My DD does like the workbook and would like to use them for 5th grade. It is also on the list of maybes. I can make it simple, read and answer questions or just write a summer of what the section/chapter was about. We can add books from the library and research more on the internet.

1st grade done and simple
NavyWifeandMommy replied to NavyWifeandMommy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I did lifepacs for 1st grade for DD1 and there was no way she could do it herself. It was between ACE and Lifepacs and I have decided on ACE because it's a bit cheaper and my son likes comics. He will still listen on his big sisters subjects, she does the 'fun' stuff (science and history) in the afternoons and he has to listen to the books. He still is only a hour a week a day and it will only be a hour maybe hour and a half for 1st grade. -
okay so it's simple and open and go but my son will be doing ACE for 1st grade. I did a box curriculum for 1st and it went well. Two children done, one more to go.

the focus is more on history than science, imo. It does tie in together and my daugther loves preparing. I am also torn between the following guide and with SOTW.

My gameplan but nothing isn't for sure until we actually start the year LA-Rod and Staff or A.C.E. Math-MCP or TT History-SOTW series Science-Christian Kids Explore Science and Aplogia Science Latin-for fun This would be the publisher's I'd use but not for sure. For now while I am not a huge fan of Preparing Hearts For His Glory my oldest is really enjoying the program and may just scrap my game plan and go with HOD's next level.

Ordering a yearly test for an overseas addy
NavyWifeandMommy replied to NavyWifeandMommy's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
that is who I have used in the past and when I emailed them they told me that they won't mail it to my FPO addy. (I think it's the ship that is APO) I have used them for two years now. I will have to email them again and ask. -
Do you own an RV/camper?
NavyWifeandMommy replied to Ann@thebeach's topic in General Education Discussion Board
http://denofmamabear.blogspot.com/2009/06/our-camper-2006-antiqua-camper.html This is our home on wheels. I have done tents as a child and once as a teen and hated it. My hubby loves tents. Our first year here he bought the very basic of pop ups. really cheap to see how I would like it. A year later we bought this and was sooo worth it. The bath area is small but we mostly use the campground because we don't get full hook. It doesn't slide out which is fine because we are outside most of the time. It's great to go visit family because we have our own space. Unfortatally she will be sitting for three years while we are living overseas due to hubby's orders. I am already counting down to the day we return because we are taking her to the Grand Canyon when we return. This model isn't sold anymore but a few years ago hubby and I saw some really nice models for the larger families. I could fit 13 into my camper. When we go to Grand Canyon we will have 7 maybe 10 people in the camper. -
Planning for 4th grade. HELP, Please
NavyWifeandMommy replied to cin's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I am using Rod and Staff Spelling and A Reason For Handwriting for handwriting. I don't enforce the handwriting because she gets lots of writing during the day but she likes the verses and to color the pages at the back of the book and send them off to the grandparents. -
Need help find a science curriculum for next year
NavyWifeandMommy replied to hsmom's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I like the looks of NEO but it's just plain $$, maybe for my oldest but not for my 1st. I own just about every Magic School Bus book so I am going to go thru those with him and order some of the MSB kits out there. I did this with my oldest and she enjoyed it. I also have Real Sciene 4 Kids PreChem from my oldest that I will use with him too. -
I am sticking with the BOB books since I have a few sets. I am currently using it with my son but my daughterisn't far behind on the learn to read route. She loves the little books so they are here to stay. I have a lots of level/step one and two books that we read together.

Ordering a yearly test for an overseas addy
NavyWifeandMommy replied to NavyWifeandMommy's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Comes to me and we do it and I mail it back. For our annual. Here you have to test or portfolio. I was told to send it to my parents and have them overnight it. I am just not sure I want to go that route, what if it gets lost. or get back late. I think there is a two week window after you recieve that test. -

What do you do for standardized test prep?
NavyWifeandMommy replied to monalisa's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
This is what I have done with my daughter. -
We will be living overseas and the place I buy my yearly tests won't mail to a military addy. The Dods over there test in March but that is just too soon for us to test thru the schools. We normally test in June after we finish school. What companies would mail tests overseas? Over where I am going there are no rules to homeschooling so I don't have to test but it's a personal requirement from hubby to test.

1st grade curriculum help (CLE? ACE? AOP? Other?)
NavyWifeandMommy replied to sinaknows's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I haven't used CLE or ACE but have used AO Lifepacs for first grade. That is all my DD did for 1st and did well on her yearly test.(90s). It was nice to have the TMs for each subject and you can go ahead in different subjects unlike my combined TM I have now. I have been told that CLE is very similar to the lifepacs but cheaper. I am going to be using ACE's Language Arts portions and AO's Horizons math for my 1st grader. -
I feel like a headless chicken at times too. This year I am offically teaching 2 with tagalong #3. This year's goal was to get my oldest to do more independent work and during those times I will teach my son. I even found some print outs for my son to do independently so I can work with the youngest. It last about 10 minutes but that is all I need to give her a bit of help on numbers/writing. Next year I am doing math and langauge seperatly and the rest together as a family.

WWYD if homeschooling became illegal?
NavyWifeandMommy replied to Sahamamama's topic in General Education Discussion Board
They'd be going back to school and I would be that PIA parent that make sures they are getting the best education out the school they are attending. Then I would support the people that would be trying to make homeschooling legal again. -
What pre-preschool curriculum to buy dd?
NavyWifeandMommy replied to MomtoCandJ's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
For preschool, I used the leap frog videos, Little Hands To Heaven and Before Five In A Row. I also have tons of preschool games and craft stuff. Mine would be entertained with playduh for what seemed forever and the videos were great for when I worked with my oldest and didn't want interuptions.
