Sebastian (a lady)
I'm scrapbooking some stuff about my elementary school and I keep thinking of our school song. We actually sang it at most school assembies, so it is something that has stuck with me. In fact, when I graduated from college, I was at a party and found another person who had actually gone to the same elementary school 20 years before I had. We stood around and sang our school song. I was thinking of this and wondering if I would be able to get my kids to adopt a school song for our school. If I were choosing, I'd pick Into The Fire from The Scarlet Pimpernel soundtrack. I suspect my kids would choose The Mesopotamians by They Might Be Giants So does anyone have a school song?
Catherine
also by They Might be Giants. We're into science here. My kids love music of all kinds so we are constantly listening to classical, weird Al, Trout Fishing in America, you name it. I have 4 CDs of old science songs (that my dh listened to when he was in elementary school), one with the original of "The Sun..."

momofkhm
But we never sing it. It's actually where I got the name for our school - Anchor Academy. Truthfully it's a hymn called Solid Rock, but we like the version sung by 4Him. The verse: When darkness veils His lovely face,I rest on His unchanging grace; In every high and stormy gale, My anchor holds within the veil. Free Indeed
Yes we do! We are Acorns to Oaks Academy after a summer musical our church did one year. There was a song that says "He is changing this acorn into a mighty Oak, He's making me holy, He's teaching me to grow- learning to trust and obey, I'm getting stronger each day" of course it goes on, but that is just a glimpse of it. :001_smile:

melhouse
No, we don't have one. However when I taught public school, our class song was, "Would You Like to Swing on a Star". Bing Crosby's version. Those little second graders loved it!! That was actually a really good album with a lot of kid friendly songs on it. I'm going to have to dig it out of storage. Peek a Boo
yeah: name: Kindled Flame Academy tagline: Lighting a Love for Learning. motto: Life is Tough. It's Tougher if You're Stupid song: Hark, the Voice of Jesus Calling By: Daniel March Hark, the voice of Jesus calling, "Who will go and work today? Fields are white and harvests waiting, Who will bear the sheaves away?" Loud and long the master calls you; Rich reward he offers free. Who will answer, gladly saying, "Here am I. Send me, send me"? If you cannot speak like angels, If you cannot preach like Paul, You can tell the love of Jesus; You can say he died for all. If you cannot rouse the wicked With the judgment’s dread alarms, You can lead the little children To the Savior’s waiting arms. If you cannot be a watchman, Standing high on Zion’s wall, Pointing out the path to heaven, Offering life and peace to all, With your prayers and with your bounties You can do what God demands; You can be life faithful Aaron, Holding up the prophet’s hands. Let none hear you idly saying, "There is nothing I can do," While the multitudes are dying And the master calls for you. Take the task he gives you gladly; Let his work your pleasure be. Answer quickly when he calls you, "Here am I. Send me, send me!"
Tenaj
No official song but on a day full of squabbles and complaining I've been known to break into a very loud and obnoxious-sounding version of "I've got peace like a river". It usually dissolves us all into giggles eventually and breaks us out of our bad moods :)

Susan in KY
We are the John Bunyan Academy of Learning.... Our school passage is Psalm 84:5-7, and our motto is "From Strength to Strength." Here is the hymn on net hymnal (nee cyber hymnal), and here are the words: He who would valiant be ’gainst all disaster, Let him in constancy follow the Master. There’s no discouragement shall make him once relent His first avowed intent to be a pilgrim. Who so beset him round with dismal stories Do but themselves confound—his strength the more is. No foes shall stay his might; though he with giants fight, He will make good his right to be a pilgrim. Since, Lord, Thou dost defend us with Thy Spirit, We know we at the end, shall life inherit. Then fancies flee away! I’ll fear not what men say, I’ll labor night and day to be a pilgrim.

Karen in CO
It's The End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) by R.E.M. I sing this whenever one of my kids start overreacting to something or acting like an assignment I give is the worst thing in the world. I start singing, the kids roll their eyes and we all get a good laugh. It lightens the mood. You Can't Always Get What You Want by the Rolling Stone of course. They actually played this at my college graduation as the graduation class was walking off stage and our of the gym. I will always remember that song and that moment. "And if you try sometime you find you get what you need." The actual school song for the kids while they are young should probably be Under a Shady Tree by our favorite kid's singer Laurie Berkner. We bought our house because of the shady tree in front, and we're often found under it enjoying a story.

AuntieM
Our school name is Cornerstone Academy, and we do have an anthem, In Christ Alone. Not really like a fight song, but DH and I agree that if they get out of our homeschool knowing nothing else, they're going to know this: In Christ alone my hope is found; He is my light, my strength, my song; This cornerstone, this solid ground, Firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, When fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My comforter, my all in all— Here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone, Who took on flesh, Fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness, Scorned by the ones He came to save. Till on that cross as Jesus died, The wrath of God was satisfied; For ev'ry sin on Him was laid— Here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground His body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain; Then bursting forth in glorious day, Up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victory, Sin's curse has lost its grip on me; For I am His and He is mine— Bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death— This is the pow'r of Christ in me; From life's first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No pow'r of hell, no scheme of man, Can ever pluck me from His hand; Till He returns or calls me home— Here in the pow'r of Christ I'll stand. dragons in the flower bed
Yes! We have two! The official one is the Discovery Channel's rewrite of Heart and Soul, "The World is Just Awesome." I love the mountains I love the clear blue skies I love big bridges I love when great whites fly I love the whole world And all its sights and sounds I love the oceans I love real dirty things I love to go fast I love Egyptian kings I love the whole world And all its craziness I love tornadoes I love arachnids I love hot magma I love the giant squids I love the whole world It's such a brilliant place The unofficial one is They Might Be Giants "Days of the Week." On Mondays, I never go to work. On Tuesday, I stay at home. On Wednesdays, I never feel inclined. Work is the last thing on my mind. On Thursdays, it's a holiday. And Fridays I detest. Oh it's much too late on a Saturday, and Sunday is the day of the rest. Oh yes, yes, practice trumpet everyday. Practice Monday. Practice Tuesday. Practice Wednesday. Practice Thursday. And Friday. And I practice all night on Saturday so on Sundays I play best. This is also our school schedule. :) We are unjobbers to the core, and this song reflects our decision to drop out from the rat race and learn Latin instead.
