Sahamamama
If you have a motto for your school, or a favorite saying about education, what is it? :bigear: It could be anything from "Careful, consistent work needs to be done each day" (quoting JLD from this forum) to some famous saying on education. myfunnybunch
Quit poking your brother! Quit making weird noises! Quit poking your brother and making weird noises! ;) The real one: I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. ~Pablo Picasso Cat
JudoMom
(Last Name) Boys Academy est. 1999 Striving to keep our heads above our feet It's not as easy as it seems, evidently, when one is a boy, to literally keep your head above your feet. KatieH
I've always been partial to St. Benedict's "Ora et labora" :) Seems like a good motto for homeschooling, too!
milovany
I like Charlotte Mason's "I am, I can, I ought, I will" although I can't say it's an official motto for us or anything. We're more like Cat .... "Focus! Be quiet! Quit leaning back in your chair!" :001_smile:
Jen in PA
I just decided on ours last week, it's in my signature.
BigMamaBird
Not our official motto, but lately I've been saying "There is no can't" a lot lately. I have a first born who MUST get it on the first try or it's the end of the world.
Karen in CO
The fairest thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science. Albert Einstein Whatever you can do or dream, begin it. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Lao-tzu Little by little, one travels far. J. R. R. Tolkien my actual motto is in my sig line and has been the same for years. Edited January 30, 2011 by Karen in CO

Belacqua
It isn't an official motto (though how fabulous would it look on a transcript?), but in a family of over-cautious types, we often find ourselves reminding one another, "No one will die." Nobody ever died or was even maimed from a torn shirt, a poor grade on a Latin quiz, or a spilled glass of water.

2boysmom
In the younger years we had songs for each year, emphazing our school motto...(I have two boys/no girls) Our school's name was Lighthouse Academy Here's a sample: song for (K-2) Lighthouse a-cad-e-my I am so proud to be a beau-ti-ful light for all to see. Lighthouse a-cad-e-my For Him, A light I'll be I tell everyone about His love. (We started every school day with this song, It really helped get things started) Kind of like a pledge of allegiance. Grades 3-5: Lighthouse A-cad-e-my I will serve my neighbor joy-ful-ly I will do my best to be a student of ex-cel-lence I will seek my Lord with all my heart, my soul, my strength and then in honor I'll become the man God wants me to be. And finally: (grades 3-5, with a rap kind of beat) Charlotte mason style: Light......house (clap, clap, clap, clap, clap) A-cad-a-my I am, I am a child of God you see, I can, with God's power I ought, to do my duty I will, be a shining light and do what's right Oh, yeaaaaaaah! Now, after 6th we do nothing. It's sad...but my kids remember those songs well and have good memories of them, even if they were kinda dorky. I think they made us feel like a team and it started everything out on a good note. I miss those days...mmmm. maybe we should come up with a new song??? :)
Mommyfaithe
We joke that our motto is: "There is none good, no, not one."
