  1. We used to have a cat who did this from time to time. She would pee on clothes, towels, paperwork in our office...the worst was when she peed on a pile of napkins on the kitchen table - ugh! The weird thing about it was that it would wax and wane, and it always seemed to flare up in spring and fall. I asked our vet and she said that some cats are triggered by changing seasons and an increase or decrease in daylight hours. I can't remember the exact details because it's been several years, but I think she said it was due to hormonal fluctuations (even though our cat was spayed). Also, our cat had been an orphaned kitten that we bottle fed, and the vet said this problem is more common among cats with this background. Anyway, our cat eventually outgrew her peeing problem. She lived to be 18, and for the last several years of her life, she only peed in the litterbox. Sorry I don't have any great suggestions or solutions for you, but I wanted to let you know that there is a chance this behavior could disappear as your kitty gets older.
  2. I'm so sorry! It must be so frustrating and worrisome to not know what is causing this or how to make your daughter feel better. I hope she gets some relief soon!
  3. Teaching a hot yoga class. I have zero heat tolerance, and the thought of being in a hot room full of sweaty, stinky people makes me queasy.
  4. Podiatrist, because feet gross me out. Actually, being any kind of doctor or nurse would gross me out. I also couldn't stand being a teacher. Having been a classroom helper for years when my kids were in school, I know that I definitely do not have what it takes to deal with other people's kids on a daily basis.
  5. We have a big pear tree in our back yard and once a mama raccoon climbed up the tree with her litter of babies following right behind her. They sat in the tree and ate pears the whole afternoon. It was so cute (but I definitely would NOT want them in my house!)
  6. I know exactly what you mean because we're in the same boat. I have three teens and the lack of friends has been the hardest part of homeschooling for us. We've tried several activities and groups and none of them have led to lasting friendships. My kids also do not "click" well with most other kids that they've met. (My boys did make some friends at engineering camp, but they all live out of state. And my daughter has some penpals/online friends, but they also live far away.) Sending our kids to school is not an option. We pulled them out four years ago, mostly because of abysmal academics, but also because of bullying and other crummy peer group stuff. We live in a very rural area and all social activity for kids is centered on the school, and especially on school sports, which homeschoolers are not allowed to participate in. To make matters worse, there are only a handful of other homeschoolers in our area, and they are all much younger than my kids. Homeschooling is just starting to catch on here, and in a few years, there will probably be plenty of homeschooled high schoolers, but now there are literally none.
  7. I've had one ear infection as an adult. It was super painful for a day or so, but I waited it out and it did clear up on its own. A warm compress helps, as does putting drops of warm olive oil in the ear (a tip from my kids' doctor). Hope he feels better soon!
  8. I would see if they need help with yard work or any household tasks. If they're spending lots of time at the hospital, you could offer to bring their mail in, care for their pets, or take their garbage cans to the curb on trash day. You could also drop off a bag or two of groceries.
  9. I don't blame you for feeling uneasy. I would absolutely listen to your gut and schedule it earlier.
  10. We've never had bunkbeds for our kids, but my husband fell off one as a child and broke his collarbone. Also, our family doctor (who has since retired) used to warn parents against bunkbeds because he had seen so many kids get injured over the years.
  11. Chapstick. I can't function without it. My husband calls it my crackstick because I am so addicted to it. Sun Bum sunscreen. I'm out in the sun a lot with my horses and would be totally fried without it. OGX Awapuhi Ginger conditioner. It keeps my hair under control and smells so good!
  12. I am so sorry. Thinking of you and your family...
  13. My births were all unmedicated with long, hard labors. Honestly, the way I got through the last one (which we had decided would be our final kid) was to keep repeating to myself, "Once this is over, you never have to do this again!" That was my mantra LOL. I actually think it did make the pain more tolerable!
  14. I love the names Athena and Elsa (have loved that name since long before Frozen came along!) Anastasia is another favorite.
  15. Nope, I couldn't handle this. Maybe for a few nights, but six weeks? No way. I would be an exhausted mess and in no shape to be driving, especially that late at night.
  16. Eating frozen Snickers bars for breakfast. Riding my horse without a helmet. Laying out in the sun slathered in baby oil all summer long.
  17. The fact that she stayed with him so long (or even married him in the first place) makes me wonder if the marriage was more of a business arrangement. I feel really sorry for the poor child.
  18. Maybe an insect bite or sting?
  19. One of our dogs brought a dead bat into the house several months ago. Luckily, he and all our other pets were current on rabies vaccinations, but we weren't sure if the bat had been alive or dead when he got ahold of it and whether he may have been bitten by it. I called our vet to see if we needed to take any precautions. She had us put the bat in a ziploc bag and keep it cool (but not frozen) overnight. The next morning, I dropped it off at the vet's office and they arranged for the health dept. to pick it up and test it. Two or three days later, we got a call from the health dept. informing us that the bat was negative for rabies. So if you have a dog or cat that may have been exposed to the bat, you could give your vet a call. Ours was a huge help and made the whole process go much more smoothly than if we had tried to deal with the health dept. ourselves.
  20. Ours was $375 because it was so hot and humid. We have a fairly big house that we like to keep cool, and opening windows isn't an option for us because of allergies.
  21. I've tried many different brands and my absolute favorites are Champion Absolute Workout Pants. Super comfy!
  22. I'll second the recommendation for Gildan tees. I got some on clearance in the Walmart crafts section and liked them so much that I ended up buying a bunch more from Amazon. The cotton is nice and thick, the fit is comfortable and not too snug, and they come in a wide variety of pretty colors. Plus, they are very reasonably priced.
  23. Hung laundry up instead of using the dryer and used coupons to save several dollars on eggs, bacon, almond milk and salad dressing.
