Just realized my IBCLC accreditation expires next year. I need to decide if I'm renewing because if so, I need a whoopass lot of continuing ed credits between now & then.

But I don't know if I should bother. My job at the college is gone. New people there don't want me & I don't really want to go to private practice so it's a credential that I'm not using at all & don't know if I'll ever get to use.

otoh, seems a shame to let it lapse.....

My teaching certificate expired eons ago.  Thankfully Junie's Academy does not require me to have one. ;)

I don't know what kind of work I would need to do to be re-certified.  Since dd5 will still need me for a while, I haven't looked into it.  I figure the requirements will change 10 times before I'm ready to do it.

Always keep any license is my philosophy. Can you do online CEU's?

Well, I did 30 hours in an afternoon so I have faith you can do it. :)

holy cow, you really are a superwoman!

I can watch streaming video of conferences but for that it's 1 ceu for 1 hour of streaming.

There are also course packs to read & do multiple choice assessment & those I might be able to do a bit faster than advertised.... Except perimenopausal brain fog might mean I actually need to take 2h for 2h of learning.

This all might cut into my ITT time!

(edited because perimenopausal brain. Also English is my 2nd language and sometimes I speak it like I learned it from a book. Which I did.)

I've had this license for so long and have been practicing for so long that unless I find CEU's that are interesting, I choose ones that I am familiar with so the time input is minimized. I am required to have 9 hours in specific areas out of the 30 every two years, though, but ethics is 6 hours of it and it is pretty repetitive stuff.

I was curious and bored, so I looked up what I would need to do to re-certify.  Basically, it's 180 hours.  A 3 cr. hour class = 90 hrs.  So, two classes.

There are other things that you can do to earn hours --  conferences, getting published, etc.

It's really too bad that you can't CLEP a master's degree.

I've learned a lot about education in the 12 years I've been homeschooling.

ETA:  Certification is good for 5 years.  Which means I would have had to re-certify 3 times by now.  Without ever using it.  I decided to wait until dd5 (or my last child, if we happen to have more) is almost finished with high school and then work toward it.  My life should be quieter then.

If I had been on the ball, I could have had a special "for life" certificate.  But I misread the information and didn't realize that the non-education masters I was taking actually qualified.  So I let my license lapse.  There is no "for life" certificate anymore either.  They did away with that (though people with it would have been grandfathered in).

I know a homeschooling mom of now adults, who also subsequently has been running a hands on history class for young homeschoolers & she is doing a master's & got (I think) a year's worth of credits for her experiences. I can pm the name of the college if anyone is interested.

I'm here! Barely! I'm baking my 4th batch of bread. This batch is Hot Cross Buns. My third batch was sour dough French, which isn't sour at all. I guess I should let my starter sit for longer. But it sure tastes good with herb butter. I ate almost half the loaf. Which isn't good, since I'm taking it to my sil's tomorrow for Easter. And I guess I'll have to make some more herb butter. That stuff is positively addictive!

Newlywed friends that want to homeschool came over for dinner. I sent her home with a few HS catalogs, and a few books I found cheap like Apologia Chemistry and Physics and TruthQuest Beginnings. I told her she could keep the catalogs and you would think she'd won the lottery by the look on her face.

Can't sleep. And I'm hungry, but it hurts too much to eat. Let's see...what else can I complain about?

(((Susan)))  Would a smoothie be better?  Warm milk?  Hope you slept well!

Got our auto insurance renewal form today. Our premium is getting very close to $4000/year.

(((Susan)))  Bummer!  (We'll be there in a few more years, I suspect.)

I'm so grateful for Matt's insurance. His company was sold to a big crappy company years ago but part of the deal was that the new crappy company had to keep the awesome insurance options. We have $10 copays, varied doctor options, self referrals to specialists... all for about $150 a paycheck and no deductible. People keep trying to get Matt to leave his company because he can make more other places, but if he's caughing up $800 a paycheck he's not making any more money!

Good morning!  Happy Easter!

Dd has gotten permission from the pastor (aka dh) to bring Rusty to church.  While I think it is cute, I have some reservations because I don't think that Rusty is going to think it is such a fun trip and I think he will be a distraction in Sunday school.  But I am not going to weigh in on this because who wants to be the bad guy on Easter?

I'm baking a New York Crumb Cake and helping to assemble a model of the Hindenburg. Let's hope I don't get the two projects mixed up and end up with glue in the cake and crumb in the Hindenburg.

ETA: I got the Easter Booyah! Do I get a prize?

Our Easter program went really well this morning.   And I was awake.   :)

During the first service, dd8 went running down the aisle.  She was sick.  (She was also sick in the middle of the night.  I think it was nerves.)  She ate a donut in between services and was fine after that.

Dd13 was the narrator for the program.  Everyone said she did a super job.  (And they're right, in my completely unbiased opinion. ;))

I was talking to the drama director during the dress rehearsal yesterday.  She said that dd13 had had a hard time learning to pronounce the word "gall".  She said that after a few tries she could see the lightbulb turn on.  Dd13 said, "Oh, like Gollum."    I am raising a literature geek.  I'm so proud!
