  1. I have a friend who is looking for an on-line writing course or tutor for the summer. Her son will be starting Running Start (community college for high schoolers) in the fall and needs help with his writing. I don't think they have worked on writing much, so a review of basics through a five paragraph essay would be great. Any suggestions? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Thank you for the responses. They were very helpful!:001_smile:
  3. I have R&S 3. Thought is was great but didn't really see a lot of wrtiting. Now I see that writing comes later. I also see from examples that grammar exercises lead up to writing assignments. I really like this. What I can't see from the examples is how larger assignments are broken up. My dd needs hand holding through a report or essay or research paper. Does it take it one step at a time? (showing how to take notes, how to record notes, how to organize notes, etc...) That's the kind of stuff we need. Thanks for the thread!
  4. My dd went straight from MM6 to Foerster's in 7th with no problem. She did do Life of Fred Pre-A as a transition over the summer.
  5. For those that use Notability, how do you get it to bookmark? I read that it automatically goes back to the page you left off on. That hasn't been my experience. I have to scroll through tons of pages to get where I left off. Thanks!
  6. We just got an Ipad. I do love it. However, I haven't given up my laptop yet. I am on the lap top now. I can type faster on it. I could get a keyboard for the Ipad, but that's another $70. The other thing is that I can't get my Ipad to print. I know there's a way, but again that means more $. That being said. I still love my Ipad so much, I'm thinking about getting a 2nd gen one for my kids. I have to fight to get on it! Good luck with your decision. We were in the same dilemma recently. We knew we needed another laptop or an Ipad. A relative that works in technology told us touch screen is the future. We took his advice and went for it. I have to say though, that I am not very high tech in general. I can't text to save my life! But, the Ipad is very intuitive to use. HTH
  7. I meant "type" - something I apparently need practice on!:) I've gone app crazy. Got a ton of stuff and figured it out. Notability is great. Haven't quite figured out how to use Evernote yet. I LOVE Pages.
  8. I need to be able to tape some notes that I can cut and paste onto a web site. Is this possible on the IPad? Do I need Pages? Or could I use a note taking app? :001_smile:
  9. So far, we like stack the states, cargo bot, pres vs aliens... It's been hard to post since my kids want it all the time! I will post again in a couple of days to update. Thanks to those who have posted previously. It. has been a great help.
  10. My dd did LL1 and most of 2. We then discovered Latin Alive w/DVD. She's understanding things much more. She does it all on her own. She's almost done and we will be moving on to Latin Alive 2. The dvd's are expensive, but it's worth it for us. She's beyond the point where I can help her. The dvd's are not entertaining, but they explain things very clearly. It is still cheaper than an on-line class, which I would have had to do w/o LA.
  11. Thanks Kristina, That looks great but a little more $ than I had in mind. Also, these two girls are not really my Lego kids. I actually have to force them to do science. My oldest would love it! Maybe I should just get a basic science kit?
  12. We are doing REAL Science Odyssey (Life) with our 1st and 5th grader. We have gotten to a point where we really need warmer weather to continue. So, I thought we would take a break and do a unit study for a month or two. I would really like to do something different. I was thinking of physics (We have The Way Things Work game). I would love to do something with computer science or energy, or maybe a science/art unit (optical illusions, etc...). We did chemistry, astronomy, and weather recently. So, any ideas? I don't mind spending a little $, but I don't have time to make my own unit study. I need to be told what to do. :001_smile: Thanks in advance!
  13. My daughter has been doing great with Foerster until this week. There is probably a simple explanation, but I don't have it. :) Algebra was too many years ago. Here's the problem: (the 2's are exponents) (x+3)2 -(x+5)2 = [(x+3)+(x+5)][(x+3)-(x+5)] = (2x+8)(-2) = -4(x+4) My dd put -4x-16 instead of -4(x+4) I can see that they are basically the same answer, but why is the answer in this form? Thanks in advance for any help. I'm wishing I got the dvd's now :001_huh:
  14. Amber - I do MM, MUS, Right Start, and LOF! Of Course, I don't do each of these every day. But, I love the variety. LOF takes hardly any time. Adding LOF elementary books to any program would be super easy.
