  1. An Introduction to Grand Canyon Geology L. Greer Price ISBN 9780938216681 It was in a set w a book on prehistory.
  2. Check the NP bookstores for park-specific geology books. The best one we purchased came from Grand Canyon.
  3. Oh, hush! That list was combined from multiple sources. Plus, it's missing the last few years of good books and journalism. Add to it "City of Thorns: Nine Lives in the World's Largest Refugee Camp" by Ben Rawlence Stunning and shocking
  4. Only one school asked for years, but D had to use their own form online (which is such a pain). We just assigned coursework to the year during which she did the majority of the work. One course was done over 3 years. I chose a year with fewer credits for that course.
  5. D's transcript is only by subject. I didn't even bother using 'year' columns.
  6. Misleading how? "Our school is one of the top producers of XYZ" without hard numbers? Various ways: D asked. Dept heads volunteered the info or it is clearly on the dept websites. We have been given info put out by the office that coordinates fellowships. I follow all the finalist schools on twitter so I see announcements and read press releases.
  7. Coursework was the most important factor for current high school senior. She wants to major in International Relations but will enter college at the junior-level in Arabic. She needs schools where she will not run out of Arabic. We started with the list of Arabic Language Flagship schools and a list from Foreign Policy about best schools for IR. I searched 112 schools for their Arabic offerings (seriously, I have been using the same legal pad for all my notes). Second, finances. We eliminated schools we could not afford after running Net Price Calculators and after researching availability and amounts of merit scholarships. Our EFC puts us at full-pay for all but the most generous of schools (Harvard, Yale---not good fits wrt Arabic). Third, seeing if/how the puzzle pieces of IR and Arabic and multiple study abroad periods necessary for a Language Flagship fit together. Fourth, investigating the outcomes of graduates. What language level do they reach: superior (D's goal) or Advanced High or lower? Where are they hired? Where do they go to grad school? Do graduates win competitive scholarships and fellowships like Fullbright, CLS, Boren, Schwarzman, and Truman?
  8. My sister's surgery was 11 or 12 years ago. During the year after the surgery she lost 50.% of her weight, about 150 pounds. Since that time she has regained only 20-25 pounds---and most was at year 3-5 when our parents died.
  9. Thanks kewb from saving me the pain of typing a coherent reply with a sinus headache :)
  10. Our son used PackRat. It was less expensive than PODS and ABF for his size (1 br apartment, multiple bikes) and they were more flexible with his timing needs.
  11. DawnM, I just asked my son which service he used when he moved cross-country. I'll let you know when he replies.
  12. Congratulations to your dd, Jilly! Jacobs is an amazing school. I hope more money comes her way. My D is also an SGIS direct admit. If she attends IU, she'll be an International Studies major (diplomacy, security, and governance concentration) and will attempt both the Arabic and Chinese Language Flagship programs.
  13. I'm worried about fruit crops, too. So many orchards in this area lost their cherry and peach crops last spring after warm weather was temporarily pushed aside by temps in the teens.
  14. Second child, older dd, will also graduate in May. She's decided to skip the whole-university commencement in the stadium in favor of just attending her major's convocation :)
  15. Oh wow---awesome news
  16. Oh my goodness, how nice to hear from you again:)
  17. Must admit, I cried a bit in happiness :) Congratulations and all the best to your son!
  18. Gym cardio today: 15 min elliptical on cardio setting, 30 min on bike (hill sprints) My schedule during poor weather: MWF lifting plus 10-15 min HIIT TTh 30-45 min moderate-intensity cardio
  19. Cardio indoors: bike 45 min, hill sprints
