tammyw
Sort of a spin-off of the other thread. Just wondering which books you love as much as your kids? For me there are many, but a couple I have loved: - Harry Potter series - Mysterious Benedict series - Penderwicks series
angela in ohio
Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm Paddington books (my dc don't like them much, but I do)
Staceyshoe
Winnie the Pooh! I had never read it before and love it!:D
Critterfixer
Winnie the Pooh Beatrix Potter-The Tale of Jeremy Fisher and The Tale of Samuel Whiskers. I also happen to LOVE Ginger and Pickles, but for some reason that one just doesn't click with the kids. The Hobbit. I really like reading the Hobbit aloud, but the boys didn't really get into it until I got out the BBC dramatization. Maybe my Gollum needs work. The Cat who Swallowed Thunder by Lloyd Alexander-we all loved that one. Current read aloud is Treasure Island and we are all into that one. Rosie
I can't think of more than about 2 read alouds that my kids didn't love, so here are my favorites... Every single A.A. Milne book (including poetry) Understood Betsy The Magician's Nephew The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Gooney Bird Greene The Jesus Storybook Bible Robert E. Wells books The Llama Who Had No Pajama Twenty and Ten The Year of Miss Agnes
RoxanneB
I have a 4th grader, so we're past the little ones level: Little House on the Prairie series (I looked at everything from the parents' viewpoint!) "Everest" by Gordon Korman--riveting! There are others, but I'll have to remember what they were!
crazyforlatin
Some of them have been listed, but I'll list the one that both DH and DD bonded over - Summerland. They also have their shared inside jokes from Prachett's Bromeliad Triology, Girl who Circumnavigated Fairyland, and LOTR.
estelleblue
Definitely the Little House series. I had not read them as a child, and this year my children and I have listened to almost the entire series on audiobook. We have all enjoyed it, but I more than them. Amy Jo
St. George and the Dragon. Pretty much all the chapter books we've read so far (Door in the Wall, Adam of the Road, Little House Books, The Hobbit, The Book of Three, etc). Anything by Robert McCloskey. Chrysalis Academy
Harry Potter series - we both loved it The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate - ditto Winnie the Pooh - I love it, Mo is just so-so. I actually don't love reading it any more, now that we have heard the great audiobook version with Judy Dench and others.
BugsMama
The Phantom Tollbooth. They are too young to "get" most of it, and I ruin it by laughing out loud while trying to read. LOVE it. :D
Aurelia
The Milly-Molly-Mandy Storybook The Railway Children (Ariel liked it a lot, but I was surprised by how much I liked it. Farrar
Things I think I've probably liked *more* than the kids that we've done in the last year or two... Finn Family Moomintroll and Comet in Moominland - Don't get me wrong, they liked the Moomins a lot, but I fell head over heels in love. The Saturdays and all the sequels - We're on the third one now and the language in the chapter about Oliver's love of bugs and seeing the Luna moth... Oh, I was in heaven. The kids were just drifting off to sleep. Ha. Though they did ask to see photos of the various bugs later. They're enjoying, just not as much as dh and I. The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland - Loved it. But I should have waited a couple of years on it for the kids because of the complexity. They liked it, but I realized how much they missed. Moniksca
Harry Potter, I've been wishing for him to want to read them and he was finally interested this year. He saw a picture of voldemort when he was younger and was terrified of him because he didn't have a nose, now he just laughs at him.

Farrar
I was hoping for a sequel. I'll buy anything she writes. :D I thought of one more. Charmed Life by Diana Wynne Jones. She's one of my favorite writers and I was psyched to introduce her to the kids, but her plots are so twisty-turny. They didn't love it. tammyw
So glad to see others enjoying children's books as much as I do! I actually decided a while back to regularly read dd's books, rather than my own, so that we can discuss together. It's been a lot of fun! We're currently both reading Crunch (independently) and it's a pretty fun read. It's about a time when there is no more gas, and the parents are stuck away from home. The kids are running their home-based bicycle business, which is booming because no one can drive. I'm halfway through this one. Just before this book, I read The Westing Game, which was also unique and interesting!
reign
Peter pan. I never read it as a child. I adore it though. We have listened to two audio versions and they both were great. I read it aloud too but it just comes to life with a english narrator. It is such a funny interesting book. The girls are a bit obsessed with it at the moment. Marsha SC
Oh! Books!! I loved the Benedict series (can't wait to read the newest, that I picked up from the library yesterday!) Savvy (and its follow-up Scumble); I made my oldest read it for school and she loved it so much she bought herself a copy and waited anxiously until Scumble came out last summer. The Narnia Series (in order, as he intended) ;) There are so many more books to read! Marsha
plansrme
Call of the Wild. I read it as my 8 yo did this past school year, and there were many instances of his saying, "I'm ready to read. Where is my book?" and my saying, "Hush. Go watch TV or something; let me finish this chapter." He liked it, but he did not understand Buck the way I do.
