  1. I think most people use the term “cult” when they perceive a (generally religious) group dictating the lives, opinions, and finances of its members to a degree beyond what is considered normal by mainstream religions. I know I’ve said this before, but I had always wanted to be a Amish/Mennonite/Convent/compound-y person if it weren’t for the religion. I love the idea of working for a community of extended family (may not love it irl...). There is a famous, non-religious compound that was recently accepting application, but they don’t allow pets 😕 ETA: I know absolutely nothing about Anabaptists, this was NOT intended to be some underhanded way of calling them a cult
  2. Whole Foods here has separate shoppers and drivers. I asked who got the tip and it was the driver. My SIL uses instacart exclusively and she says they often work in teams so one can shop while one is delivering 🤷🏻‍♀️
  3. A lady I knew once loved to tell the story about how her ds9 was being disrespectful so she pulled over and kicked him out of the car. She said they were only a few blocks from home, but after 20 minutes when he didn’t show up, she went looking for him and the cops were there with him. From what she says, they just handed him over 🤷🏻‍♀️ The best part about the story was always the awkward silence that followed it.
  4. I could have written that other post, so I’m going to add my $0.02. i have a cat right now that is ALL the drama. She is so very, very loud with the warning meows and it only seems to encourage whomever she is meowing at to lunge at her. She doesnt fight constantly, she just makes everybody think they do. And the rest of the time, they all love each other. i would say that a few times a week I hear what sounds like a horrific, scrabbly, screamy cat fight that Races around the house and only very occasionally ends up with fur flying. They really are dramatic like that. Physical altercations last a few seconds BUT the stalking and yelling part can last a while Making it seem like forever. I’ll often grab the stalker and give him or her kisses trying to redirect and it often works. Sometimes, they go right back to stalking, though. FWIW, I’m also the one that just throws cats together and lets them sort it out. Idk who galaxy jackson is but I kind of tend to not anthropomorphise animals and just assume they’ll work it out In their own weird way since they’re stuck together. Yes, I know people will tell me about a time when that didn’t happen. ETA: yes, I realize I said I don’t want to anthropomorphisize an animal and at the same time calling them dramatic while giving kisses 😜
  5. We had a Bissel SpotBot pet for years and it was great! But we make too much of a mess and I ended up buying a steam cleaner to clean more floor area. Not quite as convenient as puttin down a machine and pushing a button, but ultimately better for us.
  6. Since it’s out of state, she will need to get the title notarized as she signs it! At least, that has been the case for us in AZ, OH, and CO.
  7. yes, sorry, “differentiate between active, viral RNA and the RNA fragments found in shedding.” Thank you!
  8. looks like afTer that amount of time it is primarily RNA fragments (studies linked in article). https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2020/05/evidence-prolonged-covid-19-virus-shedding-noted-china The regular PCR test will show active if you are still shedding, but it doesn’t differentiate between RNA and RNA fragments. Maybe 100 days is an outlier, I see 20-30 as an outside. Is somebody shedding after 30 days just as infectious as an active case? Probably not due to viral load, but..?
  9. This article actually links to a study that says, “Brief incubation in a boiling water bath however, made them completely sensitive to pepsin digestion; this permitted complete hydrolysis in a simulated gastric fluid and the reduction of risks associated with potential allergenicity.” So, yeah, regardless of whatever that article is saying, I kind of conclude that maybe I should briefly boil them to reduce my risk of tummy troubles.
  10. I agree that there’s no specific age, just when it bothers her. My mom assumed I was too young but at 9 I was suuuper hairy and the kids definitely said something. So I stole a razor and dry-shaved and you already know it was awful. I fully stopped a few years ago because I’m too old for people to make fun of me anymore 😉 DD was a gymnast but still refused to shave until she was 15 or so, but she had light hair. And since leaving gymnastics, she’s probably shaved 3 times (she’s 25 now). Echoing everybody else when I say don’t skimp on a razor, BUT you can’t start with a 5-blade monster, you have to work your way up since the skin isn’t used to being shaven (shorn? Shaved?). Good shaving cream, as well!
