Finished this morning with about 20 minutes to spare. It needs some repair after the party and there's some refining to do, but overall I'm pretty pleased.

Here's Chewy with two weirdos I've totally never met before in my life:

Come on folks! I have wrapping paper, tape and ITT! If more doesn't happen here, I'll have to resort to the chat board!

Tigger - gymnast

not Eeoyore (spelling?  I'm in a hurry so I'm not going to look it up) but the other positive one for dh

Christopher Robin for Dancer

No negative labels for anyone even though I love Eoyore (even if I can't spell his name)

Now got to dash!

"Bless your heart" is a Southern phrase the meaning of which varies upon context.

*This has been my educational post for the day.  Carry on.

Totally  People on the Chat Board have made it into something it is not.  I grew up with my mother blessing many people's hearts very sincerely, and it was not ugly or mean.

We didn't have a nativity until my parents went to Israel and bought us one in Bethlehem. :)

That is HARD CORE.

I like Pentatonix.

I know, right???  I want to be them when I grow up.

Are there laws against duct taping kids mouths shut and tying them to their beds? Asking for a friend.

Yes.

I'm finishing decorating, too.

When ds8 was only 3, I asked him to tell me about the nativity set I'd just set up. He began to point:

"Dat's Baby Jesus, and dere's Joseph, and dat's da Mommy, and dat right dere?..." (pointing to the wisemen).... "dey are da Dave Maffew's Band."

I dont' touch some of those conversations with a 100ft pole. I don't even open them. Nope. Nope.

Me either. Way too much slamming done in the name of "debate." I am always happy when I find a good one, but that is getting more rare as the years go by. I think people get very comfortable here after a while and forget that the level of trust needed for brutal honesty or idea critiquing is not present in an online forum.

But then, this is my happy place lol.

Went to coffee with a friend and talked about science and literary analysis planning. And other stuff:-) Dh texts me, "Must be a really big cup of coffee." Did I mention was gone for 2.5 hours?

Making tilapia and creamed spinach for dinner using leftover awesome sauce from last night.

If Renai is done wrapping, she can come to my house to help, lol.

I was at the play for about an hour and a half, and both my odd father and college girl called during that time.  They have an uncanny sense for when I am absolutely unavailable.  My odd father wanted to let me know he had solved the mystery of the dying oak saplings, and college girl wanted to report on her odd customers (bank teller job).

Perhaps odd father and college girl should be swapping numbers to use when you are otherwise engaged. Surely odd father has some good advice about odd customers (takes one to know one, and all that).

HI, Swellmomma!

It sounds like the powers above the director were already made aware of the situation (the slapping).  Might they have reported it, or does that require someone on hand at the facility at the time of the slapping?  If they themselves have not reported it or directed anyone at the facility to do so you could mention your concerns that the facility might be vulnerable to legal action, but then drop it.  The responsibility is theirs now.

Movie night sounds like a lot of fun.  I'm glad your students wanted to sit with you!

It needs to come from the person that saw it (me) with the approval of the director (her) the operational director is not actually on site, she does all the accounting for all 3 centers, was the original director and has spent the last 18 months trying to help new director do her role (like coming to big meetings, helping do the performance reviews and being the "backup" anytime there is something that needs a voice fo authority because new director doesn't have that.  After the last big meeting where lines had to be drawn for a family, she told new director that for now on all of those tough things that need that voice are to be sent to me, because I have it.  ANd not only do I have it, but the families do not react to me like they do the original director.  They respect me (they listened to old director but would not hesitate to scream obscenities at her if they thought she wasnt' fair, not a single one has ever done such a thing to me in all my years there and yet I have escorted parents from the premises for unacceptable behaviour etc).  I told my concerns about legal responsibility to the director, the ball is in her court now.

I saw a few more of "my" kids today around town.  I love walking down the street hearing "Bob!" with kids waving or running over for a hug (bob is my nickname at afterschool care).  THe movie was great.  Today both girls had dance, youngest got her picture done with santa, run a pile of errands and now getting ready to go to a xmas party at my folks.

This makes sense. I attended a (voluntary) science workshop that was all about physics for grades 3-6. We did a lot of hands-on stuff; it was fun. Anyway, they were of the mind that there should be more physics instead of biology in elementary grades because it is so much more hands-on and applicable to their lives (hammer, nails, vehicles, opening doors...).

ETA: So, have you decided on an algebra-based physics program?

This post by Regentrude sums up where I want to go...

There is nothing wrong with conceptual physics. It is quite sufficient for a liberal arts minded student, and your math/science minded 8th grader can plan to take a more rigorous math based course later in high school.

Just to give you some perspective: I teach a calculus based physics course for STEM students at the university, and about 20-25% of my students never took any physics course in high school - and these are students majoring in math and science!

With algebra 1 completed, your students might be ready for an algebra based physics course if the algebra included quadratic equations, and if it was thoroughly mastered. It is hard to judge without knowing your students. I do not think you can make a mistake by choosing Conceptual Physics. (If it turns out to be not challenging enough for your younger son, you could simply buy a used algebra based text for a few $ and have him use it as a supplement.)

Go ahead, don't second guess, it will work out fine.

So, I am using the Conceptual Physics text as our main text. Taking her advice, I have Knight to add in where and when I feel like he could use a boost and to raise the math level. If he were doing it 11th or 12th, I might use Knight fully. He is a good reader and bright, but since he is young, I want to focus on really learning the material. I think it is an important foundation for the sciences. I like Hewitt's approach. Thorough and understandable.

I am probably going to use Conceptual Academy for videos and exams and add in resources from Knight as well.

Does that make sense?

He he, that is my evil plan, Lynn.

We usually don't talk school, but occasionally one of us will bring something education up. I should have added a disclaimer, lol. But since Renai asked a question, I didn't want to leave her hanging, cuz

And I try to give credit where due... All of this physics planning knowledge is certainly not coming from my feeble brain. I have been sent on many a good rabbit trail from her posts, and I have great affection for her  I also agree with her on many other things, so there's that:-)

You're supposed to emulate Christ, not Christians. ;) We have the willow tree nativity which I love because it doesn't have the faces.

http://www.familychristian.com/willow-tree-nativity-set.html

I know, I know. I just feel like I should at least honor Him a bit more. lol It might be some latent guilt from knowing my mom had over 50 nativities at one point. We finally told her she had a problem. lol

I worked at a Christian bookstore many years ago and saved for the whole Willow Tree nativity for my mom. I adored it. I should get one for us as well. It's probably my most favorite display.
