  1. Not a show story, but one of my quarter horses did something really goofy the other day. This horse comes from a long line of championship-winning cow horses and has been working cows his entire life. He is also one of the most easygoing, laid-back horses I've ever met. But the other day he saw two baby calves and completely flipped out. Apparently, they were the most horrifying, blood-curdling monsters he had ever encountered. I could barely get him back to the pasture before he took off at a full gallop to the far side of the field to get away from those terrifying baby cows. Yep. horses can be very quirky and unpredictable. Sorry about your daughter's show! I hope she gets a chance to be in another one soon.
  2. Our political views are closely aligned and we have always voted for the same candidates. This year, we're both completely disgusted by the presidential candidates. DH may not even vote for president, for the first time ever. I am writing in a former candidate who would be an excellent leader for our country, IMO. Because of a very large city in our state, the Democrat presidential candidate always wins, so the votes of those of us in the rest of the state will have no effect whatsoever anyway.
  3. Well, I'm dumb enough to live where we have very cold winters and rattlesnakes! You would think the cold would chase the snakes away, but they just hibernate right through it. :glare:
  4. I don't blame you for being concerned. We live in rattler country and they can be very dangerous to people, pets and livestock. They used to come in our yard when I was a kid and my dad would shoot them. We "snake-proofed" our current yard by getting rid of the plant beds around our house where snakes liked to hang out. We replaced the beds with grass that we keep cut pretty short, and that seems to be working. I've heard that you can spray a sulfur snake repellent around your yard, but I've never actually seen it for sale anywhere.
  5. I used to love macaroni and cheese mixed with ketchup. Then I gave up grains and sugar, so now I don't eat either of those anymore.
  6. How old is your dd? Mine is 14 and we're in the same situation. We also live in a very rural area and almost all activities, sports, and clubs are through the schools. It's so frustrating! The only other homeschooled kids live about an hour away and are all much younger than her. Plus, when my dd does meet other kids her age, she feels like she has nothing in common with them. She likes reading, knitting, playing the violin, horses...none of the girls around here seem to share those interests. Luckily, she gets along very well with her brothers, but I know she would love to have some girl friends. It's definitely the biggest downside of homeschooling in a rural area. :(
  7. I'm so sorry! :grouphug: My brother died unexpectedly last year. It's so hard to lose someone who shared your childhood memories. :(
  8. I scramble in a bowl and add a bit of cream (instead of milk) and salt and pepper. I also use coconut oil instead of butter.
  9. Not rude. Since the boys are on the team, they are obligated to be at the game.
  10. 290 - yikes! In my defense, we live way out in the boonies with very few stores nearby, so I order most of our necessities. It's a rare day when we don't get at least one Amazon box!
  11. I'd always rather be safe than sorry with my animals, so I'd take him to the vet. If it's lasted this long and gotten worse, he probably needs medication. Hope he feels better soon!
  12. I'm so sorry, this must be so scary for you and her. :grouphug:
  13. Walmart's savings catcher is great. I've been using it for about two years and have gotten $735 back. It is so much easier than the hassle of checking ads and price matching.
  14. Huh, it never would have occurred to me to be upset about this. I've always thought that being able to wear yoga pants all day is one of the greatest perks of being a stay at home/work at home mom. :001_smile:
  15. I agree! Keeping my glass topped stove clean has never been a problem. Cleaning coils and drip pans was such a pain!
  16. Congratulations! So glad that your husband reacted so well! He sounds like a great dad. :001_smile:
  17. This ticks me off! That's my son's favorite magazine and I just got him a subscription for his birthday a few months ago. I think he's only received two issues so far. :(
  18. Scented fabric softener is yucky, too. Some people's clothes just reek of that stuff and I don't know how they can stand it!
  19. That is awful! How much land do the shooters have? We target shoot on our property, but we live way out in the country. We have 50 acres with no neighbors within a mile of us in any direction. My dad also lives way out in the country and people hunt in the woods behind his house. A few years ago, a bullet came through the wall of his house right into his living room. Fortunately, he wasn't home when it happened.
  20. I don't drink milk, I use almond milk in my iced coffee. Two of my kids like whole milk and the other kid and DH don't drink any type of milk.
  21. Once or twice a week, I make a big batch of roasted asparagus, roasted beets, sautéed mushrooms and mashed cauliflower to keep in the fridge for breakfast. And as others have already mentioned, we love to add lots of veggies to scrambled eggs. Onion, jalapeño, bell peppers, and broccoli w/ some shredded pepper jack cheese is our favorite.