  11. I have a cute magnetic hook for my calendar and amazon sells plain ones for 4/$4
  12. I’m so sorry for your loss. And I’m so sorry you have to deal with this Can you have people make an “appointment” for calling hours? Can you make the service Open to specific people only? Can DH use the fear of death to have mom make masks mandatory? Can you and DH kind of discreetly trade off so you’re not both there the entire time?
  13. In my experience, they smell no matter how fastidious you are with cleaning. Not, like, vomit-inducing awful, just like, hey, you have ferrets! They generally get along great with cats and they are loving animals that need loads of interaction and stimulation. IMO, you can’t expect to be having a big hamster, but rather something along the lines of a dog that has a crate.
  14. Is this a straw-man fallacy or a false dilemma? It’s been so long since I’ve studied them.
  15. Is it a between-the-knees pillow, maybe?
  16. I am so sorry you’re in this position. Just reading it I feel very strongly that I would somehow contact the estate, just to tell them I’m in their side and am willing to help, but they may not be receptive. Since you feel very strongly, it may be the straw that breaks you and allows you to say a hard no and walk away. I understand how difficult that is, but damn. To wantonly and willingly rob a family....
  17. I didn’t see this topic or else I would have said this when you originally posted. Hands are complicated, generally need a specialist, and and often require surgery. Also, screw that lady on the phone. Yeah, your hand is probably what they said, but to be rude to a worried, wounded patient is so unacceptable. Ultimately, if you feel like there’s something wrong or you are unsure and you want to be seen, go somewhere else. Don’t feel bad for being the squeaky wheel.
  18. Is she asking you for money or only asking you to co-sign? It may be the rules of the apartment that if she is not making 3x the rent that she have a co-signer. They don’t care how trustworthy she may be or how much she has in savings. She could offer a bigger deposit, they may entertain that idea. If you don’t trust her or the other girls to pay their rent or not trash the place, you probably should not co-sign Fwiw, my dad literally co-signed in every rental I ever lived in since I never made 3x the rent and that was until last year when we bought a house. I would do it for my kid if she was otherwise responsible (and I would be very hopeful she didn’t leave me on the hook for fees or other problems...).
  19. Xh was delayed, 4-11 junior year, 6’ senior year and it took a very long time for body and facial hair. DD was delayed, but not by too long Even though it probably usually works out for most people, i’d still see somebody if I could, early intervention in case of an issue and whatnot.
  20. Yikes. “Defend our neighborhood...” File this information away for later and make sure your kids understand not to engage neighbors in any perceived conflict. Alternatively, show up to a meeting and learn for certain who is going to shoot first and ask questions later.
  21. The asteroid is coming by on Saturday and although it’s supposed to miss us, who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️ https://m.theepochtimes.com/3-huge-asteroids-to-make-close-approach-with-earth-in-coming-days_3376323.html (Sorry, didn’t know that was behind a paywall. Lots of articles everywhere, though)
  22. It looks like a hoverfly! I have no idea, though ETA: looks like this one! https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/beneficial/hover-flies-in-gardens.htm
  23. I thought 6 was a lot and then I realized I had mozzarella, provolone, Parmesan, Romano, cheddar, pepperjack, goat, slices of Swiss and a fancy snacking cheese, so.... Soon after I met MIL she asked me to cook her enchiladas at her house. I showed up with a stack of ingredients and went to shred cheese while my sauce was cooking and she did not have a cheese grater. I was so confused. I don’t have much in my kitchen, but that’s like a fork for me. We had to run to the store and buy one 😛
  24. Oldest, middle, younger, bonus. And then your next one would be Extra. The 6th would be “OM” for One More. Congrats!
  25. D: I am so sorry, that’s rough.
