  1. Yes, she is taking advantage of you for free baby-sitting. I'd speak up, or be anywhere, but in there.
  2. I hope you find relief. Occasionally, I take baby aspirin along with upping my walks and general vitamins. A friend of mine take glucosamine (sp?) and claims it works wonders. Be sure your shoes are good.
  3. I'm a softy too, but my school motto became the following... It doesn't have to be fun, it just has to be done:D. Do the lessons and be free...:glare: Oh yes, I forgot...No screen between 9 & 3...Do the lessons and you'll be free. My ds, was a tough nut, and loves his video games. (We have an earlier start now that mine are older.) Hang in there, establishing those habits will pay off later.
  4. :grouphug:(((Pam))) January always gets to me. I encourage you to keep moving, celebrate the little things, and look at the week as a whole. My personal solution is to clean the house before bed, have my things ready for the morning and eat a good breakfast.
  5. I'd be sure the bags and house were ready, because babies come when they want too;).
  6. LLATL is a gentle, inexpensive place for a novice homeschooler to implement with ease. It's a good curriculum that will not overwhelm an inexperienced home teacher, or a struggling student. I also think Saxon is easy for math. Using those for the core along with plenty of living books for history and science can be a great place for a new homeschooler to begin. Many will find themselves confident that the lessons can be completed and progress achieved.
  7. I'll just send some virtual support and a :grouphug:.
  8. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:How scary for the two of you. I'm glad he is doing better, and sending prayers.
  9. :grouphug: Wow, just wow. This is just another reason why we shouldn't clean our ovens.
  10. Yes, I would put white cabinets in a kitchen with kids. They can make a space look larger, feel brighter and fresher to me. My home has white cabinets, and I'll admit I was worried, but they are easy to wipe and I don't need do it that often.
  11. I love all the wood and counter space. What a beautiful place to gather with the family.
  12. I hadn't heard that, but I don't follow the pageants. But it's very cool that she won.
  13. I love vinegar for cleaning hard-water built-up on chrome in the kitchen and bathrooms. I put it in a baggie and tape it on the shower head, for the faucets, I sprinkle baking soda, pour on the vinegar and let it bubble then wipe. Vinegar does an amazing job on glass shower doors with soap / scum build-up. For those I use a squeegee and be sure to open a window for ventilation. I've also cleaned glass and mirrors, but you need to wipe with newspaper to eliminate the streaks. Since we don't get the paper anymore, I just use Windex for the most part. My hardwood floors look fine with a vinegar cleaning, but I prefer the shine stuff from the floor store. (It's all natural too, but costs a lot more.)
  14. The Teaching Company's High School Level—How to Become a SuperStar Student Taught By Professor Tim McGee, Ph.D., Trinity College, Worland High School, Worland, Wyoming This was an excellent resource for my dd.
  15. I wanted to say congratulations on the new job. Renting with an older animal for me would be a concern too. Health, feeding and care would be new to me. Someone with plenty of experience with horses and their care would be a good idea.
  16. He is a doll. I love the carseat pic too, but him in his little bed is just...beautiful.:grouphug:
  17. http://www.setontesting.com/ Test $25 http://www.pesdirect.com/ https://www.familylearning.org/tests_cat.php Do consider testing her in another setting like home. If you administer the tests yourself, she could begin with the math test vs. the LA tests. Definitely prepare her for the test in an non-stressful way and reassure her that she will have questions that are too hard for her right now. And the test directions are read to the student by the test administrator. If she has an LD, does she have to take the test, and can accommodations be made?
  18. :iagree: Teaching, discussing and ensuring the work gets done is the teacher's / adults responsibility in any setting.
