frugalmama
OK, I have a small stack of things, but how do you determine cost of shipping? For, let's say, Saxon spiral-bound teacher's manual? Â I either weigh it on a food scale I have, or just guesstimate.
mommymilkies
I use our elementary science scale. Then I figured out how to estimate online. If they have you pay via goods, you can print out the shipping label from paypal for much cheaper. A wonderful lady on here just taught me how to. :D Â I would totally be interested if you do have a Saxon manual, btw. ;)
Kathleen in VA
I just go ahead and ship the items, get a receipt and tell the receiver how much it cost. Both people I've dealt with sent me paypal as soon as I let them know what I paid.:)
*Inna*
Thank you so much! Â OK, here we go then. :D Â Â Mead Learn to Letter with Guidelines tablets. It has thick pages with indentations for letters, supposedly to guide the child writing. Cuisenaire Rods Alphabet Book, Problem Solving A to Z. Some pages has been written on, but still useable. Explode the Code. Teacher's Guide for Books 1 and 2 Worldly Wise A. A couple of pages have pencil writing. Phonics and Word Analysis A and B, by Continental Press. Brand new. I have no idea why I have these, don't remember buying. :tongue_smilie: More Mudpies to Magnets. Great condition. Saxon Math K Teacher's Edition and Meeting Book. The TA is in good condition - has a pen scribble on the first page, otherwise is great. The Meeting Book has some crayon scribbles, but may be still useable. Math Mammoth Grade 2 A and B. I printed both books at Kinko's (I think). They are soft cover, spiral bound and black and white. We have used some pages from 2A - they are missing. The 2B is complete. Free for a good home, just pay for shipping. :001_smile: Edited March 12, 2012 by *Inna*

LBS
I"m sitting here trying to figure out what to do with piles and piles of books....I need to sell the ones that I can get decent money for, but I'd love to get other stuff to good homes, just like this thread is doing. I'm sure there are better titles, but, a whole sub-forum with the Sale and Swap Forum.....swaps are really hard to co-ordinate. Â Great idea, sharing is good. Kathleen in VA
I have a full-size STORA (Ikea) loft bed I'd like to give away. This is a wooden bed stained a light wood color. It is high enough for an adult to walk under without having to stoop. Two things - we took the bolts off the ladder so that it could be removed easily during the day (it took up floor space) and we lost the bolts. It still has the hooks that attach it to the bed, so it's sturdy for climbing still - the ladder just isn't bolted on.  Also, during one of our cleaning days someone took the ladder and stuck it up in our wooden fort outside and it has been indirectly exposed to the weather. It could easily be painted or restained though. (or if you're really adventurous you could just use it as is.:D) I also have the mattress and a set of sheets to go along with it. (We have no other full-size beds in our house).  This bed was only used by my oldest, now married, son. He is a clean freak (at least one shower a day - often more) so the mattress is relatively clean.  Anyone in the NoVa area or thereabouts is welcome to come get it.  The loft bed has found a new home!:)

DawnM
Well, I can tell you that if I have to pay for the items to be shipped I will find someone locally to give to. Kathleen in LV
This may have already been mentioned, but just a reminder that books and software can be shipped by Media Mail. It is a whole lot cheaper than Parcel Post or Priority Mail (although a little slower). Â Also, if you want to determine the cost of postage in advance, you can look it up at www.usps.com through the "Calculate a Price" link on the left side. You will just need to know the weight of your item(s) and the zip code of the recipient. And if you need a box to ship your items, try your local grocery store, especially in the morning when they're restocking the shelves - they're always happy to give me as many as I want. On a related note, when I want to estimate shipping and know the weight of the package but not the zipcode, I use 90210 because that's about as far away from me as you can get in the continental U.S. (maybe there's somewhere farther, but like you said, that particular zip code is easy to remember). I'd rather estimate too much than too little (referring to online selling, mostly, where I might want to state a flat shipping charge).
