  1. I miss all the little kid shows. My kids have moved on to superheroes now, so no more Backyardigans, Cat in the Hat, Bubble Guppies, etc. Hate Calliou though. I had to be desperate to allow that one on.
  2. I just had to leave a local FB group over the posts defending Josh Duggar. Ugh.
  3. Hallmark took "When Calls the Heart," a nice little book series, and ripped out most of the plot, leaving only a shell, then refilled it with plot devices and characters ripped off from Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. My 9yo loves it, though. It's appointment tv for her.
  4. In reply to the bolded: if your oldest is going into high school, you have homeschooled for nine years. You pass the "handling homeschooling" test. New season of life. Embrace it. Own it.
  5. If you can help me out by liking my business page on FB, send me a PM. It's NOT an MLM or direct sales, promise.

  6. Totally unacceptable restaurant. Worse even than *gasp* Hard Rock Cafe!
  7. Steve Maxwell said something similar, that his kids don't read, they write.
  8. I attend a liturgical church that follows the 3-year lectionary. This year, Mother's Day will be the 6th Sunday of Easter. Whatever Scriptures are in the lectionary for that day will be the focus of the service. Mothers will probably get a special mention in the prayers, but that's it.
  9. dd9 started doing this when she was 5. She would be telling me something, and start her sentence with "I was like...." I would then stop her and say "Did you say it or did you think it?" She might then answer, "I said it." Me: Then try again and say "I said...." She broke the habit pretty quickly, though since then she has asked me what the big deal is, why it matters so much. I told her that it's a bad habit that gets so ingrained in your way of speaking that you don't even realize it's happening. And someday she might be a doctor or teacher or lawyer or even a politician, and the quickest way to sound unprofessional is to say "I'm like" or "I was like." It's an uphill battle because most of the adults in my kids' lives use it regularly.
  10. But he's a public school teacher. That's where he would have received training.
  11. I don't free-range because I wasn't raised that way. I hear others from my generation talking nostalgically about the freedoms they had as a kid, and I can't relate. The results are twofold: I have no frame of reference from my own childhood of what freedoms are appropriate, and I think my decision-making skills are slightly hampered from more limited life experience so that I don't trust my own judgment.
  12. I had a horrid stomach bug on Friday morning a few weeks ago. No one else got it. My kids went to school as usual on Monday.
  13. So sorry! My dd just had to start with a new teacher for a similar reason. I hope you find another great fit soon!
