mastery program to then discover later that their dc had forgotten previously learned material. I remembering calling the contact number for Winston Grammar, seeking more info about the program. The lady(author?) I spoke with at length, shared how she felt that following the lesson format as described, provided the best results, since dc "Give their brains the chance t

Okay, so I have had Andrew Campbell's 'Living Memory' for AT LEAST a year and just now read the introduntion where he recommends having a binder to store/organize memory work. Sounds lovely in theory; have any of you actually DONE this?! Does it work?! I do really like the idea of it and want to put one together to try, but thought I'd get some Hive Mind feedback/encouragement first. : ) If you DO have a memory binder, would you please share any thoughts/tips/tricks that you have with this 'Memory Binder Novice'? And, if you have noticed any drawbacks or have a better way to organize memory wo

I'm wondering, what exactly should we memorize for math? I lean toward memorizing just the multiplication fact up to 10, can anyone give me a good reason why we need to go to 12 or 15? And what other facts/rules are important to be memorized BEFORE algebra?

We usually try to memorize a few Bible passages over the year, along with our stuff for history and LA. Last year the boys memorized Psalm 23 and The Lord's Prayer. Any ideas? Favorites? Etc?

One of the main fears of aging America is memory loss or loss of cognitive functioning. Let’s face it, any person who has seen The Notebook has probably developed a paralyzing fear of the day they may not even be able to remember their own spouse. But you should not worry, according to the Harvard Medical School, because “Most of the fleeting memory issues that we experience with age mirror normal changes in the structure and function of the brain. These adjustments can slow certain cognitive processes, making it a little bit tougher to learn new things quickly or screen out distractions t

Our DS (10, in 4th grade) is superbright, but diagnosed ADD inattentive and also with sensory and some auditory processing issues (listens but only may internalize part of auditory instructions that are more detailed). He was doing well in school but the loudness/pace/commotion of school was not a good fit for him and beginning to be a problem. Thank you all for the info about the Linguisystems sale. Can anyone tell me more about each of these, and/or about which might be most useful for us? I have heard of the EF Workbooks ....are they one of these? We are looking for somethin

We are fairly new to the WTM way of doing things. I am ready to start ds on memory work and think the recommendation for the Egyptian pharaohs is fitting for him except I don't have a list of them. I know the WTM says they are listed in the Kingsfisher History Encyclopedia, but the new one is due out in August and I'd rather wait for it since we're only in first grade. Is there another source for good lists for memory work in the early years?

Hi all, I am interested in a brief measure for attention that is well-validated. The working memory portion of the WISC-IV sounds like a good option -- any ideas or comments about what might be better or anything to look out for? Does anyone know how long it takes approximately to administer just the working memory portion of the WISC-IV? Thank you in advance for your help! -Mel

I want to give memory work a "home" in our daily routine...and I want to hear how/when everyone does it. Is it all done at once? Do you do seperate memory work for each subject? Is it mostly independant (and for what ages)? Is it 3x5 cards or a binder.....or something different altogether? Do you use a book like Living Memory? If so, sell me on why it should go on my wishlist.:D

Since I saw the thread on it being too christian, I wanted to find out what families are doing to make sure it's biblical enough? I'll be starting it in June with my 1st grade son. Thanks
