How have your dietary cravings/habits changed over the years?
solascriptura replied to J-rap's topic in The Chat Board
I definitely love more bitter things than I used to. I grew up eating a lot of processed foods, but the thought of eating a ding dong or grocery store cupcake makes me cringe. -
How many clothing articles do you think make up a work wardrobe?
solascriptura replied to Ginevra's topic in The Chat Board
I'm all about the capsule wardrobe. If I worked in an office setting, I'd get 5 tops, 5 bottoms and a few jackets and cardigans. They'd all be interchangeable and would go with 2 pairs of shoes. On the other hand, why is that guy complaining about the employee's wardrobe unless she is not being hygienic?- 133 replies

That is horrible and so scary for your sister. I'm sorry.

I said both, but here is my thinking on it. My family and I spend a lot A LOT of time in our kitchen. I have wanderlust and will take great efforts to travel, but when I'm home, I'm home. I spend 80 percent of my waking hours in our kitchen. That said, kitchens can vary a lot in price. If you are fine with the layout consider getting just cabinets and counters. And if appliances can be reused, a bundle can be saved there. There is no need to get everything at once.

I would try to do both. You could scale back on the vacation to two weeks (still very nice) and get creative on how to save a little money on the reno.

Realistically this would never work. Most people cannot or will not save thousands of dollars each year in a bank account for the purpose of paying federal taxes at the end of each year. Way too many people live paycheck to paycheck for this to ever work.

Because of the rumblings on this site about the new tax laws, I decided to go early to my CPA. He said that there were a lot of angry clients so far. lol. His advice was to change our withholdings to "Married plus 2" since we have 4 kids still at home.

I've been using the Happy Light on Amazon. I paid 40 dollars and it does help. I use it for about 30 minutes a day.

My blueberry muffins were too moist. Why?
solascriptura replied to Teaching3bears's topic in The Chat Board
I make a lot of quick breads too. Off the bat, I can tell that there is too much milk. I understand why you probably picked that recipe. Is it because it's low sugar? That's one reason why the muffins were bland. I know that it defeats the purpose of a healthy recipe, but for good blueberry muffins you will need a recipe with more sugar. As you probably already know, sugar is a flavor enhancer. Lemon zest will also help immensely. -
Fitness blender? I just looked on there and saw a lot of workouts.

not losing weight but clothes fit better?
solascriptura replied to HollyDay's topic in The Chat Board
It sounds like you're doing great! Keep eating well and exercising. I would also focus on weight training. One week is not going to set back all the gains. Just keep looking forward. -
I have a goose-necked (high arch) faucet and love it. It also has a sleek design with no grooves that get gross with kitchen gunk. My laundry room has one too but it's horrible. It has the goose-neck but the arch is too narrow so the water only comes out in one corner of the sink. Does that make sense? Since laundry rooms don't usually have faucets like that, I suspect that previous owner had that one in the kitchen, realized the poor design and switched it out.

I've noticed patterns in neatness with all of my children. Some are naturally neater than others. We live a relatively minimalistic lifestyle so that helps tremendously. Also, our rooms are only for sleeping so messes don't happen in the bedrooms.

Dr Hive: 24hrs of hives of unknown origin?
solascriptura replied to Noreen Claire's topic in The Chat Board
I'm super healthy, but I did have something similar to what you described this past fall. I was taking Microbiology and developed unexplainable hives. The bacteria that I dealt with caused me to be super paranoid about all sorts of diseases. lol. After eliminating all of the possibilities, I decided that it was viral. Yes, I self-diagnosed, but I realized that a doctor would probably come to the same conclusion. The hives lasted for over a month and it was absolutely miserable. -
Help me find a jacket like this! Where or where could it be?
solascriptura replied to sheryl's topic in The Chat Board
Did you look on Amazon? I see very similar jackets on there. I have the Old Navy one linked above and love it. It doesn't have a hood though. -
Taxes are looking super high - why?
solascriptura replied to Ann.without.an.e's topic in The Chat Board
I'm nervous now. I didn't give our taxes a second thought, but this thread compelled me to call my CPA just now for an early appointment. I usually wait until April to go. -
I am so sorry for you and your daughter! That sounds terrible.

I'm so sorry. I will pray for all of you.

Hmm... I haven't read any of the replies. I had a friend that did this and I never called him out on it even though it bothered me. I that still believed that it was kind of like a bad habit, like I shake my leg or tapping my fingers on the table top. Even if your son does it harmlessly, not everyone will take it well. I would ask him to consider breaking that habit. A lot of women will not take it well and may misunderstand him.

Risk replacing toilet ourselves, or call in a plumber?
solascriptura replied to Tanaqui's topic in The Chat Board
I've replaced six toilets mostly by myself and I'm a small woman. It's totally doable as long as the flange is intact; a toilet replacement is very simple. There is a green spongy rubber ring that I highly recommend instead of the wax ring. I would never pay a plumber to do a toilet. -
Another bathroom remodeling question
solascriptura replied to Teresa in MO's topic in The Chat Board
I vote for frameless. I hate the frame on my shower door. It's impossible to clean the crevices. -
Another bathroom remodeling question
solascriptura replied to Teresa in MO's topic in The Chat Board
I've used these kinds of showers but in much warmer climates. Do you find it too cold in the winter? -
short sleeved tunic length tops for 8 yr old DD?
solascriptura replied to ktgrok's topic in The Chat Board
Lands End has them. -
Can you look into cancelling the order? I would look on other websites. IKEA is no longer the only inexpensive furniture place.
