Salwa
What are good (clean) TV shows for 12 year olds? We have a 12 year old son so my primary interest is for boys. Kids love TV and we might as well get them to watch good stuff instead of mindless surfing or junk.
Momling
Dr. Who is popular here.

SamanthaCarter
I don't know how good my 10-12 year old filter is, but I think Merlin would be enjoyable for them. It's clean, it doesn't really follow the King Arthur legends. Instead, it takes the characters and goes from there.
texasmama
My 11 year old son really likes Dr. Who.
Paige
My DS's favorite shows are Merlin, Dr Who, Once Upon a Time, and Brain Games.
foxbridgeacademy
My DS's favorite shows are Merlin, Dr Who, Once Upon a Time, and Brain Games. DS also really liked Merlin and Mythbusters is his favorite. Doctor Who is the show we all watch. If your DC is easily scared there are a few episodes (Empty Child) that might want to be viewed in daylight only. Seriously, you start watching the show thinking here's this goofy guy running around after silly monsters and next thing you can't here the word "mummy" spoken without getting a chill. We LOVE it.

Plink
Martha Speaks (animated) For a 12-14 year old??? The Amazing Race needs to be on this list

Lori D.
Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs were very popular with our tween/young teen DSs. Get Smart -- episodes from this old series with the cheesy, goofy humor were also enjoyed. Star Trek: Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine All Creatures Great and Small Jeeves and Wooster The Twilight Zone Eek the Cat (cartoon) Pinky and the Brain (cartoon) The Last Airbender (cartoon)
FriedClams
We love The Amazing Race, Master Chef Junior, Phineas and Ferb, other superhero cartoons, Warehouse 13 (I don't but dh and kids love it), Fetch, and chopped.
OneStepAtATime
Popular Mechanics for Kids (may be too young) American Pickers Doctor Who Merlin Heroes Avatar the Cartoon series (Whole family loves this, even my husband) Korra (the continuation of the Avatar cartoon but start with Avatar) Record Lodos Wars (Japanese Anime, well done) Hogan's Heroes (DS10 actually learned an amazing about about WWII by watching this, then looking up the names and terms they were tossing around; It started him on an in depth study of Erwin Rommel) Babylon 5 Myth Busters House Hunters Renovations (DS learned that if you are going to get married, go house hunting with them first to make sure you are compatible  ; He and DD also learned that you need to look beyond the cosmetic to the bones of the house. If it has a terrible layout, just walk away. :) They also learned that houses are expensive so save your pennies and if you remodel, don't change your mind 50 thousand times and you better be flexible and accept your life will be disrupted for a lot longer than you thought. )

Tanaqui
Teen Titans (the original series, not the new one, according to the girls) Batman Beyond All the Star Treks, especially Deep Space 9 Babylon 5 The Flash (gosh, I'm loving that show. I'm trying to think of a way to force or at least coerce the girls to watch it with me when it comes out on Netflix!) Cosmos Avatar: The Last Airbender (DO NOT bother with the racefaily movie) Gargoyles (available free on Youtube, and the best Disney afternoon cartoon ever) Hey Arnold, if you can find it anywhere on the internet Psych Monk (but blech, not the last season) Once Upon a Time Avonlea, if you can find it anywhere on the internet The Wonder Years I'm inclined towards BtVS (if only I could get older kiddo, who is 11, to consent to watch it! But she is ethically opposed to the killing of vampires, apparently), but upon reflection, that's probably something you'd want to pre-watch in case your taste and mine don't line up. Oh, and all those PBS shows - 1900 House, Colonial House, Pioneer House and whatnot. (I just wish they'd make more of them. Tell me you wouldn't sign up to be on 1980s house!)
EndOfOrdinary
Buffy has some scenes that border on rape. It gets really dark as the seasons progress and quite sexual.
Tanaqui
Yeah, you're right. I was thinking about the first few seasons.

Scorpion (CBS) Human Target Gortimer Gibbons - Life on Normal Street (Amazon original series) Robin Hood (BBC series - season 1 available on Netflix; season 2 &3 available on Amazon) Myth Busters Outrageous Acts of Science
Holly
Mythbusters Mysteries at the Museum Drive Thru History Food Network--we watch several shows on that channel Once Dr Who My DS watches lots of survival type shoes on Discovery Channel. He also likes the gold mining ones, but they have lots of bleeps, so I don't care for those. Psych American Pickers Merlin the treehouse show on Animal Planet--can't think of the name They all still watch Disney and Nick (but not the Teen Nick channel). DD loved Tinman (on Netflix) and it's a favorite of mine as well.
