WWE and A Reason for Handwriting... is it too much??
NavyWifeandMommy replied to missesd's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I don't use a writing program. I used A Reason For Writing awhile back but the repeated verses over and over was quickly boring as they got older. With them writing in other areas throughout the day, I dropped it. I expect them to write their work neatly. My DD11 has had her papers thrown out by me or havea big fat X on the papers returned to her. I won't except poorly written work. My younger two 6 n 7 have to write neatly or I will erase their work have them rewrite it. I found a free handwriting site by just googling and I will use that for extra practice. I also kept the back pages from ARFH so they can write their verses neatly and color the pictures. I am using FLL everyday and WWE twice a week plus their daily copying of their verses. -

How do I keep him from being.... odd?!
NavyWifeandMommy replied to Mynyel's topic in General Education Discussion Board
good to hear that my son isn't the only 'odd' one too. mine is the same way. -
While it can be dry and boring it has worked on my first two children and I am now using it with my youngest school aged child. I sometimes make up worksheets to go with what they learned and use it has their independent work. it is fun for them to do this because their big sister goes to her desk and do her own work and now they do. I will also use a silly voice in memorizing the sentences and just make up little impromtu games to help learn. some stuff I do move on if they know it. I did levels one thru four and now using level one for the third time and level two for the second time.

What do you use for reading practice with OPGTR?
NavyWifeandMommy replied to lea1's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I have used the BOB books and the Frog and Toad series. Right now my son is reading Magic Tree house but he is using OPGTR more for review. My youngest who is using the guide reads the Bob Books and helps out reading the level books. some words are still big for her and we are only on lesson 30something with her. -
I have had a friend with a service dog and he wore his working uniform while on duty. it also said he was a service dog. Don't all service pets have something they wear when 'working'. I like the idea of having a card for proof too. I think the manament could have told the man to put the dogs on the floor. so not right to have them on the table. gross.

"What are we doing today?"-- a vent
NavyWifeandMommy replied to aelgraham's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
I get that but with my younger ones. "I'm bored. or "What can I do?" I have tons of educational stuff they are to mess with while teaching the oldest but they think their friends are having fun over at the school and they think they should have fun all day too. If they cannot play DS, Wii or watch a movie while playing with their non school toys they seem lost. We been at this routine for about a month now with everything pretty much the same each day nothing new anytime soon. Thankfully my oldest has quite bit more work than they do she don't have time to complain. -
Anyone using Apologia Anatomy?
NavyWifeandMommy replied to Paisley Hedgehog's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
I will be using it for my 6th grader in January. She will have the notebook journal as well. She will be doing it on her own with tagalong little brother and sister. I think it will be a bit easy (experiments) buy my husband says that is okay as long as she is learning. She will get harder stuff when she is older and off to community college but even in collage the science was easy n fun for me. -
Rant: New Girl Scout Badge Books
NavyWifeandMommy replied to AuntPol's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Lucky you. I would love to have the Cadette Binder so we could plan a bit better. Right now we have the MEdia and Breathe Journey books and will use those this year. This way everyone gets their Journey done with out hopefully repeating Journey. Our Troop does Cadette and up while the other Troop does Juniors and down. -
Rant: New Girl Scout Badge Books
NavyWifeandMommy replied to AuntPol's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Not thrilled with the new way GS is headed. I have been involved with GS since my now Cadette was a Daisy. We are just going to have to make the best of it. We were able to get some of the old badges and thegirls are going to work towards those as well. Unfortatally only 2 want to get the Silver, the others are there moslty for social reasons. -

I think I may be a bit too much in this department for my kiddos. I have First Language Lessons, Writing with Ease, Explode the Code, Ordindary Parents Guide to Teaching reading and My Father's World 1st grade. it's been a long first week and half with all this for my 6 year old 1st grade and 7 year old 2nd grader.

Cub Scouts vs. the nonreligious family
NavyWifeandMommy replied to jenn-'s topic in General Education Discussion Board
My child's Den doesn't enforce anything religous. We are the only Christian family in my son's den. Everyone does seem to pray. Some to one God and some to many Gods. Somewhere is says even it the person prays to the Tree outside, it is a form of belief. -
Where do we fit in?

could just be one of those days. sometimes you just wanna be a bum. I personally don't spend more than 5 minutes on appearances. Hair is up, no make-up and only have 4 outfits plus a church going outfit. usually once a month will live in my sweats n Ts for about 3 days for comfort reasons.

punctuality is important
NavyWifeandMommy replied to SeekingSimplicity's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My DH is the 5 minutes early is on time and on time is late. Unfortatally our real world never runs ontime. The only thing that I can count on around here are the bus and train schedules and the school bell. other than that everything is alway 5 or 10 mintues past the so called starting time.
