Dmmetler
One of the high school bio teachers who DD follows on Twitter posted a picture of an inflatable flea and tick his vet had given him for his classroom (advertising from a pharmaceutical company) and she thinks it's cool. She has a birthday coming up, and I think it would be neat to surprise her. Any ideas? I already checked EBay and Amazon and tried googling. ktgrok
Are you on good terms with your vet? Could you ask them to contact their drug rep and try to get you one? Or email frontline and ask them directly?
zoobie
You could message him on Twitter and ask for the pharmaceutical company name, then tweet or FB them. Maybe they would just send it to you. :)
wapiti
No, but I've seen stuffed lyme disease (amazon). Apparently there are other GiantMicrobes as well (MRSA, Ebola, neurons, etc).
Seasider
I've seen the cute, fuzzy, huggable stuffed microbes. Still don't want to cuddle up with one. A giant tick is, to me, about the most frightening thing imaginable. Happy Halloween with that!
Dmmetler
Oh, she has a bunch of those. Her current wish list includes a bunch of giant microbes, anatomical models of various creatures and body parts, and the plastic cat skeleton from the Halloween section at Target. I've got a weird kid.
EKS
I googled this and I think you might have to buy 3000 of them.
Dmmetler
That may be realistic, but I think a single tick would be plenty :)
Chris in VA
How about a stuffed one? Just google. Dog toys come up for some options--
Mergath
Definitely don't google "blow up tick" trying to find one. Oops.
Amy in NH
Has she seen the plush body parts at http://iheartguts.com/collections/plush-organs
Spryte
Contact the vet - they might give one to you, from the drug rep. We have a giant tick art project in our studio. I think the body is made of chicken wire, under all the other bits. And it is stuffed with my med bottles and bags, there may even be a sharps container in there (5 years worth), hanging from an IV pole. It's quite scary. But not inflatable. :P
Grover
and the plastic cat skeleton from the Halloween section at Target. my six year old cried when I wouldn't buy her one of these recently. weird indeed

Dmmetler
She'd probably like the parasites, but that's getting kind of expensive :). One thing I've realized is that anatomical models are pricey. I can kind of spin them as school, but really it's more that she wants to be able to take them apart, put them back together, compare what different organs look like in different animals and with her vertebrate anatomy book, and so on. She hates the idea of animals dying for dissections, but seeing what they look like inside, now that's cool. Yeah...another year where there are a lot of birthday presents that won't get opened in front of too many people....
Laurie4b
This wins some kind of thread title prize. I opened the thread thinking I would find there had been a typo or autocorrect or something... nope! Who knew there was such a thing as an inflatable tick? The Hive Mind knows.
MercyA
She hates the idea of animals dying for dissections, but seeing what they look like inside, now that's cool. She needs to come talk to my co-op. :(
Dmmetler
I messaged Frontline Plus on FB to see if we can get a set. We'll see what happens.
Seasider
: Who knew there was such a thing as an inflatable tick? .Well, when you stop and think about it, aren't all ticks sort of inflatable? Just not with air? ETA I can see it now... tick water balloons...
KarenNC
Can't even find it on the Archie McPhee site (which has the most off the wall collection of items I know of), sorry. I agree that your vet is the best bet.
Dmmetler
Ooh...I think DD needs a set of parasite pals, though. :)
foxbridgeacademy
I like these, not a tick or flea but still cool. Also these and these
J-rap
How about a red grape? When my son was a toddler, he was chewing on something happily and when I pulled it out of his mouth, I swore it was a red grape...until I saw its little legs! It was a full tick that had popped off of our dog. :-O
