  1. interesting to see my post from six months ago. We were planning on putting the kids in DoD and now that we are here, I am planning another year of homeschooling put may be using the school for their library and testing and speech therapy. Since we have to enroll for the speech therapy might as well take advantage of their library and testing.
  2. Sadly quite a few parents don't want to take on the responsibility. They want the school to teach about it. Our school talked about it but it was more about STDs you get from it. It was recommended to go to Planned Parenthoold to get the condoms. I remember paying a few dollars for a dozen condoms in high school at Planned Parenthood. Also not many parents want to the one this against it.
  3. 3 is really an odd number. my son is sandwhiched between his sisters. Though hubby says he gets the pick of older sister friends or younger sister friends. So a guy thing. anyways we can no longer have biological children so we are paving a path to adopt more. possibly a sibling group
  4. My second child was born a month before deployment and my third was born a few months after that same deployment. So wasn't planned
  5. I just switched from Singapore's Earlybird math to Math U See and my son and daughter really enjoy it. They like to watch Mr. Steve and go right into the workbook and play with the blocks. For extras I have flashcards, counting bears, bag of beans, clock, and measuing spoons and cups. The last time I used Lifepacs for 1st grade and it went well too but I like the one subject at a time approach. Since I swithed my oldest she is doing much better so I hope MUS works for my younger two.
  6. My DD is 5 and just loves that book and of course the movies that go with it. Now she 'reads' it to me. She's not quite a reader yet so it's more from what she's heard from the story and the movie
  7. Sports and clubs are big in our family. It really is the only time the children are away from me. They learn teamwork and to listen to other adults. I am not a sports or athletic person so this is perfect for me. We are struggling a bit right now because the activites are getting expensive for the three ($40-$80) a child and because of where I live I would have to drive a hour to and from the activity because they don't offer much here because there are no parent volunteers and I am not a take charge person outside the home to become a parent coach.
  8. I have the book (whole set) and I wouldn't recommend it. I am 30+ and I skimmed over the racy parts. Do you really need that in a book?
  9. Being in the military was one of my arguing moments with hubby on why we should homeschool. Thankfully having a stupid priciple (who no longer is a principle) helped with us homeschooling. It does make moving and vacation time so much easier. No everyone can take leave during the school holidays and not everyone can PCS in the summer. It's nice to take off to visit the grandparents or take a break when they come to visit. We are also like that we can just take off last moment to go do something out in town.
  10. I got that here (Japan). The mom's are like what about YOUR time, you never get it. What about support? I just don't think they get it. I am the weird mom who stays home all day with her kids.
  11. www.aaamath.com. you can get math families there. I ended up buying children's placemats from Wal-mart or Target with the facts and put them on the wall in our school corner.
  12. I really need to get off here and wash the floors, finish organizing my bedroom, clean the bathrooms and prepare for a unschooling week ( we are done!) It's just so hot and I cannot figure out my controllers for the A/C because it's in a different language.
  13. We currently drive a 10 yo Nissian that is surprisenly still in decent shape. We have a fully loaded Chevy Silverado and hubby just loves the thing. I did own a Chrystler mini van. It's okay I do like the stow and go option and it did great on cross country trips. We gave it to a family member and we are saving upfor the biggest Chevy SUV. I forgot the name of it. It's going to be my new 'van' and make long camping trips more comfortable for a family of five and three dogs.
  14. My son enjoys the books. What ever gets him to wanna be read to or have him read hiself I am going to buy or check out of the library.
  15. I feel off having three children and would love to have more but it's not going to happen.
  16. We are doing a semester with Gamma. Right now its daily drills with different activites and shes doing a lesson a day or every two days.
  17. I am open about what I use. When you walk into my home you can see what I use on the bookshelf next to my dining room table.
  18. I wasn't able to play sports and stuff as a kid due to money. Hubby grew up playing sports. He wants our children to try out all the sports and see which ones they like the best. Where we are currently living 85% of school age kids are taking some sort of after school club or sport. No one is home and this makes it difficult. So I suck it up and shell out the almost $150 a sport not including the equitment needs for my children to be in these activities.
  19. We are on a military base and for my family I can buy tickets, drinks and snacks for $20. We go everyother weekend when they are playing a child friendly movie. Back in the states it was around $50 for all that just for two.
  20. My daughter enjoys reading them and will read them in a day if I let her. I get them from the library. Not every book needs to have a purpose. I have a whole bookshelf of what I call book candy that I enjoying reading.
  21. I could have written your post. While I haven't pulled the HSing plug but if things don't turn around the following year they will go to school. I just shelled out $2000 (shiiping about killed me) for our fall curriculum and am not about to turn back this year. I have no advice but to say you are not alone.
  22. I toss the work after the year test results come back.
  23. Hubby and I can take a shower within 10 minutes. I will take a little longer on my shaving days. I am trying to get my preteen to shower in 10 minutes as well.
