I'm having an affair with Khan

Recommended Posts

My son in college is less than thrilled with the fact that his Cell Bio professor is having the class watch Khan videos rather than lecturing herself.

I would find that less than thrilling myself. Is does make one wonder what that college tuition is being used for.

Regards,

Kareni

So how does Kahn work? Is it for 2nd graders (and their Mommy's) too? :)

I use it with my 1st grader. It basically links us to youtube videos, but we love it! (this is for the youngers, there is more for the olders)

This morning we watched subtraction and counting to 100 videos.

When I introduce new math concepts, e.g. long division, we go over it in our math program, and stumble along a bit, and then I have him watch the Khan vid on the topic (they seem to be about 10 minutes long). A couple days later we watch it together, again, and encourage him to tell me the steps. I sometimes turn down the volume.

The man has a pleasant, calm, conversational voice, and kiddo, a wiggly Willie if there ever was one, sits through it all, rapt.
