madteaparty Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Handful of kids and their parents. I was thinking of that board game Pandemic but only 4 players. Any suggestions as to fun activities? I'm a decent cook and cocktail maker (parents!) but really horrid at entertaining kids... Quote
Starr Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Best party game ever - cheeto head. Google Quote
madteaparty Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 Ha. That does sound fun. I only got as far as family trivial pursuit ;) Quote
J-rap Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 (edited) My kids never tired of making Valentines, even as they got older. We'd have more sophisticated supplies so that they could make a couple special ones. Could you have a card table set up for those who want to do that? Also, we made individual heart-shaped pizzas once for Valentine's Day. The dough was ready ahead of time, and each person shaped it into a heart (just big enough for one person). After it had risen, they put toppings on it from an assortment I had. Edited January 19, 2016 by J-rap 1 Quote
Chris in VA Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 (edited) Pandemic? Seriously? At a Valentine's party? ??? That's kinda twisted. I mean that in the best possible way. So, make a craft (or have supplies out), play Charades, play Pictionary with Valentine words, show a video (UP would be appropriate, since it's about love and letting go), have them decorate sugar cookies (frosting/lots of sprinkles/tubes of icing to write or draw with)... THEN play Pandemic. ETA: You could make Valentines for soldiers at a local VA. Edited January 19, 2016 by Chris in VA Quote

theelfqueen Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 So what size group are you looking at ? Consider more party games like Geek Out, Werewolf, Dixit? They can play with larger groups and mixed ages better than say, Pandemic. Are you playing original Pandemic? Do you have expansions? On the Brink adds a 5th player... or In the Lab/State of Emergency take that further... Quote
Guest Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Older kids I've discovered like more complicated decorating - cards or deserts, something they can construct and/or eat. Then board games, absolutely! Quote
Garga Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Don't forget cookie decorating. Lots of different colored frostings, sprinkles, etc, for heart shaped sugar cookies. 1 Quote
Dmmetler Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Castle panic is cooperative and goes to 6 players. Quote
KungFuPanda Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Older kids are THE BEST! They entertain themselves. Just throw food at them. If they have games and grub they're good. Maybe set up a top-your-own pizza station? 1 Quote
Myra Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Also bingo with candy hearts for markers - you know, the kind with sayings on them like "I love you" or "U R cute" - bingo is often overlooked as a party game, but it is so simple to play and allows everyone to be silly or quiet! And I second cookie decorating - you could even buy unfrosted sugar cookies at the grocery store and canned frosting/sprinkles to let the guests decorate the cookies. Myra Quote
cintinative Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 i saw someone recently did a food themed birthday party--like cutthroat kitchen but they had the kids make stuff. Maybe you could do "cupcake wars" and have them decorate cupcakes and someone be judge, etc.? Or they could make heart shaped mini pizzas? 1 Quote

Maybe set up a top-your-own pizza station? This, plus a build your own sundae station, and you're golden. (We always do build your own sundae party at school for my 4th graders and it's their favorite school party.) 1 Quote
displace Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 (edited) Fondu party. They can help cut fruit/bread/stuff, make chocolate and/or cheese dip, etc. and eating fondu can be time consuming. Even more if they make their own bread or something. Eta - make chocolate lollipops. Have molds and colored chocolate melts, small brushes to paint molds, etc. Edited January 20, 2016 by displace Quote
madteaparty Posted January 20, 2016 Author Posted January 20, 2016 I like the fondue idea, thank you! Good winter food too. Most of the decorating stuff is out because I'm weird and believe the food needs to be prepared before the guests come and further i hate food coloring :) Thinking of hiring a tattoo artist now though! (I kid!) 1 Quote
