  1. I haven't delt personally with Army but with Navy they'd wouldn't tell you to send your child into foster care. They will work with you and try to help you so you can deploy out. She should have started looking at other alternitives for her child. Since it says she skipped out on the flight she is at fault and should be charged for missing it. I cannot feel sorry for those who skip out deployments, no excusses IMO
  2. I was able to send my a book that was in a binder. I had taken it apart and put it in page protectors. One post lady gave me a hard time (she's a PIA anyways) but the guys let me mail it. It depends on who's behind the counter, IMO
  3. will have to check it out before we leave for our new duty station. We haven't been to the science museum but have gone to the children's museaum. My daughter is currently reading the Potter books, good timing for us.
  4. we are going workbook route after this week do to travel plans for the next three months. I am using A Beka for science and history. I already had my daughter work in some of the chapters and it's going well. Nice for those 'quick' school days that we tend to have while traveling. I personally cannot go w/o some type of schooling and I have done lifepacs in the past but Ireally like the A Beka stuff
  5. I didn't know about WWE when my oldest did FLL but I have a program with the other stuff too and she would do it. Since I have little ones I have to do many short lessons throughout the day so it didn't seem like much for her. Now for my son if he stays they way he is in learning for the new year then I am just going to do FLL because adding more would be too much for him.
  6. I don't use a writing program. We do practice quite a bit. I started out big. Like lets paint the letters, 'draw' the letters, letter breadsticks. Inside and outside learning the letters with anything and everything. I am now teaching my son to be more formal with his letters. Keeping them within the lines and paying more attention to detail. I will stand/sit next to him while he writes his letters and if one isn't written nicely/correctly I will erase it and have him do it again. We do offical handwriting at least twice a week.
  7. We will not have a tree up at our house. We are spending the holidays with family. It's going to be nice not having to deal with getting the tree out and hunting for decortaions, we at Christmas so even if we didn't goto family we were not going to put it up, I have a little opticl lights tree that I thought about putting up
  8. I had a curriculum but have stopped and now just focus on math and reading and writing. My Ker does tag along with big sister when she is reading outloud from her history books.
  9. It would be nice to have two copies for some books because I see to always be peering over my daughter's shoulder. I read her books first so I now know what words she will have a few issues with but I still try to look over her shoulder while reading.
  10. A Child's Geography volume one along with books from the library. I didn't use the CD that came with it because the postcards that you could print out were too small.
  11. RVing homeschoolers are out there but not too easy to find. We are not full timers, yet. First off is what are they going to two with? You cannot just tow a 5th with any old truck. We have a Chevy 1500 Silveraldo and tow with a 25' hybrid. We have seen some 5ths being made to be towed by this type of truck but they are tiny, IMO. Do they want a slide? Ours don't Is storage a big concern? It's more than our pop up but still less from an A or 5th and some of the other TTs out there but fine for us. I recommend they go to a RV show to check things out, even if they plan on buying used. Campgrounds are starting to have WiFi either throughout the campground or in certain parts of the campgrounds. Paying the bills in done by bill pay or setting up auto payments. It is what we do. It's nice not having to worry about monthly bills while traveling. Privacy is gonna be something that just won't be easy. Right nowquiet times they just stay in their bunks and read or play quietly. Hubby and I have a curtain to close our bed. Maybe just have them spread out thru the RV or outside around the camping space? I think it's an awesome idea if they can follow thru with it. We were preparing to live in our camper this spring because hubby was going to VA to a ship. While he was out to sea I was going to travel with the kids. Now we have packed up the RV and wont see it for three years because now hubby is going overseas.
  12. Mine children have all been to funerals at young ages. My 9 year old was about 6 when my grandma died. She drew a picture and put it in the casket. All three where there when my MIL passed too. I did stay in the back of the room and went into the hallway to let them run a bit. The younger two were 2 and 3 whe MIL passed. Just explain in simple terms what is going on and bring paper and crayons. If possible let him see the kids before he passes. I think its a good thing. We knew someone who wouldn't take their child too see grandpa before he died and she was upset the she didn't get to see him before he passed. They waited until he passed and then drove her down to see him.
  13. you are not alone, my 5 year old is still stuck on blending. He knows his letters/sounds but when it comes to blending we stop. I sometimes want to bang my head on the wall. I didn't teach my oldest, her K teacher did so I did't think it be this hard. Some days are better than others. I am using 100 EZ Lessons with him but I used the BOB books too and magnet letters.
  14. My my infant niece I am making a cross-stictch baby blanket. I am turning it into a wall hanging. Fingers are crossed it will be done by Christmas.
  15. a pat on the back for your son. I am using dication for the first time this year for my 9 year old. It's been 3 months but still not much improvment. She doesn't do copywork.
  16. My son had a hernia down there and no one knew he had it. It was a few years ago, he's 5 now. His pain came all of the sudden and I though appendix and they said hernia. He was drugged and the dr. moved 'things' around and my son was comfortable. We took him home and the next morning he had surgery to fix the hernia. He was running around and playing right before it happend.
  17. I have not use this program but a friend of mine has with three of her children and now her sister now uses it. They both really like the program. On busy days you can just go thru the workbooks and add to it on the slower days. To me it sounds similar to Lifepacs and I used those for 1st and 3rd grade.
  18. http://www.artprojectsforkids.org/ is use this for art or just go to the libray and pick out art books. If it's just for drawing I have the Draw Write Now and Draw thru History ( I think that's it). For us it's a fun subject and not high on the list what they should learn. just the basics for us.
  19. she has a spelling notebook that she writes the rules down. Maybe just have her review more of her notes?
  20. when should it be getting beter? My daughter is 9 and will be 10 in the spring. Today she wrote out her version of Cinderella. Quite a few of her words are still spelled wrong. She spells them how they sound instead of the correct way. When is she going to improve on this? I amhave been doing lists for the past few years and this year I hav switched to dictation. I am wondering if I am doing it right. For dictation she just studies the passage and then I tell her the passage. If she gets any of it wrong she continues until she can write the passage without spelling errors. Now I have read that you are to correct while the child is writing and secondly I have read you correct afterwards. I am a horrible speller so I really don't want my children to be bad spellers. I am using the dictations from Preparing Hearts For His Glory and last year I used Rod and Staff Grade 3. TIA for anyhelp/advice
  21. While I do love some of the perks of USAA it is a bummer not to have a branch locally so I have the other one, NavyFed (it's nice to have the same bank where ever you go). Also their insurance don't cover motorcycles. Other than that they do have wonderful customer service and direct deposit is great. So if you can join, I highly recommend them.
  22. I would love to have those in my home but we are in housing. None of that stuff is allowed.
