  1. My older two read aloud to me every day until late last summer. They were at a 4th/5th grade reading level. I picked up a McGuffey reader and they read to me once a week during the school year. They do silent reading daily and read to their sister too.
  2. Oldest: "I don't remember. I don't even go to school." Mic drop... Middle: "I will be in second grade this fall"
  3. Last year my girls were first and second grade. They loved LEGO robotics and gym class. They really liked their American Girl class. Teacher read a chapter aloud and then they did some activity. They sewed mini pillows, made oatmeal, strung popcorn, gardening, and made a personal newspaper. They also had a party day with the food Molly had at her birthday.
  4. I got Beast. Which is good because I just spent all my money on it yesterday!
  5. I've never had a land line! I have ripped out the phone lines in both of my houses while redoing the insides. I suppose the down side would be if I destroy/lose my phone I have to go get another one. Landlines don't get lost much. I bet they're less likely to get thrown in the washing machine too.
  6. My girls write in regular notebooks. The spacing in the workbooks didn't work for us.
  7. I write WWE on the days I want to do writing. M- wwe T- copy work W- wwe Th- copy work F- letter We did a lesson in one week.
  8. If $$ isn't a big deal I would get each child their own copy. As it is we use separate plain note books or work verbally. It would be easier to each use their own though. My kids do enjoy working verbally through the questions.
  9. I plan on using both this year. My 8yo is doing MM4 right now and will be starting BA3. My 7yo is finishing MM3 and starting BA3. We do math year round so it's no rush to finish during the school year. My oldest usually needs more practice than her sister. I'm thinking she will really like BA. She loves comics and word problems. My plan is four days of Beast and 2 of MM. Probably hand picking what problems they do in MM to complement BA.
  10. Artist here! I would keep some paper and pens, markers, or crayons around. Maybe watercolor or oil pastels if you can. Art for Kids hub is a fun website he could use if he wants to follow drawing directions. It has a really nice guy and his kids drawing so you see both the adult's and the child's art work. It's nice for kids to see that it doesn't have to be perfect!
  11. Not worried about it. I am worried sometimes when I drive 5 hours to my parents vacation home. Lots of accidents due to deer and people. Our local MJR theatre costs 5$ if you go before noon. On Tuesdays in the summer they give free popcorns of any size to everyone. It's a pretty good deal.
  12. For all those questions all three of my girls have the same answer to only one. Naps? Lol, no naps here except for me!
  13. If asked what FLL is I would say It's a gentle intro to grammar.
  14. I'd do New York. I'm a museum person. I also love musicals/plays and have never seen one on Broadway. We were in California this past June and we are just not sun and surf people. I'd like to go over seas but didn't realize 4,000$ would be enough.
  15. The copy work is very minimal. The easiest thing for me was to have my girls do their copy work in a regular notebook. I write out the sentence and they copy below it. If it was a lot of writing I can see how using a computer could make it easier. But writing one or two sentences takes only a minute.
  16. I think you should have turned the letter in by now. I don't even understand what kind of council you need? What insight could they possibly give you? What is holding you back? I get your past work experience and have had similar. But even if people were awful they were very obviously wrong. Telling is right.
  17. I think the construction of this sounds lots of fun. My kids enjoy making things and using the hammer or drill is pretty exciting. I don't think this will get much use as a manipulative. If you say what she is working on I bet people could some up with more ideas. I really recommend getting some c-rods. They really are amazing.
  18. We use both! I do one week WWE next week CAP. My girls really liked CAP fable.
  19. I think that is hot. I am in SE michigan. I think it will be 90 in my area. I plan on staying inside and getting some cleaning done in the air conditioner.
  20. My kids like funny. I rank Ramona very highly in my house. Top 10 for younger kids.
  21. All three of my girls use AAS. Right now oldest is finishing 4, middle is in 3, and youngest is in book 1. We do not use the word cards. I have words/sounds the girls need more practice with written in a spelling book.
  22. The air conditioner outside my window. My youngest humming in the bathroom.
  23. There is a quick play version of Catan that is fun. I got it at Target by the other quick dice games.
  24. Would teaching the parents be an option? If you both have a good/fast internet connection FaceTime would get you interaction. Which I would pair with a white board. Is he in school? No local library tutoring?
