  1. Dunno, I haven't read his stuff. But I wonder how so many people and organizations can discount 40 years worth of research.
  2. Wow, I'm always glad to find this kind of stuff. The first half he discusses sociological studies concerning the connection between external reward motivators and performance in relation to creative thinking. The second half moves toward a contrast with modern business management practices, but the information is still relevant.
  3. Unfortunately, I have to agree with this. I've been working for a fairly large company for the past ten years. I was hired by a small local company that was then taken over by my current company. I make a decent living with benefits (for the next week anyway), but I would never be hired back (fine with that) because I never finished my degree (no regrets) even though I have more experience than almost anyone they will hire to take my place. Our society cattle marches people through the system. My feeling, teach my kids to jump through hoops IF necessary, but avoid or walk around them otherwise. Frankly, I would argue the most creative people generally avoid the homogeneity of "the system".
  4. http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2010/08/22/why-are-college-students-studying-less What's your view on why students study less?
  5. Certainly, and I'm not condemning Christians. Just jerks like this. I have a lot of friends that are Christian, and my kids are at a Christian camp as I type this, and I go to an Episcopal Church (sometimes).
  6. Can you believe this garbage? It drives me crazy when I hear of people like this associating themselves with Christianity. http://www.gainesville.com/article/20100819/ARTICLES/8191045
  7. Certainly you will see results if you work thoughtfully and hard. Don't kill yourself every time or you'll wear your body down. I've always felt you should focus more on the process than the goal. The results may be slow to come and if you don't enjoy the process, then it will require tons of will to work through it. And frankly (I know we're not talking about diet), the final attainment of the goal is the reason most people relapse after dieting or quit working out after a goal is achieved. They achieved their goal but never enjoyed the process in the first place.
  8. Those are my favorite places to shop. It astounds me how many people don't buy marked down meats because they think they're bad. Thanks, I'll take it.
  9. Well, if you like to eat baby animals, I'd go with the veal.

  11. Thanks for the post, quite valuable information. At some point, I'll certainly start putting deadlines into our project development.
  12. It's a few days old, but the comments are still open. Let 'em have it. Most of the highly recommended posts are critical of the author's decision. http://parenting.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/08/17/deciding-to-home-school/
  13. I'd rather spend billions on foreign aid than wars and unnecessary military expenditures.
