  1. I would have put the pilot who got buried then inexplicably came back into the cute category, but I'm getting older and out of touch.
  2. I just hated that he died knowing that he had failed in the most important task of his life, that he had failed his family so completely.
  3. Okay, well, he'd better come back as a super-turbo-charged Voldemort-like villain and then HIS death had better be epic. No redemption arc for the guy who killed Han Solo. Ugh, I feel so cheated. I thought his story would end happily by the end of the 3rd movie. But there's no happy ending once you've killed Dad and if they try to bring him back to the light side, it's going to be hollow. Ugh again. If they'd even had Han die accidentally while trying to save his kid's life, that would be preferable to an out-and-out murder.
  4. * * * * * * * * * * * ** I haven't been this bothered by a character death since reading the end of Half-Blood Prince. Ugh! I had been sitting there for an hour plus thinking "Wow, JJ Abrams really did it. He has pulled off this perfect Star Wars movie." And then whiny emo guy who looks like Benedict Cumberbatch and Alan Rickman had an ugly baby together KILLS Han Solo. Are you kidding me? To make it worse, he then dies 30 minutes later, so his whole "I have to kill my father so I can resolve this inner conflict and go completely dark side" was for nothing, story-wise. Han Solo's death should have been an epic, going-out-in-a-blaze-of-glory event that left the audience happy for him.
  5. Ben-Hur (religious content). I saw it when I was 7 and have loved it ever since.
  6. Piano would be a great idea. I'm hesitant to suggest a string instrument because there's a lot of work at the beginning to produce a decent sound, and that can be really frustrating for gifted kids.
  7. Warning! This series is not complete yet, and apparently the latest book ends with a big cliffhanger. My sensitive kid went into an emotional tailspin after finishing the most recent one. If your dd is bothered by such things, you might want to hold off until the series is complete.
  8. Count me in as another one for whom Aleve was life-changing.
  9. Taylor Swift songs evoke nostalgia for me for some reason.
  10. Something is wrong with my ears. I feel like I'm having ear pressure all the time, like when you're driving in the mountains and have to yawn to make them pop. Also, I am having unbelievable over-sensitivity to sounds, especially voices. On the flip side, I find myself having to ask people to repeat things a lot if they speak softly or in a low tone. Do I see an ENT for this? An audiologist? What do these symptoms indicate?
  11. One acquaintance at church with whom I'm friendly, both my girls' piano teachers, and my business partner's husband.
  12. At least my kids' supply lists had asterisks designating which items would go into the community pile and which should be labeled with the student's name for individual use.
  13. What fairy tale or children's book would you turn into a Disney cartoon or musical if you could? (Bonus points if it's something in public domain.)
  14. So basically this kid's college essay is going to be "I discovered a planet. The End."
