  1. 2 scholarship ones left (school-related, not outside) I feel your pain.
  2. Dear FIL, Thanks for getting my older two exactly what they had asked for on their short lists. But really, why did you ignore younger dd in favor of what you thought she might like? And a magazine subscription for her birthday without asking us first? Seventeen years of this behavior is just one of the reasons why she does not want to spend time with you.
  3. :grouphug: We're thinking of and praying for you and Nathaniel.
  4. Ds (graduated college May 2015) changed to a computer science major late freshman year. He works in Silicon Valley for a Very Big Name Company. College senior dd chose her first major (English) when she was a high school junior. She added French as a double major during freshman year. Current high school senior decided last year to major in International Relations with an Arabic focus, though her path has been obvious since for two years. She's one of those hyper-focused people.
  5. We have 2 of 3 home. Ds lives on the opposite coast and wasn't able to come home (he was here for Thanksgiving though; his girlfriend is going to visit him tomorrow). We Skyped with him during present opening w my sisters and their families. It made him (and me) sad :(
  6. Chag sameach! Let the boy rest a few more days. Is he feverish? Does he look like he's actively engaging in activities? I had mono freshman year if college right before finals week (mid-May?). I wasn't cleared to do anything until right after July 4.
  7. Older dd timed it--21 minutes from walking through the door until the "so what are you doing after graduation?" question.
  8. Oh my :grouphug: We will continue to keep you in thought and prayer all day.
  9. Clickers have been used in some of my kids' classes to quickly check comprehension. If a large number of students don't get what is being asked, the prof can go over the concept again.
  10. hlffkj, prayers and all good thoughts coming to you from across town :grouphug:
  11. College senior dd had a 4.0 for fall semester :) I can't believe she'll graduate in May.
  12. We receive prime orders in one or two days. I only order items with prime shipping when we get within a week of a gift-giving event. This year we've had very good success with both Amazon and other venders, large and small. We used credit card points for a gift card for my niece, one of those use 40 dollars of points, get a 60 dollar gc. That's still not here after almost 2 weeks. She's 19 so will understand a delay.
  13. So xahm, is your MIL not bringing any food? My cookies would be frosted if I was expected to do all the food prep and cooking on such short notice!
  14. I'm making Chex mix today for dairy-allergic youngest. Older dd doesn't really like treats. And then I'm going to make soy-glazed almonds, a family-of-origin treat, for the first time in 10 years since older dd was diagnosed with a soy allergy. I'll have all the windows open so the house will air completely before she's home tomorrow!
  15. Everyone in this house is thinking of you and your sweet little one.
  16. Oh Creekland I'm sorry today's news wasn't the best :grouphug: My mother's ovarian cancer spread to her liver. G5052, I am always impressed by your strength.
  17. We have pelican crossings in our town! I'll have to start calling them that
  18. This is my question as well. The local high school counts gym, health, and various career electives. The Catholic schools count theology as well. D has a minimum of 5 each year (English, social sciences/history, math, foreign language, lab science). The rest of her classes are all purely academic---more math, science, social science, and a boatload of foreign languages. Colleges look at the academic courses. A state university can mandate coursework, academic or otherwise, for entering freshmen. If D applied to somewhere that wanted gym or arts on her transcript, then I would have added it (she danced classical ballet, we visited museums and studied art within our history classes--it would have been easy to write course descriptions based on things we did already).
  19. Oh Kris, I could not let that post pass me by. So much love and peace and hope to you and your daughter :grouphug: And Blsdmama :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
