  1. Sabra had a recall because of listeria in 2015, too. I stopped buying it after that and have made my own hummus ever since.
  2. The staff at our vet's office is really good at finding homes for stray animals, litters of kittens, etc. If you stopped by several vet clinics, brought the dog with you, and explained your predicament, someone may know of a potential adopter. I would do that before taking a dog to a shelter.
  3. Animal chores School w/kids Clean my office Pay bills Investigate why fridge seems to be leaking water - ugh Call vet because two of my cats are snuffly & sneezy Dinner = homemade pizza
  4. I'm so sorry. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  5. I'd go for the big basement laundry room. That's what we have, with a laundry chute that I absolutely love. We keep most of our clothes down there, so the only things that need carrying up are towels and bedding.
  6. Maybe an hour, tops? I prefer simple decorations because too much clutter makes me claustrophobic. Outside, we string lights on the fence in front of the house and hang wreaths on the doors. Inside, we already have white twinkly fairy lights around the windows in our living room that stay up year round. We have some really pretty silver snowflakes that we've had for years that I think were made in Germany, and we hang those in some of the windows. On our mantle, we put miniature snowy/glittery evergreen trees and two small wooden reindeer. This year, for the first time ever, we got an artificial tree. I was sick of the mess that a real tree makes, and my DH is always paranoid about it starting on fire. So I found a very pretty fake tree that is prelit and the kids can put the ornaments on. The only thing I'll miss about a real tree is the smell, so I might have to go cut some evergreen boughs and bring them inside so that it smells like Christmas.
  7. I just use a regular bath towel, but if I'm in a hurry and need my hair dry fast, I use a handful of paper towels.
  8. Nope, my DH doesn't cook. I don't mind, that's my department. He and the kids do all the cleanup, however (not just on Thanksgiving, but every night).
  9. Good morning! Already fed my horses (it's very cold and windy here - brrr!) My plan for the rest of the day: relax and maybe do a little bit of organizing in the barn. Dinner will probably be takeout sushi.
  10. Ok, I really do not want to scare you, but I am going to tell you because you said you would like information. My mom went through a similar scenario right before she was diagnosed with cancer. She had been feeling very weak, fatigued, and lightheaded and went to the doctor. They did bloodwork and she got an urgent call saying her blood count was very low, they thought she was bleeding internally, and she needed a transfusion. She got the transfusion and they ran all kinds of tests over the course of a couple weeks. At first, they thought it might be an ulcer, then they did a colonoscopy, and finally they did an ultrasound and discovered she had a tumor in her abdominal area. It was lymphoma. I very much hope and pray that whatever is going on with your mom is much less serious, and I am so sorry if I stressed you out by telling you this. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  11. Same here! November weather has finally arrived. As we were walking into the grocery store today, the temp was in the 60's and the kids and I were talking about how it was almost too warm for a sweatshirt. An hour later when we came out, the temp had dropped at least ten degrees and the wind was howling. Now it's 41 degrees and there's a wind advisory and chance of snow tonight.
  12. A 19 lb. turkey needs to be thawed for 4-5 days in the fridge. I only have one oven and have cooked many Thanksgiving meals. Planning is key. Figure out what can be made the day before and reheated, and then make a schedule for the items that need to be made on Thanksgiving.
  13. DH and I own a small business. We provide health insurance for our employees and pay for the bulk of it. Price increases since the ACA took effect have been enormous, as has the amount of time that needs to be spent on insurance paperwork (in the form of endless forms and questionnaires from the government). All of our employees have spouses and kids, and everyone is healthy with no major illnesses or long term health problems. The monthly cost for each family is between $1200 - $2000. For DH, our three kids, and myself, we are paying $1920 per month - so it is not surprising to me at all that Moxie is paying $1500/month. Our insurance agent warned us that price increases will probably be even steeper next year (but that was before the election, so who knows what will happen with the ACA now). We believe that providing insurance is important and helps us to retain quality employees. However, the huge increase in price means that we now have less money to put towards salary increases for our workers. I've talked to many other business owners who are in the same exact situation. It really stinks.
  14. Day 2 of a migraine. Ugh. Kids need to get lots of school done today Grocery shopping Maybe ride horses if we can find the time Officework, pay bills Dinner=leftovers
  15. Good morning! Floor people were supposed to be done yesterday, but still have a bit to finish up today - so a few more hours of disruption. The floors look beautiful! Animal chores Post office Take dog to vet for the senior panel bloodwork she needs in advance of her dental cleaning Hopefully, the kids will be able to get some school done this afternoon Dinner=salmon burgers
  16. I'm so sorry. I hope she is able to pull through. :grouphug:
  17. I think you are doing the right thing. Several of our dogs have had cancer over the years and we have never chosen to do chemo. Regardless of cost, I just could never stand the thought of making a dog suffer through that. With our dogs, my personal belief has always been that the minute they stop enjoying life, it is time to put them to sleep. It is such a hard thing to do, but having them linger on in pain is much worse, IMO. Your dog is very blessed to have an owner who obviously loves him very much. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  18. I doubt the rinks want to have a rule requiring helmets, but they are forced to have them in order to protect themselves from people who will sue at the drop of a hat. They may be required to have these rules in order to get liability insurance.
  19. Good morning! Floors should be done today - yeah! Looking forward to getting my house back in order. Feed animals Grocery shopping Bank Book store w/ kids Pick up pizzas for dinner DD violin lesson
  20. We are taking a couple days off of school because our floors are getting refinished. Between the workers and our dogs barking at all the commotion, our house is going to be loud! Ride horses Run errands - go to post office Clean out basement closet & declutter holiday decoration bins Get takeout for dinner
  21. The poster wasn't protecting her son from the realities of menstruation, she was protecting him from a gross mess made by his sister. The adult daughter was allowing the trash to overflow. her used hygiene products were spilling onto the floor, and the mom didn't think her son should have to clean it up. It wasn't like the trash was neatly contained in the can and she was balking at her son taking it out.
  22. My 16 y.o. DS (who loves superheroes, comic books & action figures) recommends bigbadtoystore.com
  23. We put HotHands hand warmers in our gloves when we do chores. That keeps us warm even when it's below zero.
  24. Yes, neutered male animals will sometimes still react to a female in heat. My horses are all geldings and a few of them get totally crazy when they're around a mare in heat. Poor guys still think that they're stallions! Spaying your female cat will probably take care of the problem.
  25. Done: Long trail ride w/ kids (beautiful, perfect weather!) Picked up Subway for lunch Still to do: Give DS a haircut Write a few cards/notes Plan my week Figure out dinner
