  1. Thanks. Will heck it out. The CTY programme at John Hopkins requires testing. What scores are required to get in?
  2. Anybody doing online algebra courses that get a certificate? Any one used John Hopkins or Stanfords EPGY?
  3. Thank you all. Got caught up and forgot to say it earlier :)
  4. This is the science text book for my 6th grader. I think only a few chapters will be covered. Hive Mind _ what is in the Workbook and Teachers Resource that is not there in the Coursebook? Is there a e version - would you know?
  5. Highly highly recommend Times Attack. http://www.bigbrainz.com/ Son played it on the computer. They have a free and paid version. He now tops his calss in Math Facts. This takes the slog and tedium away from mugging facts.
  6. What are good (clean) TV shows for 12 year olds? We have a 12 year old son so my primary interest is for boys. Kids love TV and we might as well get them to watch good stuff instead of mindless surfing or junk.
  7. My son does not do Saxon in school. He is an incoming 6 grader. I gave him the middle grades placement tests today. GAve him questions 1-20. Will give him 21-40 tomorrow. He scored 11 /20. Of the 9 mistakes, 8 were careless mistakes in addition and subtraction. I say careless because his math facts are very strong and its not as if he doesnt know 16-7=9. Two questions - How do I treat the careless mistakes? What can I do to see that he stops making such mistakes.
  8. Mandy, He finished level C, in the test qualified for Group 2 and has just begun level D. He slipped to group 2 because of time. My son takes way longer than the allotted 15-20 minutes for Kumon worksheets. For level C sometimes he took as much as 50 minutes. His accuracy is on target. There is dawdling and I know he can significantly cut down on time. That said I am not sure he could do the Level C worksheets in 11-15 minutes. Do kids becomes faster with more worksheets? Thanks.
  9. Been reading your thread about your 5th grader son. My son is just the same. Reads beyond grade level but teacher says comprehension is an issue. When he reads he skips words or looses place. I feel his comprehension suffers because of this. We checked his eyes, tracking is an issue. What therapy and exercises did you do with your son? Thanks.

  12. Just discovered son doesn't know how to do this. Any links to worksheets? When does Saxon teach this? Thanks :)
