scbusf
A friend gave me some clothes for my DS and they are great. The only problem is that her teen boys left them in a dirty clothes hamper for months. They reek. I have washed them 3 times and tried vinegar in the rinse cycle. What else can I try? wapiti
Soak in the washing machine with baking soda or borax in addition to the soap.
JudoMom
Odoban . I get it at Sam's Club. I just dump it in with the clothes. Sometimes I put it in the fabric softener dispenser. Sometimes I do both.

Catalytic
Seconding the Odoban, amazing stuff.
Pawz4me
Odoban is good. Putting a bit of Pine Sol in with your detergent also works very well for stinky teenage boy odors.
StephanieZ
Persil (sold at Walmart) is great for stinky clothes. I tried it once, and now I can't go back, lol. At least not until my own stinky boy leaves home! LOL Also, long soaks in the vinegar/detergent/whatever really help. If you have a top loader where you can load, suds, and then leave to soak for a couple hours, I'd definitely do that. I have front loaders, so I can't easily do that, but I've been known to fill the utility sink with detergent/vinegar and clothes . . . I did that last week with some fleece blankets that have been thoroughly stunk up. It worked pretty well. Took a few tries, but I got the stink out.
zoobie
We really like Persil too. Publix and Target are carrying it now as well as Amazon. For stinky stuff, someone here recommended Pine Sol. It works! You smell piney fresh until the next wash, but the human stank is gone.
HeWillSoar
Borax added to the wash load takes smells out for me.

Other Hive members have recommended it in the past. This! I was going to suggest it or really any sports gear laundry detergent. My grocery store carries two. It REALLY does make a difference. I have use the brand linked to and it saved an old running shirt of DH's. It smelled okish when it came out of the wash, but the moment he put it on his body and it got warm...gross! I thought I was going to have to toss it out. But one wash and it smelled fine. No problem with it any more. And ds1 and ds2 are both ballet dancers. Their dance studio doesn't have air conditioning and jacks the heat up in the winter to keep it hot. That whole building smells of 50 years of sweaty teenagers, lol. But their dance clothes no longer smell because of that stuff. Really I think any of these new sports washes will help. And you can use them for exercise gear.
gardenmom5
have you tried an oxyclean soak?
KungFuPanda
If you have a top loader, fill it with hot water, add ammonia, and soak for about an hour before rewashing.
ktgrok
What detergent are you using? A soak with Tide would fix it in my house. Other detergents, no. And the best Tide is the one with Bleach (it's actually oxyclean)

umsami
Tide has a special version with Febreeze called Tide Sport or some such thing. It works really well on my stinky boy clothes.
magnificent_baby
My grandma swore by Gain powder detergent for smelly farm laundry. I use liquid Gain and have no trouble getting DS's horribly smelly socks smelling clean again. And I mean horrible. Occasionally I'll have to throw them out, but that's very rare.
