  1. Thanks for all the replies. The game plan will be using Sonlight's Core G with my sixth grader while my younger two will work out of just the SOTW books and AGs. I will be getting some of the books listed from the Core B/C to go along with it.
  2. We read The Pilgrim's Progess last year and enjoyed the book. Isn't the other have pictures unlike the first?
  3. are there any Sonlight users on the board? It would be just the history and possibly their spelling recomendations I would use for next year. Where I live no one uses Sonlight so I don't have anyone to talk with on the materials.
  4. So another quick look if to go with Sonlight. I would be looking at Core B/C for my younger two and Core G for my oldest. I would be using Sonlight just for history. Or I can use just Core G and use the SOTW 1 and 2 AGs for the younger two. Unfortally there is no one near me who uses these curriculums and hubby is pretty much what ever you want hun is fine with me. We really don't have much of a stopping or starting period with our schooling. We just go thru our materials taking breaks when needed.
  5. As I am browsing thru books for reading for next year I came across Sonlight's site and it showed them doing SOTW 1 and 2 for their Core G which is around 7th grade. Got me to wondering, can I do SOTW 1 for the first half of the year and SOTW the second half of the year? I will have a first, second and sixth grader.
  6. I am currently just using the ACE Language Arts for my 5th ongoing 6th grader. I can't say I love them but they are not bad either. They are writting to the student and I don't like the idea of not having a TM. I like TMs. She's had to repeat a few paces but seems to be doing better now.
  7. Needed to order some materials and wouldn't send to a home so I came up with a name and it became our school's name. Plus I read that some states ask for a name of your 'school'. I have yet to go to one of those states but I have a name in event that we move to one of those states.
  8. I like that idea. We are not large yet but soon will be with more preschoolers underfoot.
  9. It wouldn't be ethical to show pictures of his death. We don't need to see the pictures. The job is done, let those who need to morn (his peoples) and let those who need the closure have it. We don't need to dwell on this and show pics.
  10. My children have no choice but to know about it since we are a military family. I just don't go into many details unless I have too. My oldest was one when 9/11 happened but that event is was caused us to move closer to her daddy to who I finally married. They all know that daddy went to Iraq to help the good guys get the bad guys with oldest know a bit more detail. We know about all Asian disasters since we live in an Asian country.
  11. do they live close by so she can still visit some of them? my younger ones wished they were in school so they can see their friends and play (at school). I tell them school is for learning and not hanging out and once that bell rings they can go off to see their friends at the park, and other after school activies that we are involved in. happy homeschooling
  12. I think I will show it to my daughter to prove that a blogs can be fun to do. I like the idea of having them type their notes on the computer.
  13. I am ending my fifth year homeschooling but if you are going to include afterschooling than it is six years. My oldest went to half day Kinder and I was worried she'd be behind when we moved to the next state. It was known to be advance while the current state was known to be relaxed in education. Then two months into first we just pulled oldest out and offically began homeschooling because we are military and move every few years and we tend to travel during school year and never on the traditional days off of a school rather it be private, public or DoD (Department of Defense).
  14. I have gone thru this with my seven year old quite a few times. I just want to melt away or just leave. Honestly if you came to me and said that I would feel even more horrible of a mom because someone else pointed out my child's negative behavior. It's not like I don't know he's being less than a wonderfuly child at that moment, I don't need someone else to point it out even if you are trying to be helpful. I have actually been there done that with two moms in my community act similar to you and it upsetted me. I didn't tell them I was less than pleased with her comments I just limit my time with them.
  15. if I decided to go with Rod and Staff could I get by with just the TMs?
  16. My daughter did great with First Language Lessons Volumes 4 and I moved onto ACE English. She tested midway thru their 4th year so that is where we started. All has been well until we hitted 1055 which is going into the 2/3s into the 5th grade. She seems to have forgotten all about diagramming and her grammer. She enjoyed diagramming and after volume 4 I tried LLTLA Orange (didn't work our for us) and then onto ACE. She is to keep repeating the PACEs until she gets it. I retype the sentences that she gets wrong and I we repeat the rules n stuff and again she gets them all wrong. She's considered a 5th grader but this part she is just not getting. I am debating of redoing volume 4 over the summer with her or just getting the teacher manual of rod and staff 4th or 5th or maybe both? I really thought she got it but now not so sure. any ideas on getting her to remember the material. ideas of summer work to prepare her for 6th and not have to repeat 5th english which I am not opposed to. TIA
  17. What country is your family moving to? Where we are my children would have to be on a bus a hour to and from school and that isn't going to happen so they are home. We were going to send them to school but once we arrived at our duty station we decided to continue homeschooling
  18. that is a great idea. I know many who couldn't sleep last nigh due to the aftershocks and last nights noises seemed louder than usual.
  19. I am just a big animal lover and I don't believe in putting a dog down unless absolutely nessicary. 99% of the time humans are overboard on this. Some many times a dog bites due to the human being the aggressive one. Dog goes into attack mode due to the aggressive human. I know for a fact because my dog is LOVEABLE but thanks to my neighbor always bothering her she now don't like no one coming near the fence. She will nip and growl at you. She is now in the county away from 'stuip' humans. My other dog is also lovable but did nip at the vet. Heck I would too if someone stuck a thermometer up my butt. They said they knew here and didn't muzzle her. I didn't feel concerned but she quickly turned around and nipped at the tech and the tech threaten to put her down and I told her to leave the room and to stay away from my dog. I reported her and learned she was relieved from duty there. Apperenlty she doesn't like dogs and is always negative with them. Now there are some that are just way to aggressive with anyone and there is no choice but to put down. From the org. post your dog got loose, neighbor shooed your dog away. Well how did she/he do that? Yelling screaming throwing something at the dog? Those will sometimes set off a dog. well I hope you look for another way out instead of killing the dog.
  20. count me in too. We are planning our sixth year in the fall and hubby's been in over ten years now. This site has been my longest HS group.
