  1. It's definitely not my love language, lol! This is what people do around here. The pressure is immense.
  2. I think I'd have fewer teacher gifts to buy if my kids were in school! Between tutorial, music, dance, and Sunday School, I'm responsible for seventeen teacher gifts this Christmas. What can I give for less than $10 each that doesn't make me look like a total cheapskate? It's not as though the recipients realize how many gifts we're handing out.
  3. I had a parent do this to me. I had invited one of dd's friends to attend an expensive performance with us. The mom texted me 3 hours prior to leaving to tell me that her daughter would not be permitted to go because she was being punished for something. Still makes me mad to think about it!
  4. Yes. My oldest with SPD was like this for the first several teeth. She's finally used to it, thankfully. Plus her younger sister has started losing teeth with much less drama.
  5. Hey Andrew is practically self-teaching, and moves at a snail's pace with lots and lots of practice.
  6. Following. The rigidity of the math, science, and Latin progressions have been my #1 turn-off for CC. If students are able to do their own thing on the side without it being overly burdensome, I might take a second look for the future.
  7. m Another of my dd9's recent favorites, also nice thick books. If you do a search on the General Board for topics started by me, there is a great thread of suggestions people gave me for my dd9.
  8. My dd9, who loved The Hobbit and is very sensitive, is reading them now and loves them.
  9. Pigheadedness, obsessiveness, and a daily weigh-in (right after going to the bathroom in the morning, before eating or drinking anything).
  10. I was you in June. I lost nearly 30 pounds doing whole-30 "lite," eating almost exclusively from the "Well-Fed" cookbooks. Cycles are better than they were, and it doesn't hurt to take the stairs anymore. I have another 35-40 pounds left to lose.
  11. Would one of the girls' prep schools in your city be willing to work with you in designing a specialized program for your dd? It seems like at least one of them would jump at the chance to get a kid like yours, for bragging rights if nothing else.
  12. It wouldn't hurt to check around and see if there are any quality children's choir programs in your area. That's a good way to get some early training.
  13. Team Umizoomi, Peppa Pig, Little Einsteins, Bubble Guppies. Backyardigans is my favorite.
  14. I've heard guys make remarks about a woman's elbows, but they were using elbows as a euphemism, much like we say b00ks around here. I'm a conservative Christian, but I am really re-examining the modesty mindset as my kids get older. I want my kids to be able to go to a beach without judging everyone they see or thinking they have to look at their feet to avoid seeing an attractive body.
  15. I am thinking of having dd9 try the EXPLORE this year, depending on how she does with the samples. Is there any way to find a school that offers it without calling every middle school around?
