Pioneer/Amish inspired dresses
NavyWifeandMommy replied to Hunter's Moon's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I like the same style too but it's difficult to find now days. I had a friend that sewed. Too bad we are no longer neighbors. I am just gonna have to suck it up and pull out the dusty sewing machine. Skirts are more my thing. -
Another one bites the dust
NavyWifeandMommy replied to NavyWifeandMommy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I live outside the states in a military community. Being in a miltary community 90% attend the DoD schools. There is no group near us and yes I have tried the group but it did not work out. We been keeping touch with homeschooling friends but one by one they have been starting to put their kids in school and two HSing friends we met here decided to sent them DoD school. I would like to have my children have friends that are both homeschooled and public/private. We hardly see other homeschoolers unless we are on base which isn't often. Just be nice to be yea another homeschooling family to hangout with and not oh they are the homeschooling family living here. -
okay so there can be a better title but it's how I feel at the moment. I am already feeling like an outcast for homeschooling. More and more of my friends are no longer homeschooling. They are putting them back in. Of course it's different for everyone and hey we almost did it but we are sticking thru HSing. It's hard and harder now that I am a single parenting for the next year or so but the outcome is so worth it. I am now at four who are no longer homeschooling and it sounds as my children get older it we be fewer yet. I guess homeschooling the younger ages are more popular than the older. I am not on the older side yet but will be soon so maybe my views will be different then. Just feeling a little lonely because it's one less thing we have in common and it was nice to have that part in common because honestly I don't have much in common with the families here.

It's our first year and I dont think my son's den it gonna do it. For one it says not to solicitate in our community and we are not allowed to go outside the gates to sell either because we are in a different country and they have thier own scouts that sell outside the gates. If they decided to do it I will order one or two things from my son's and of course from my girls then we will ship it off to daddy who is deployed. Most people in his shop are single so they will enjoy bunch of overpriced goodies.

Help! Can I use FLL 1/2 with the new version workbooks?
NavyWifeandMommy replied to gfengel's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I am sticking with the older version FLL 1/2. There isn't that much of a difference to me to order the newer books. The older version worked fine with my oldest and will do for my younger children as well. I will be using FLL 1/2 two more times after this school year. -
do you have posted "School Rules"?
NavyWifeandMommy replied to mindygz's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I have the book 21 Rules of this House. I no longer have the book but still have the poster on my door and we go over them once a week. -
for our family size I was told the average is $800 a month. there are five of us for now. Another will be here hopefully in a year or so. I tend to spend about $600 but try to make it cheaper but I don't have other stores to shop at. I either buy at base or I have to change currency and shop locally which cost even more. There are days I miss Food Lion or WalMart.

NavyWifeandMommy replied to PollyOR's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
My oldest is a preteen and doesn't have a FB account but her cousin who is the same age is. and oh my. This girl swears quite abit but so does her mom and dad. She's always talkin about boys and stuff I really didnt talk about until I was in high school. Her mom is friends with her so she knows all that is on FB. Some of it I just cannot believe she allows her preteen to say on FB. -
Homeschool "impostors"
NavyWifeandMommy replied to Jenny in GA's topic in General Education Discussion Board
a little late in the game but I did know am family that did lie and say they homeschooled. they did it because their child kept getting in trouble at school and skipping. they were getting threaten by the school to have the police involved and shortley after that mom called up and withdrew her child from the school and say they were homeschooling. While I never went to their house I will be money that curricula was never bought. They did it to stay out of trouble and of course they lived in a state that has no regulations what so ever over homeschooling. Because of this family my husband says that every state should have homeschoolers register and do yearly portfolios or testing. He says that if they families are truely homeschooling then they shouldn't have nothing to worry about. I think he is right. I think all states should have some time of regulations like the letter of intent and yearly portfoilios. -
My Kindergartener wants to try public school
NavyWifeandMommy replied to corbie's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
one of mine wanted to go to school because of friends going. I have the only elementry kids at home in my neighborhood. I explained our days compared to PS days. He still wanted to go. I told him he have to get up early and that sealed the deal on staying home. -

AWANA - am I being unreasonable?
NavyWifeandMommy replied to scubamama's topic in General Education Discussion Board
that's a good enough reason for not helping. It's what I use when my kids are signed up for their extras. I tell everyone that one of the reasons my children are signed up is so I can take breaks. I have them all day long and even if I do stick around to watch I am not in charge of them and it's my mental break. they should be understanding of the situation. -
What do you say when people ask you...?
NavyWifeandMommy replied to desertmum's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I say we homeschool when asked but if it's an educational person (teacher or another who works in the system) snub me off or say how well the kids would do in the school because it's such a low teacher-student ratio (which is true). -
s/o how about your sils.....
NavyWifeandMommy replied to Remudamom's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I really don't know my SIL that well but the same goes for my BIL too. We don't live near them to get to know them. She is also 19 while I am 32. I would love to be near her and give her a hand. She is a young wife and mother the same as the cousins and friends. I am older and my baby thru preschool days are behind me now. In less than 10 years we will be out of the service and move closer to them and then I will be the aunt who spoils her children. Hard to do right now since we are halfway around the world. -
a ? for the military families
NavyWifeandMommy replied to hornblower's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I love men in uniform and my husband is the best of them all. Okay so every military wife says that bout her husband. It never gets old and I miss the crackerjacks. My husband advanced a few years ago and he no longer wears them. He got married in them so they are my absolute favorite. The new ones aren't bad and we are talking about renewing our vows and he'll wear his new dress uniform. -
S/O: how far are you from a hospital?
NavyWifeandMommy replied to Rivka's topic in General Education Discussion Board
The closest military hospital is 60 minutes away. We do have a hospital down the street but it's not military friendly since I am overseas. Though if it is truely a life threatning emergancy I would go tothe one down the steet and then they can transfer meto the base hospital. -
Do you pre-read your kids books?
NavyWifeandMommy replied to TKDmom's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I started to pre read my daughter's book but it got too much. I wasn't able to get to my books or have other extra me stuff because I kept trying to read all her books for 4th and into 5th. I have stopped and will trust the publisher I buy from knowing that the books are better than the ones she'd get at a bookstore
