Karen in CO
Travel. and then more travel. We just returned from our first overseas trip. We learned so much by being in Rome that it overshadowed years of studying about it. There is really nothing like walking around a place you have learned about. btw - after seeing my first castle up close, I can NOT imagine anyone ever trying to storm a castle. Everything short of travel has now been shifted down my priority list.

Seasider
Time. Can I buy time? I need an 8 day week. And I need everything else to go into suspended animation for 24 hours on that 8th day. Can I buy that? I guess I have to limit it to the concrete world. So, I'd hire some services out to maximize my own time. I'd like a housekeeper and a sous chef (I like to cook but want someone else to do the mundane grocery shopping and prep work). I would never do laundry again. Nope, I will pay someone well to do it for me. Like so many have said, travel. That's probably the number one thing on my list. And I don't just mean money to get there and back, but enough money to do things in the most interesting ways. I think it would be best to actually live out of the US for longer periods of time than most vacations typically run. I'd start a Fund Worthy Projects foundation. I would challenge my family to come up with general parameters and accept proposals for Neat and Admirable Things and teach my kids to think critically about which projects to fund. And then to encourage and track their progress. Of course, I would be hoping my kids had their own bunch of Neat and Admirable Things to propose, too. I could go on and on, but I'll stop now. foxbridgeacademy
1. An amazing microscope 2. Weekly Riding Lessons, Ice Skating Lessons, 3. Tuition for the really $$ 1 day a week Cottage School 4. unlimited budget for Curriculum so I don't have to dither over spending $$$ on a Science/Writing/Math program that looks good but may be a total bomb. 5. money for Education Vacations: Washington DC, Grand Canyon, Zoo's across America!.... okay, I have to stop there, this is making me sad. IsabelC
I would basically have a one-student school at home for each of my children, with most of the teaching done by about 20 top-notch private tutors. I would be in charge of overseeing all the planning, timetabling and curriculum choices, then I would 'float' from one child to the other to make sure it was all working. We'd have four beautifully equipped and set up general learning areas, one for group time and one for each child. Plus specialist areas such as a music studio, art studio, science lab, gym and swimming pool. And of course, a fully stocked library. Next I would buy all the houses in my neighborhood and resell or rent them out to families I approve of with kids I think would be good for my kids to know, who, of course, are also home schooled. Hang on, maybe I need to be a celebrity or a dictator or something lol
fraidycat
A live-in housekeeper and COOK!!!!! I already have loads of cool currics, I just need more TIME! And I'd also buy a few cool things like an awesome microscope... I'm happy to spend my time and energy educating my kiddos, but would love to outsource the cooking and cleaning... especially the cooking! Yep! Except, I would outsource a few things... 3 months in Europe for tons of super awesome field trips! Really, I'd love to just "unschool" for a year and just do math and have them read and write about everything we are doing and travel all across the US and Europe. I want more than 3 months! Buy a big enough house with a piece of land and build a "school house" out in the lot. (with a quiet study room/library, a classroom, a computer lab, bathroom and a snack/lunch area). Maid and cook. International trips paid for 2 a year: to Europe and home to visit family. (oh and 1st class or private jets plz. I want comfort when travelling with 4 kids, we did say money is no object, right???) Memberships to all the local museums/aquariums and a chauffeur (and nice comfy conversion van) to drive us there (DH hates driving LOL). Hey, a girl can dream right? Sounds good. ;) $ for a great boarding school. Its been a rough week. I hear you!! Totally at odds with all my other wishes...but hey, that's me - Mrs. Hypocrisy. summer programs I would love to sign my kids up for several, but some of them are $450 a week. I just cannot swing that. Oh my gosh. Forget programs. I have camps I want to send mine to. For the low. low. rock bottom price of $1800/week/child. And there are so many cool ones, I could keep them there ALL summer long, and they'd NOT miss DH and I once. I'm sure of it! Pali Adventures That personal masseuse sounds fantastic, too please! Minimum of 3 times per week, thanks. There's about a gajillion books that I want. And while I'm at it - I want somebody to plan and gather all my supplies so that I truly do just have to open and go. That lovely schoolhouse I'd have on my huge property (taken care of by landscapers/gardeners) would come complete with a fully stocked, fully functional science lab for the science professional/tutors to use for science lessons. And I'd also buy a few cool things like an awesome microscope... I'm happy to spend my time and energy educating my kiddos, but would love to outsource the cooking and cleaning... especially the cooking! I'd love someone to do the heavy cleaning once a week and someone else to do the yard work -- weeding is never ending around here. Also a bigger lawn mower so my son could do the lawn in less than 4 hours. I don't know if I'd want a cook in my house, but pre made meals that were healthy and allergen-free would be awesome. Man, now you've really got me dreaming.
linders
The biggest asset to our homeschooling would be weekly maid/laundry service. I often feel torn between doing more cool projects/readalouds and the daily stuff that needs to happen here.
Another Lynn
In the "girl can dream" realm, I'd pay someone to develop "beam me up" technology so that we cut all our commutes down to seconds. :D
emzhengjiu
Okay, with a budget of $500 I would get a weekly native speaker as a tutor for my daughters or a new computer for me. Forget this budgeting nonsense, I like the unlimited money dream better!!! Travel, travel, and then more travel. I would take my girls to live in New York for a year. See all the shows and visit all the museums! Then Europe! Before children, I traveled often. I miss the excitement of being immersed in a new environment. Desert Strawberry
An electric piano and lessons for my oldest, gymnastics for the middle two, an occasional babysitter, more time to do it all, travel. Any travel.I'm not picky. really, we have a wonderful program. It's cheap, but it's exactly what I want. Time is our biggest limitation. Jayne J
Cook Chauffeur Housekeeper I'd need all three, wherever we traveled, since we would be traveling for the foreseeable future. And I'd like native speakers to tutor my children in whatever languages they (the children) choose, plus Latin and Greek tutors. And maybe in higher maths when we get there, so I can save my energy for teaching what I prefer. And a fully stocked science lab waiting for us at home when we got there, along with the library, of course. And And And. Sigh.

Hannah
Well now that I'm dreaming, on a totally unlimited, I'd stop working immediately. Actually, while we're at it, dh would have the option as well. Housekeeper, Personal Chef, Personal trainer, Landscaper, Chauffeur - I'd be living with a full staff that somehow manages to accomplish their tasks without invading our privacy. PhD tutors for every subject. I'd be sitting in on literature discussions, history and foreign language. They'd have the budget to buy anything they need - science equipment, educational dvd's, etc. Sports coaches and music instructors. Like others have said - travel! Since dh and I won't be working, we'd get the PhD's to be our personal tour guides! With a limited (but more generous than now) budget... I'd have all our books couriered. International postage is a killer! ALL Cambridge International Exam books for the IGCSE course dd is doing next year so that I don't need to try and figure out which ones look the best from the samples. A complete homes science kit. History and Science documentaries, Teaching Company dvd lectures (again the postage is the killer on those).
