HappyGrace
I know someone must have the answer to this! :)
Snickerdoodle
I know! This year has been especially bad. In fact, I think I won't be ordering again next year not just because of this but because of other issues too.
SJ.
Washing machine? I have a pair of Merrill Pace Gloves that were so very, very, VERY stinky. I put them in the washer, they don't smell new but I can no longer smell a strong funky feet smell when I am wearing them. Yes, they were so bad the stink traveled from my feet to my nose. :svengo:
Jennifer in MI
Wash them in the washer. Stick them outside in the sun. I wear them and they are fine as long as they are on my feet. When they are off, however, WATCH OUT! Yuck! I usually stick them outside in the sun and then wash my feet down. Other than that, I love these Keens! athomemom
Beats me, my son won't wear his because of this very reason.
Mommyfaithe
Ds has stink foot too. We were all dying on our long car trip this weekend. Something MUST be done!
HappyGrace
I wear them and they are fine as long as they are on my feet. When they are off, however, WATCH OUT! Yuck! Yes, that is true!!! Even he can't stand the stink. And then he walks the stink from his bare feet afterwards onto my carpets :tongue_smilie:
Chris in VA
I've seen the advice to sprinkle baking soda on them overnight, then wash in the machine, then dry in sun. Could you spray with Lysol or something, too? Can you change the footbed with a new insole?
MamaAkins
Throw them in the washing machine and then let them dry in the sun. We do it every few weeks. In between, I'll periodically spray ours with Odo-ban and let them dry.
Lovin Learnin
Lysol won't work (ask me how I know). I'm going to heed the advice here and throw mine in the wash and let them sun dry. I really hope that helps because I love my Keenes.
ondreeuh
I tried: scrubbing with antibacterial soap and an old toothbrush washing in the washing machine soaking in a bucket of bleach water I finally threw them away. The next year I bought another pair with an "improved" sole, and it was a little better. They still got stinky, but bleach water would fix it. happi duck
Has anyone tried spraying shoes with vodka between wearings? I've heard of this but haven't tried it yet.
Isabella
Something that should work, but on a pro-active level, rather than retro-active....soak your feet in a bowl of water that has had a teaspoon of lavender oil added to it. Soak for 10-20 mins. Repeat every 2 or 3 weeks. This should prevent your feet sweating so much & stinking up the shoes!
Carpe Diem
Per someone else's recommendation. I thought perhaps this was a little gross but tried it anyway. It worked and I haven't had any strong odors and have worn them several times without problems.
orangearrow
Throw them in the washing machine and add detergent and some Lysol disinfectant: http://www.amazon.com/Lysol-Brand-Concentrate-Disinfectant-Original/dp/B000P9WR34/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344317831&sr=8-1&keywords=lysol+disinfectant The stuff has a weird, strong Band-Aid sort of odor straight out of the bottle, but it does a great job for removing stains and odors in the laundry. Then, put them outside in the sun to dry. We've been doing this all summer and no issues here.
HappyGrace
When you wash them and sun dry them, do they fade? Ds has the cool looking red ones and we want to keep them looking bright. If not, I'll try that, thanks.
Miss Marple
We wash our Keens all the time. Put them in the washer (I use the gentle cycle) and put them outside in the sun to dry.
Jan in SC
Has anyone tried spraying shoes with vodka between wearings? I've heard of this but haven't tried it yet. I think Mythbusters tackled this myth and proved it busted!! (Though it may have been washing feet with vodka.)
Twinmom
Odor eaters spray works for my very stinky DD and her very stinky shoes, every time. Don't know if that will work for what you are talking about, but so far it has worked on every pair of shoes we have tried it on!
Tess in the Burbs
we tried everything last year but they were awful! He got another pair this year b/c we couldn't find anything he liked. But he's avoided wearing them all summer. My dd's don't have this problem. So I am not sure it's a shoe issue so much as a boy foot issue :glare::lol:
Myra
As a mom of two boys, I am not new to stinky shoes - unfortunatelyl! I heard this on the Dr. Oz tv show earlier this summer (now don't get me started about how much that man bugs me, but it's always on the tv at the gym where I work out in) anyway.....stick the shoes in the freezer overnight. It works every time! Strange, but it really does work! So every night this summer, my two kids have stuck their sneaks in the freezer and took them out to "thaw" during breakfast.
